This, IMO shows a perfect balance between fruity things and tertiary things at age 19. It's really nice right now.
Dried porcini mushroom, dust, tomato leaf, old leather, barnyard (strange aromas for Brunello!), smoke and ash on the nose. Smells powdery, if that makes sense. The palate adds smoked meat, red cherries, red strawberries and keeps the leather and mushrooms from the nose, but loses the rest. It tastes younger than it smells. Nice 45 second long finish as well.
Medium + body with medium acid and medium tannin. The structure shows its age a bit; but the flavors of this are really nice. I believe this is fully developed, and at peak. Drink now.

Subsequent notes on this wine from 8 years ago. Dark garnet in color with clearing & slight bricking at the edges. Full, forward & attractive nose of mature, ripe fruits aromas of cherries, blueberries & plums with overtones of earthy/dusty & floral notes, tobacco, mushrooms, leather, tar, cocoa, minerals, herbs & a hint of cedar in the background. Medium-full bodied with a good concentration of well balanced & smooth textured, mature, ripe fruit flavors of cherries, blueberries & cranberries with mushrooms, minerals, herbs & some oak/vanilla. Lingering finish. Drinks quite well at present but at 19 years of age, it is very close to or at its peak of development, so drink up soon. Ullage was mid-neck; cork was clean & intact.

Medium body, this tasted ready and mature but still showing some fruit. Just a light rasp of tannin on the tip of the tongue, Sangiovese tang on the finish, a very enjoyable bottle and too easy to drink. 13.5%

Color: garnet with slight bricking Nose: plum, raisin, anise, herbs Taste: cola cherry, anise, oregano This is singing right now with a perfect balance of fruit and secondary flavors. Cherry cola and plum upfront followed by raisin and anise with oregano and basil. Finish lingers with soft tannins. In a great place right now.

Slow oxed for two hours. Aromas of plums and tobacco come out of the glass. The palate has moved into a good place with flavors of plums, grilled meats, and leather. This has rounded quality, is medium bodied, and fully mature with the tannins largely resolved. This is quite pleasurable now and probably will hold for the next five years.

Decanted an hour. This is still very dark and a bit primary. The nose is blackberries and leather and quite attrractive. The palate on the other hand feels a bit monolithic and chunky lacking integration or class. The fruit has held up well but it’s not integrated with the oak and acid well and it doesn’t feel like this one is going to get better with age.

This wine started the night poorly, thin, light and a bit sour. After a good 60-90 minutes throughout dinner it started to open and transformed into a true brunello, rich and complex with a long finish. Give it some time to decant, this wine will not disappoint.

Opened for CT15. Congrats to Eric and the team for all the success and thanks for all you've done for me and the community. This wine still has some good dark fruit, old world minerality, and a decent and pleasurable bite. Quite dry. Paired with leftover sweet and sour chicken from local chinese shack, plus Suite: Judy Blue Eyes, while trying to unwind from a bit of a tough day. But - is it really that bad? No, no it's not. Deep dark garnet in color with ever-so-slight clearing at the edges. Initially reticent nose which opened up & developed with decanting & airing into a forward, attractive & fragrant nose of still developing, ripe dark fruits aromas of cherries, blackberries, fig & plums with earthy overtones, dusty, floral notes of roses & violets, tobacco, mushrooms, a hint of tar, cocoa, minerals and dried herbs. Full bodied with very good concentration of smooth textured, well balanced, still developing, complex, ripe dark fruit flavors of sweet cherries, blackberries & plums with earthiness, mushrooms, cola, minerals, herbs & some toasty oak. 2 years since the last bottle. Improved again. Color is clear brick red with orange/light brown edge. Server a bit chilled. As temperatur increases a bit and air worked it's magic; the wine opened and was very nice. It seems to me that the 2004 Brunello vintage is an elegant, refined, delicate vintage. Nice balance. Good balance. Will wait another 2-3 years for last bottle.

Beautiful ginger, amber to brownish red color in center, golden reflections, wide orange rim. Classical style, super savory and masculine palate. Toasted coffee grain and peanuts nose, with a strong spiced aroma of tomato and parmesan. There is also leather and roses. After breathing became fruitful, with blueberry and blackberry along with cinnamon, roses and a menthol inner sense. Gorgeous. Salivating and savory on mouth. Soft touch of a medium body full of spices, coffee, caramel and cassis. Present and round tanins with a refreshing feel and a very long finish where coffee and dark chocolate take turns. Loved it.

This was a great vintage that we have enjoyed for the last 3-4 years. We had our last bottle about 3 weeks ago and we have waited too long. The initial bright strawberry and cherry with strong acids in the mid palate has become muddled. It still has the resemblance of its former performance, but it has lost a good pat of the early fruit and and the acid almost disappeared. If you have any of this vintage left, i recommend to drink it ASAP.

Part of a mini Brunello tasting. Came out as a tied second. The nose was dusty and leathery, which also came through on the palate. Fruit a bit in the background, but the tertiary notes sooo nice. Autumn forest resemblance. Medium long finish. Extremely high QPR. Accompanied a Bistecca alla Fiorentina nicely.

Served with beef and vegetable stew. Decanted 1 hour Colour: ruby red, clear, little sediment Nose: sweet black fruits, hint of menthol, bit of bacon fat Taste: tannins are present but tamed, med finish. More black cherries coming through. A bit flat on the backend but good finish.
This wine for me is in the mid range of quality for Brunellos from this vintage. Good wine but not mind blowing.

Beautifully complex wine with elegance and power. Nose shows fig, new leather, hints of sweet anise, cola, and a faint whisper of tar and mint. The palate echos this with sweet fig, leather, decaying leaves, hints of anise, dark fruit liquor and mint (the mint really shows on the finish). After two hours the palate starts to shine. After two and a half it's intense: booming even. Medium/medium-full weight. Bright, fruity acidic structure. This has years of life left.

Seemed like much of the fruit had left the bottle. Still some typical Brunello notes present, though. All in all OK, considering the price (20 - 25$). But drink it soon. Had it with cheese which was OK, but previously killed one bottle off with a sauce beárnaise - not recommendable.

Perfect with dinner at the finest Italian restaurant around. Decanted two hours before dinner. The nose on opening was huge--dried fruit and herbs. A little light for the "big brunello" drinker, but very elegant. Coffee, chocolate and some mineral, too. Excellent bottle, still holding its own.

I loved this wine, from 375ml. Actually better on its own than with pizza. Notes of leather, spicy oak (not obtrusive, just a young wine) and dark red fruits are round and polished on the palate. Not a tannic wine, but it did seem to be more austere with aeration. I'd love to find some of this around $40/btl.

Very traditional, no nonsense Brunello. Not a barrique-fueled powerhouse. A little reserved on the nose, but with the enticing flavors of sangiovese on the palate. Sour cherries, herbs and a whiff of smoke. Quite elegant structure, with remarkably smooth tannins. Should be interesting to follow.

Medium-garnet colour. Aromas of morello cherry syrup/liqueur, alcohol, pine tar/resin, crushed blackcurrants and blackberries. Medium-full bodied, with alcohol, cherry, kirsch, plum liqueur. Moderate finish, ~25s, with alcoholic warmth on the finish of kirsch and rosemary oil.
With air, the wine turns very sour with burnt rubber and machine oil notes to it. I'm not sure what's with this wine, but it's difficult to get over these notes and it's significantly different than the 2001. Very disappointing. 82 points. Drink now.

Binny's Italian Night (Binny's South Loop - Chicago, IL): My WOTN. Funny how CT scores were not at all in line with how I felt - though I did have this near the end of the tasting - I may have been more "forgiving" then. Delicious ripe red fruit. Slightly New World in styling. Really accessible but had nice depth and dimension as well. Excellent mouth feel and weight in general. Bravo.

Opened two bottles and decanted both for 4 hours. No bottle variation here, both were very strange indeed. Perhaps a phase this wine is going through, but the nose was overwhelmingly dominated by tar/creosote. Some other flavours were lurking underneath, but hardly discernable with the asphalt on top. Very over-rated in my opinion.

Montalcino trip / Italian offline 2009; 5/14/2009-5/16/2009 (Montalcino): Ruby colour with some amber at the rim. Aromas of burned rubber are covering up the cherry and meat notes underneath. Not pleasant. On the palate the wine seems OK with a medium-full body with refined tannins and fresh acidity. Initially the bottle seemed flawed. A day later I had the Montosoli, it showed the same burned rubber component, though less intimidating. It might blow of after a while (this bottle was open for +/- 6 hours). Disappointing :-((

Stewed cherries, roasted oak, smokey grilled meat on the nose. Tobacco, black peppers, dark cherries, eucalyptus notes. Very tight still needs time.

Disappointing. Had a certain elegance, but this wine was more like Rosso in it's simplicity.

Good but not great. Doesn't have the extra gear that the top Brunellos have.

Still a lot of tannines. Opens up after some time after decantation. Should be kept a few more years before drinking.

Was surprised how light the color was. Was not your typical brunello. A bit disappointing immediately after opening, but did improve somewhat over time. Do agree that this was somewhat barolo like.

Very Nice and smooth wine; yes, there's tar and burned rubber but it is a very aristocratic and delicate wine regardless

Initially tight, aggressive swirling brings out deep rooted, savory aromas of grilled herbs, hot soil, anise and red berry fruit. Medium bodied on the palate and well structured with fine tannins.

82 points. Drink now.

Nice Brunello but probably on the ragged edge of drinking window. Earth, floral notes and a touch of smoke dominate the red cherry fruit. Nice acidty and good body. Should improve

From 375ml. Dry and oaky at first, opening up to show nice dried cherry fruit and classic brunello structure after an hour or so. A little light and restrained so not quite 90, but a nice wine.
