Dark garnet, some bricking. Black cherry bouquet. Much fuller bodied than my first bottle of these, some six years ago. This is showing like a Bordeaux with dark cherry, cassis and some fine tannins. Long final and nice balance.
Great and very pleasant surprise after my first bottle was quite underwhelming. Still many years to go by the look of things.

Very nice nose or ripe peperonis, mine de crayon, black fruit... There is absolutely no greeness as the cabernet franc tannin are fully ripe but still have the cold black fruit freshness. Already at peak after 12 years, and will stay at peak for a couple of more years!

This was dark garnet colored with medium full body and ripe black berry and black cherry fruits accented by smoke, tar and anise with smooth soft tannins on the finish.
This label can be so great for certain vintages, but I opened my last 2006 yesterday and it was funky. The other bottles I opened with the last one being about 5 years ago were enjoyable. Not sure if the wine is going through a transition or if it is just done. Had a weird nose (the bad raisin smell if that makes any sense). The color was there and it still had legs, but the fruit was pretty much gone or it was completely suppressed during a transition stage. It is also possible that I got a bad bottle.

Clean ruby appearance with garnet hues, medium nose of dark berries, tobacco, graphite, on the palate, good acidity, medium body, tannins are showing some signs of separation, this is an outstanding example of Bordeaux made out of France, paired well with ribeye and grilled bell peppers, happy Father's Day to me!.
I would recommend to start drinking this, imho I do not foresee an improvement with time, it is at peak

This is at a perfect place right now. Loads of ripe fruit, with acidity and tannin supporting it. Food-friendly stuff, but also good on its own. Taste profile is meium+ bodied, red and dark berries, sweet licorice, plum.

This wine should not be as good as it is! From the getgo the nose oozes with flamboyant red roses, pencilshavings, ripe blackberry, soy, and unlit cigar aromatics. Palate is meaty, ripe and complex with excellent lenght and balance, finishing in perfectly balanced tannins refusing to let go. I have not tasted the mothership Sassicaia in this vintage, but i am now intent on changing that as soon as possible

Dark core with bright ruby rim; mint, cassis, blackberry, meaty, sandy, floral, deep and rich, a hint of vinegar on top but not interfering, some dill; cherry, smooth tannin, rich, cigar, Bordeaux-like funk; youthful and this bottle could have been better with a couple more years.

Bright ruby with clear edges. Clean intense nose of cigar smoke, ripe blackberry, soy and sandalwood. The palate is razor sharp and bone dry with bright acidity delivering ripe fruit, soy, leather, as well as some herbaceus taste like parsley and green bell pepper. This has shed some babyfat since the last time and is now showing its impressive structure in combination with its balanced ripe fruit, all in good measures. The finish tapers off with soy, leather and smoke ending in grippy and dry tannins. More hard around the edges than the last showing and more vegetal notes, but still beautiful. 55+11+18+8
Update: This improved on day two and shows more balance. The rough edges are smoothened out. Still shows upside potential and im stunned that this second label shows so much quality. Bolgheri 2006 is impressive in quality, purity and seductiveness, i can only imagine how good the Sassicaia must be with some more bottle age!! Upgraded to 93 points on day two.

I'm going to struggle to improve on the last TN which in my opinion has hit the nail on the head. I poped and poured this but it took an hour to open up. Nose is dry opulent dark fruit combined with a sweet liqourice perfume. Pallete is creamy and smooth, tannins have integrated very well. Very enjoyable.

lovely aromatics of ripe black fruits, im picking up creme de cassis, ripe blackberry and some intense blueberry. Also notes of coffee, a hint of dark bitter chocolate, and some impression of toasty oak and vanilla. The palate is mouthcoatingingly intense, layers of ripe black and blue fruit delivered with laser sharp precision. Very primary in its expression. The tannins are finely knitted and already well integrated, only a hint of drying towards the finish. The oak is unobtrusive, and it containes enough acidity to master the intense fruit. Finely balanced all the elements are beuatifully interwoven, but it is decisively primary and my guess is this will continue to evolve over atleast the next 6-8 years. Lovers of secondary notes and bottle development should leave this for half a decade or more

Decanted 1 hour. Dark crimson. Somewhat reluctant nose showing plum and some anise. Velvety palate, a bit thin in the middle for my tastes but showed nice balance. Dusty tannins and a moderate final. Hope the others show a little more mid-palate when I get to them over the next few years.

very typical, mid-tier red blend that didn't speak much to where it came from. black and red fruits, a little minerality, but mostly pedestrian while still enjoyable. it didn't do a whole lot for me, although other people seemed to like it. not much typicity other than being a good, quaffable red blend. if scoring, 87-89.

Had this alongside Ornellaia's second wine of the same vintage, 'Serre Nuove' and although the SN was the clear winner (94 Points), this second wine of Sassacaia was pretty great as well - Dark, full bodied with a nose of blackfruit, plum, cedar, cigar box and vanilla, gorgeous structure, balance and complexity, sweet, yet somewhat dusty on the palate with excellent length, awesome (91 Points).

Sassicaia and Ornellaia Masterclass at Decanter Fine Wine Encounter (Landmark Hotel, London): Deep red colour with hints of brick at the edge. Sweetish nose with ripe berries including blackcurrants and red berries, a touch of raspberry liqueur, some flowery notes, eucalyptus and mint, some chocolate and coffee, a tiny hint of barnyard aromas. More than medium bodied on the palate, black and red currants, other red berries, medium(+) tannins and tannins of a reasonably softened type. Young but accessible. Could gain from further cellaring. 88-89 p Slightly more developed than the 2006 Le Serre Nuove. Just as was the case for the 2009s, Guidalberto shows mer red berries and lighter-coloured fruit notes in the nose than Le Serre Nuove does.

Brilliant wine. Dark garnet red color, and nose of cherry and brambly berry with spice, earth, and dried herbs. Velvety and silky texture at the same time is a nod to the wine's balance between its fruit and its acidity. Dark cherry, earth, and a hint of a dried fruit component (fig paste or raisins) not unlike a flavor I often find in Amarone or Ripassos. Finishes strong, has structure to last for many more years, but it is drinking absolutely spectacularly already.

Alcohol :: 13.5% Dark ruby red, healthy and vibrant. Popped and Poured and this is already expressive with jammy blueberry, blackcurrant essence, graphite, smoke and a bit of wood spice and earth. Fresh and vibrant, tightly coiled with some chewy, powdery tannin lends good grip to the palate, firmly structured. New wood, mineral infused medium length finish. A little bit of alcohol heat at the back that distract a little bit but overall this is a pretty good wine. No rush to drink this.

Vertical tasting. Nose notes of cherry, plums, currants, with burn oak, coffee, earth. Need half a hour to open up. Ripe blackcurrants on the palate, though not as prominent as 2005, oaky round flavoured fresh fruits, with acid and tannin as foreground, minerals, pencil leads. Store away for 5 years and try again.

Deep ruby, fruit-driven pronounced (for reds) nose of red currants framed in wood, spice and some green pepper. Dry, definitely high acidity, high tannins all wrapped in a velvety attack. Full bodied fruit driven (black and red currants), spice, cocoa. Some vegetal tones of oak and green bell pepper. Well structured, long somewhat bitter finish. Err on the 90 points because of the satisfying finish, else 87-89. Definitely needs food, it went well with grilled rib eye and top loin. Steak dinner wine. Value/money = 8, will buy again.

Opened for several hours but not decanted. A nice dense purple with a little bit of a sheen to it. Aromas of anise, currants, plums, tobacco- brooding and contemplative. Explosive on the palate- dark berries, English tea, minerals, mint, hints of coffee bean, touches of vanilla- all delivered with juicy acidity, silky feel, and medium body. Fine tannins that finish firm with long flavors of fruit and mineral. Outstanding now, and still fairly tightly wound overall.

A really good super tuscan, even better the second night thus would definitely improve with a formal decant. Enjoyed over two nights with Kim, pasta bolognese and grilling, and stood up very well to both. Very dark, pleasant soft fruity nose with notes of oak, blueberry and tobacco, silky and softer and more elegant / complex then expected. Very well balanced and approaching a great drinking window. Primary flavors an initial burst of earthy must and oak with subsequent development of dark berry, mocha and grilled meat smoke. Bottle obtained in trade with BillyT / TexasWineGeek. highly recommend this, at around $40 / bottle a reasonable but not a great QPR. Highly recommend this but would definitely decant.

Decanted for 1h. Wonderful aroma's of dark fruit (also some plum) and licorice. Initialy some oak that blew away. The nose expresses such crystal pure fruit that it's a pleasure to keep smelling. The mouth showed a compact character of ripe fruit in a good tannic structure. Good finish. This little brother of Sassicaia is a huge QPR deal and already a great pleasure with a nice aging potential. Planning to give it +4 years.

Dark purple, opaque, ring is very clear. Nose is aromatic, dark fruits, some cigar box, a bit of spice. The taste is a bit more Sangiovese than I expected, but quite good. It's not a heavy wine despite the Cab and Merlot components. It went well with Italian red sauce and meatballs. I would have liked more weight, but the flavors were intense and lasting. Good balance, nice acidity to go with the food. The tannins were a bit hard at first, and after half an hour decanted they softened a bit, this wine could use a few years of aging and will improve I think.

this is really good, smooth, well balanced- it seemed to evolve in the glass, giving off different aromas over time. Noticed the tannins after being open for an hour, I would guess this will age quite nicely, definately one of the best Italian's I've had. 45% cabernet, 45% merlot, 10% Sangiovese. This is the second label toTenuta San Guido's Sassicaia, one of the best wines in the world. This wine was made to be drinkable now as opposed to waiting 15 or 20 years.

I was making bone-in pork chops tonight, and no wine works better for me with this dish than a nice Tuscan wine. And this did not disappoint. I cannot even say it often enough...this is world class wine. From a terrific vintage from a terrific producer, this is so deep, so layered, so complex, so fresh, so interesting and age-worthy, it's just plain silly. It shows blackberry, blackcurrant, dried herbs, leather, cigar box, earth, fig paste, and a touch of funk. Finish is awesome and maybe the most amazing part of this wine is the superb acidity that frames the perfectly ripe fruit. This is just a show stopper. A wine that I cannot ever have enough of. 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, 45% Merlot, 10% Sangiovese. Aged for 12 months in American and French oak. 13.5% alc.

Plush, forward and primary with blackberry, currant, dried plum and black tea flavors that are rich, dark and persistent. Seductive and crowd-pleasing - approachable for its fruit but with the structure and big tannins for the 'big red wine' crowd to appreciate.

2006 Tenuta San Guido Guidalberto Toscana IGT (Italy, Tuscany, Toscana IGT) 13.5%. Serve straight from a 375ml. Whoo....very nice nose. Chocolate, liquorice, blueberries with elegant sweet undertone. Rich and well balanced palate full of sweet dark fruits with a good long finish. Fresh and young but the light tannins are not in the way. Very delicious. Better than the 2003 and 2004 yesterday, probably one of the best Guidalberto I have had. Not surprising the halve bottle did not last long and had to dipped into the box for another. Unfortunately, prices are now at 20% higher than previous vintages.

I have to agree with the previous note, this is an excellent bottle of Italian. The drinking window says 2011, but it is really drinking well right now. Smooth, well balanced. I am glad that I have 5 more bottles, can't imagine it will get that much better. Funny side, while the wine was decanting, my wife managed to accidently drop some guacamole into the wine. We had to scramble to pour the wine into another decanter before it dissolved any further into the wine. Happily, no negtive effect.

Wow. This is one of the best reds I've had all year. Just incredibly rich, yet elegant and fresh. I was worried about the potential of excessive oak treatment, but I worried for no good reason. I can't even notice the oak treatment, and all that shines is the terrific dark blackberry and blackcurrant fruit and great freshness. As food friendly a big red wine as there is. Although not cheap, this is still a QPR in my book and just a flat out great wine that will have the stuffing to age for decades. If that's what you plan to do, I suggest getting a case, because any less won't last very long given how this is drinking right now.

Lovers of secondary notes and bottle development should leave this for half a decade or more

very typical, mid-tier red blend that didn't speak much to where it came from. black and red fruits, a little minerality, but mostly pedestrian while still enjoyable. it didn't do a whole lot for me, although other people seemed to like it. not much typicity other than being a good, quaffable red blend. if scoring, 87-89.

More than medium bodied on the palate, black and red currants, other red berries, medium(+) tannins and tannins of a reasonably softened type. Young but accessible. Could gain from further cellaring. 88-89 p
Slightly more developed than the 2006 Le Serre Nuove.

Dark ruby red, healthy and vibrant.

Err on the 90 points because of the satisfying finish, else 87-89. Definitely needs food, it went well with grilled rib eye and top loin. Steak dinner wine.

Funny side, while the wine was decanting, my wife managed to accidently drop some guacamole into the wine. We had to scramble to pour the wine into another decanter before it dissolved any further into the wine. Happily, no negtive effect.
