Arcadian Tasting (Shari's, Mpls, MN): Dark red color. PNP, drank a small glass over 20 minutes. Nice, with subtle earth on the nose, dark red fruits, savory hints. The palate is also quite nice, balanced, lean and clean, medium body, dark red fruits, savory, subtle white pepper, medium finish.

Porch Pounders (Jim's house): Slow o'd for about 3 hours. This took 15-30 minutes in glass to come around. Initially, painfully dry. Then, tons of character emerges. This is all over the map, and always changing. Fruit runs the whole gamut of red/blue/purple/black. Olive, smoke, meat and a touch of vanilla on the palate. Really enjoyable and amazing for the price.

White pepper, black olives, tar, spice and red currants. Better on day and a complex wine. This is very much the style of Syrah I enjoy and is quite balanced. No heat and at the perfect drinking window.

Deep color. Smoky with hints of raisin on the nose. Fairly subtle dark fruits, not as fruit forward as I would have expected based on the nose. Overall a solid wine, nothing spectacular but very easy to drink.

A big syrah, but it avoids the jamminess that often accompanies those from the region. Still looks young and has some primary fruit, but secondary flavors are present as well. Medium-long finish.

Holiday 2012 Wines; 12/23/2012-12/31/2012 (Santa Fe, NM): A very nice Californian syrah. Rich, dark fruit on the nose with a meaty edge to it. The palate had a rustic character at first with deeper meat and pepper tones at first. With some time, the rusticity seemed to fade with juicy dark fruit taking its place. I don't have much experience with Arcadian, but this is a great value.

Nice leathery overtones and a deep color. Good tannins and a dark berry flavor which was sufficiently complex to be enjoyed and have it linger in the mouth. A nice finish topped it off.

Nice medium ruby color. Noticable brett on the nose (not necessarily a bad thing for me), that did seem to fade just a bit by the 2nd night, along dark red fruit, leather and earth. Lots of spice on the palate. Good acidity.medium plus finish.

I've been veering away from Central Coast syrah as of late but this was a nice surprise. Ripe berries and pepper on the nose. Balanced on the palate but still showing firm structure with flavors of pure red and black berries and wet earth. Medium finish. All the components meld together nicely to make a warm climate syrah with some character.

Very nice syrah, beautiful bouquet with lots of dark berry aromas and a hint of spice and earth. Lots of dark berry fruit on the palate also, but is lacking the complexity of other flavors I expected from the bouquet. Medium finish. A very nice bottle for the price

Blind Tasting Burger Reds (Our House): Single blind. Black fruit and black olive on the nose, a touch of smoke and brett. Medium bodied with medium+ acidity. Tart plum, tart blackberry and black pepper. Rustic and old world in style. Quite nice. (my 2nd, group's 1st)

The nose is about average, but it is complex. The taste is full-bodied and complex. There is a small green steak in this, along with blue fronts. Strong integrated tannins deliver the long finish. This is more old world than new. Day 3 was still quite good, but had lost some intensity (did not drink on day 2).

A bit of cigar box on the nose. Very ripe concentrated fruit on the palate. Some leather, dark fruit, licorice and spice. Full bodied. Slightly too extracted for my taste, but I still enjoyed it nonetheless. Overall a nice wine. And for the price, a great Cali-Syrah.

Awesome. Great nose which invites the drinker to enjoy the wine. Leather and fig on the nose. Nice color and exploded in the mouth with light tannins, some spice, great berry and leather flavors. Definitely not a fruit bomb, but good balance throughout. Easy finish. Shared this with a new aquaintance who remarked it was better than many $100 a bottle wines he had sampled. Great price point.

Earthy and funky on the nose, but some fruit shows up after time. Not usually one to complain about funky flavors, but this one actually could have used a little more fruit, or more common syrah savories. Still delicious, though, and nice with food.

AVTG does Syrah blind (Breggo Cellars): Tasted blind. Super aromatic, blue and black fruit. Jammy, thick and rich, with sweet, generous blackberry and raspberry notes. Perhaps a touch of brett and VA, but did not detract from the overall experience. I really liked this. My #2, Group #4 WOTN.

Darn nice wine made even more impressive by the price. Rich but lively so it's not heavy at all with smoke, blackberry, earth and black pepper. There seems to be just a hint of brett (I could be wrong but myself and winemaker friend thought there was a bit) which added to the complexity without overwhelming. Good acidity and a nice medium length finish. Wish I bought more of this.

My first Arcadian and I was looking forward to what was billed as a restrained old-world style CA producer. Delivery... This wine has a lot of non-fruit elements, which is essentially what I look for in Syrah, in this case rubber, some animal, etc. It also has some nice raspberry flavors. But its a touch hot and a bit too ripe. When I finished a glass and started in on a second I could feel some alcohol so I checked the bottle and sure enough, 14.5 listed. Reading the back of the bottle does show that this is a warm site, so perhaps I'd like another bottling better. This isn't bad and I'll see if time serves it out well.

Decanted for about three hours at cellar temp. Nice leathery, smoky, mineral laden nose with some floral notes as well. Black and red brambly fruit with some apparent espresso, oak and cedar notes.
