Great bottle. Much better than the last I had. Very good concentration. Dried black fruits and dried violets with lots of nature Oak notes. Shoe trees. Certainly fully mature, but not flagging.

This has evolved very nicely and is just perfectly mature right now. Actually, the wine performed a lot better than I originally expected. It is showing a wonderful balance between aged flavors, wet forest floor and mushrooms, but still has a touch of fresh fruit. It does not seem to be affected by the vintage and has a good balance.

Deep ruby red colour with brick edges. Medium (+) nose with tobacco, leather, black pepper, red plum, smoke, autumn leaves and forest floor. Medium taste of sweet tobacco, autumn leaves, sweet pepper, black tea, red bell pepper and licorice. Medium (-) acidity. Medium (-) and rounded tannins. Medium body. Needs some air. From a double magnum bottle. A great Bordeaux that drinks well now with some air. Goes well with beef or lamb.

Very impressed on how this has held up and actually evolved. Color is garnet with no bricking. The nose is mature with black cherry, blackcurrant, leather, tobacco, and forest floor. On the palate, it is dry with medium acid, medium tannins with a silky-rounded texture. It feels almost velvety. Some iron notes along with meaty ones. For such a ripe vintage, there is no sign of overripeness. The fruit although tempered by time, it is still fresh. Finish is of mid plus length. The wine is delicious and ready to be drunk. It should stay like this for another 3 to 5 years but I doubt there is room for improvement.

Whooa, Didn't know quite what to suspect-my only bottle. I lucked out. I think it is at peak now. A beautiful sweet core. Had with grilled steak. it worked OK-but it would work in a lot of places-take it to your place. A perfectly balanced Bordeaux nose- it's got everything including the mint/eucalyptus elements. I guess I liked it. WINE ON!

The age helped this wine. I had younger vintages that just seemed flat. The fruit is subtle on this as well, but the maturity adds secondary notes of earth and leather and minerals that round it out.

Second Sunday Group: 2015 Châteauneuf-du-Pape (Barb's): Popped and poured with dinner. Opens with a nice mix of red and black currant fruit, leather and earth. Medium-bodied with softened tannins and flavors of red fruit, earth and dried tobacco. Immensely enjoyable now but will clearly hold for some time. Now-2028.

Tasted blind, textbook old Bordeaux, everyone guessed. Not much fruit left, strong notes of leather, stable, coffee, earth, dusty cellar, mushrooms. I am a big fan of Cantemerle, but this was not an easy vintage and it shows. Tannins are still present, and together with acidity and lack of fruit, it brings some imbalance to the wine.

Drank this at Li Bai (Sheraton Towers) with my wine mates last night. Theme of the evening: Bordeaux wines 10 years and above.
A rustic Bordeaux. Some notes of oak, old leather, and musky cupboard. The age is showing through the brownish hues and development of secondary coffee and toffee notes.

I didn't take specific notes but I remember I really enjoyed this wine. Typical old Bordeaux with almost a touch of sweetness on the end palate. It drinks beautifully now and I think it is at its peak.

Decanted, but didn't throw tons of sediment. Note taken after 3+ hours of air.
Soft, but pleasant, classic Bordeaux nose of cassis and cedar. Sweet cherries and subtle oak on the palate. The finish is smooth, but rather short. Definitely at its peak now, but should hold for 1-2 more years before heading downhill. This chateau should probably be downgraded, but it makes some delicate, subtle wines.

Complex, with classic Bordeaux elements and showing good fruit; sophisticated, nicely balanced. About 5 hours after decanting, it really opened into a charming wine. Soft tannins remaining in the finish. But at its peak now.

The aromas of show a great intensity of ripe redcurrant and cherry laced with floral and slightly savory notes. Fruit driven on the front, the palate seamlessly combines freshness, power and sweetness of fruit, with well developed red fruit dominating, underpinned with tobacco, pepper, game and leather, before notes of pencil lead emerge on the finish.

A surprise when revealed! I was sure that this was much older, and from a much cooler vintage than it turned out, when the bottle was revealed. My blind guess was 1996 left bank, due to the dry fruit and high acidity. No sign, at all, of the 2003 superhot vintage in this wine. Nose shows a mature left bank profile, with fine somewhat dry cabernet Sauvignon fruit, stable tones, some nice herbs and vegetal notes and gravel present. Palate is long, a bit of sour red berries, creamy and ripe tannins, good length with very high and fine acidity. Fruit is drying, so I would enjoy any bottles I had now, and not wait much longer since this is on its way over the peak, judging from this bottle tasted tonight. Good spot right now and a mature Bdx. A very fine achievement from a 5éme Cru Chateau in a rather overall bad vintage. I enjoyed this allot. (89 – 90)

Aerated a total of 3 hours. Hours 1 and 2, the wine had tremendous amounts of barnyard funk. Very strong. Hour 3, it became Brett and medicinal.
Very well integrated tannins and great full body.
Unfortunately, the wine tasted the same as the nose and was not very enjoyable. It also had a very green characteristic (menthol, eucalyptus, green peppers).

Fully mature, the wine is pure elegant charm. The medium bodied, sweet cherry, tobacco, earth and floral notes are showing at their best. This is not a wine for long term cellaring.
Excellent performance and drinking really nicely right now. Classic stuff but not a great depth. However, still plenty of Bdx style and easy to drink and enjoy.

tasted from a magnum - initial disappointed thought after the first glass was that it is a bit off and corked. put away the bottle and re-tasted 24 hours later - very different taste, much softer, no cork and easy drink. has most of the regular cantemerle features, no depth of 2009-2010 vintages though

No real formal notes. Drank wonderful, loads of black fruit, well integrated tannins with a touch of spices and coca from the oak. Just went really well with the steaks we had. From a magnum. Against all of the Left Bank tasting from 2003, we had last Summer this would hold it own at a much lower tariff.

Four years after last tasting, and this wine is still drinking well. Still funky on first opening, but it blows off quickly. Nice, classic Bdx profile of cassis and herbs. Not enough complexity to move it into outstanding, but for the price I paid in the futures market ($21) so many years ago, this delivers.

Opened, a couple of hours before drinking. Strong aromas of dark cherries and leather. Good. A bit warm but - if it did not tell on the bottle I would not have guessed 2003 which is quite something - cantemerle never really lets you down.

Classic nose of cassis and maraschino cherries with pencil shavings, blood, slight barnyard, blue flowers, tobacco and dusty cedar. Fullbodied and supple palate with meaty weight, balanced acidity and loads of dark fruit: cassis, cherries and blueberries. Graphite, tobacco, coffee and dusty cedar. Long aftertaste. Very classy Bdx for a hot year. Drinking just beautifully now, though there's no hurry with this one. Fine.

A much improved effort. We have held on to this case for over 5 years since buying it and as time has evolved, so has the wine, rather nicely! Dark garnet with intense tearing. A strong aroma of earth, berries, leather-sack, with a hint of clove-spice alongside a miniscule toast hint. The taste evolves nicely in the mouth with some added peppered undertone, a 20-second lingering bouquet of jam and floral berries (contributed by the Cabernet Franc). Impressive!
Opened, a couple of hours before drinking. Strong aromas of dark cherries and leather. A bit warm but with nice mature tannin. A finish of dark fruit and - medium length. Last bottle and in time.

This was a nice surprise. I was expecting the usual 03 characteristics, but this has neither burnt fruit, nor drying tannins, nor a lack of typicity. It's got good ripe berry flavours, concentrated but not overly so, maybe not a totally typical Cantemerle, but plenty of charm and elegance. Strangely enough a much better wine than the rather innocuous 2000. Excellent value too, since it cost the same as a CB. It should improve further over the next two or three years.

ChTR kokous 25.01.2012 (SKO-toimisto): Decanted for an hour. A garnet red, no bricking in evidence yet. The nose is very typical Bordeaux and at a very nice stage for me. Lots of barnyard, cassis and even a bit of coffee. The palate was delicious, lots of cassis and tannins, not sweet at all. This is ready to go now, but will last for a while yet. I was happy that I opened this bottle though, as the were signs of imminent seepage, the cork would have failed within a year or two!

Tears in a dark garnet colour are moderate. Deep berry taste/aroma with hints of vanilla with strands of medium tannis and coffee rinds. The bouquet is long and lingers well. A great wine that is close to ready - expect good things in 2015

Opened, but not decanted, for about 60 minutes before drinking. Strong aromas of dark cherries, brambles and warm leather. The palate is smooth and warm with a lovely tannic, fruity fullness. Quite a bitter apple skin finish but this does fade slowly into dark fruit and apple pie. I have two more and will probably leave another 2-3 years before the next one, it has some edges to lose.

The Cantemrele is starting to develop nicely. Dark Ruby coloured with mid- tearing. Perfume of forest berries and slight moss. Taste is deep and intensely dense with strong rasperry and blakcbery with tannin-structure, leathery and tea-like. Wine opening up nicely and should be peaking in 2013-2015

Took a surprisingly long time to really open up (for a 2003)... the nose was pretty closed for the first 45 minutes to an hour. But when it did, there was lots of dark fruits, cinnamon spice and a ton of rusty iron notes (think dried blood). The mouth is full and round with tons of dark fruit flavors, green pepper, earthy herbal notes and firm, but well integrated tannins. There is still some really good acidity hanging around on the back end too.
Two days later (no vacu-vin) and still not going downhill ... push out drink-by date 2 or 3 years. This has got some legs.

Bordeaux 101 in a glass. Graphite and cherries are the dominant aromas with some cinnamon and some road side fennel as well. The nose and palate were a little tight despite being decanted for about a half an hour. Once it did open up, there were lots of zingy red fruits, mouth watering acidity and slightly green tannins. Got better and softer over the next hour. Not as big and round as some of the other '03's (very hot vintage).

Purchased 4/06, received 12/06. Cost $21. Upon first opening, aromas of funk, earth, and leather. As it opens up, the earth remains with the addition of plums, cassis, and some herbal notes. Silky texture. Tastes like a cross between Burgundy and Bordeaux. Still awkward. Will be interesting to see what happens to it over the next 2-4 years.

A medium-dark ruby in the glass, this red Bordeaux has an intriguing nose of dark cherry, raspberry, red currants, earth, and eucalyptus. These notes are repeated on the palate, along with pepper spice and significant initial drying tannins. This was decanted for one hour, which served to soften this wine and render its palate more expansive. A hint of raisin became apparent after an hour, but this was not at all cloying or offputting. The finish on this wine was on the order of 20 seconds. Overall, this is an excellent wine and was a very good match for our grilled t-bone steaks. It would have rated higher with more complexity and a longer finish.

Caught this on sale about six months ago for about $30. Drank two of the three purchased, both with same note. I can clearly smell the heat wave of the vintage from this wine. The aroma was of over-ripe grape, raisiny, cooked plums and little acidity to support the fruit. Toasted oak and concentrated fruit juice is what this is, with a dash of alcohol. This does not live up to my expectation from this classified growth Bordeaux.

90 points taking it only cost $20 into account... (otherwise I'd give it an 89). opened to cedary, slightly herbacios notes, but with much more underlying fruit available, after 30 minutes it had a nice midpalate feel, with cool red fruits, a deft touch of wood but this time the tannins were fine not dry... much improved for me from the last showing.

Impressive!

I loved their 2000 which was much better than this bottle. This is a wine to drink young (say within 12-15 years of the vintage). Notes of spice and currant with a ripe texture. A little lacking in depth. 88-89 points.

An oak-derived nose, followed by a somewhat jammy palate. There is substance to this wine, a tannic presence, and I think it will evolve well in the bottle. Just do not try it now.

Lovely fruit and forest aroma. Very nice. A good year for Cantemerle. 1/06
