Crimson in color. 16.1% ABV. Funky nose of red fruits, sherry and tawny port. Medium body with juicy acidity. Super tasty wine on the palate with flavors of raspberry, strawberry, plums and black pepper. The finish is long and sweet. Ready to drink. Peculiar nose and great taste but not an off bottle in my opinion. Somewhat of an anomaly given previous wines from this vineyard.

Had this at Paul Z's house, amazing Zin at its peak. Perfect cedar and spice nose that gives way into dark ripe red fruit and finishes long with plum, anise, and mocha. One of the best wines I've had lately.

Wow- WOTY potential here. This bottle was at it's peak and drank perfect with the Filet and baked potato. Definitely the best Zin I have had in a long time and outshined the last bottle I had (which was very good)- that bottle was on the decline... this bottle was not declining at all. Dark fruits and a good layer of pepper and spices. Long finish, perfect amount of acid, great nose and mouth feel as well.

Turley at its finest. Pepper, leather and dark fruit on the nose, rush of blackberry and spice flavor going down the hatch. Incredibly balanced, with no real burn from the zinfandel heat. My friend John dislikes Turley, though he is known for being smug about things like new world wine and cities other than San Francisco. Paired delectably with chimichurri and spicy Korean satay pork belly skewers.

What a Father's Day treat!! An '06 Zin that has stood the test of time in the cellar! Suggest a shorter decant time on this one. Previous tasting notes suggesting black fruits, boysenberry, etc. that were not there for me. Way more subtle fruit notes allowing other complexities to shine. There is a an unusual, very pleasant funk on the nose. Like a briny, oily, smoky, golden raisin thing that was difficult to pinpoint. On the palate, this zin rocked; super soft with just the right amount of residual acid. I agree with other reviewers that the drinking window is here, but do not panic if properly cellared. This one should make it through next year.

I wish I had popped this one a bit earlier in its life. Big rich palate and nose with cherries and spices but the dominate flavor I got was raisins. Raisins are not my favorite note for a flavor profile. The alcohol was well hidden and the others at the dinner liked the wine very much. I don't know if the raisin notes were evident earlier in the life of the wine or not. Without this note the wine would have rated around a 92 with me.

Pnp. Reading others notes on this one, after i had some, and i find i agree with some and cant tell what others were drinking. Its a deep dark arterial red color, not transluscent. Definately cherries on the nose. Something else. What is it? I cant quite pinpoint it. Someone wrote beefstock. ??? I dont think thats it but whatever it is, im not certain it compliments the cherries. Peppery on the palate, more cherries and possibly even the blueberries that another poster wrote of. Not overly tannic but i dont think more time will smooth this wine out. Certainly still has some heat. Rounds off fairly quickly then a bit of an off taste. Decided to try some dark chocolate which really helps on the backend. Big wine though and although i do like it, i also dont see a lot more of it in my cellar. Blackberry compost and strawberry and garden mint leaf on the nose. In the mouth, big fruit with the cigar box tannins and acidity building through mid palate. Licorice and fruit through the finish with the acid/tannin balance. Like so many of the Ueberroth's, it is notable for it's boldness and finesse.

On opening this was huge, a bit plummy and approaching the edges of drinkability. I was almost port like without a lot of finesse. By day two, the nose was still huge, grapey with hints of oak and smoke, but the wine was calmer, less monolithic, with pepper, zynberry and carmelized notes. Finish was medium-length.

A really special bottle of wine that's better on its own than with food. The arousing nose of prunes, black olive, and mint cookie dough leads to volumes of peppery, entertaining fruit, whose presence undulates and decreases over the course of a couple hours, but at its best lasts and lasts—shuffling confusedly and then reuniting as if choreographed—until the unripe bent of the mostly resolved tannins keeps it complex (and in-a-way, clean) but also leaves the finish less pleasurable than it could be.

FYI, Larry Turley (Helen's brother) owns Turley Wine Cellars. I don't believe that she has made any of their wines since 1995. I think Ehren Jordan has been making these wines since 1996, and deserves the credit for the wine you rated 93 points ("Outstanding").

First off, I am not a fan of Zin. Heard great things about Turley's Zins (thanks 2loyal for the clarification) So, this is my first Turley Zin. By far the most unique Zin I've ever had. Poured more transparent than I expected, almost Pinot like. After decanting for an hour, the nose is a strange beef bouillon and cherry. Very unexpected. Midpalate is silly like a Pinot, again completely unexpected. Finish is where the magic happens. It's utterly muscat in its orange-desert-wine like finish. The sweetness just sails on and on for so long, it's hard to believe.
Fun to try, but probably wouldn't buy again.

Drank this for my birthday. Decanted and poured through Vinturi. In a better place than it was a year ago. Big red fruit on the nose with the right amount of zin spice. Tannins have mellowed over time and are in good harmony with the acidity. Long finish with the spice really showing up on the back end. Don't see any reason why you should wait on remaining bottles. Chances are, you have the 07 08 and 09 Ueberroth's sitting in the cellar as I do!

Heady aromas of strawberry and cherry jam that is followed by notes of earth and a whiff of alcohol. On the palate there are intense red fruit including cherries, strawberries, raspberries, earth and spices. The finish has a sweet seductive note that is followed by notes of white pepper. Should get better with couple of more years of age.

Deep maroon color. Brambly berries, white and black pepper, smoke, vanilla, minerals, and a bit of dried earth on the nose. Full bodied with solid, ripe tannins and good acidity. The brambly berries coat the palate then the pepper kicks in giving a very nice spicy overtone. Long juicy finish with the fruit adding some raspberry. An awesome bottle of wine that seems to be at its peak, though it will undoubtably hold for a few years.

This is a freakin' awesome wine. After a long decant, the nose explodes with a mixture of briar, raspberry, limestone, smoke, and freshly turned earth. On the palate, a core of sweet raspberry, enveloped by flinty mineral and a peppery finish. Perfect acidity makes it refreshing and mouth cleansing. Exactly what I want in a zin.

Nearly translucent in the glass. PnP'ed through Vinturi. Dark fruit and brambly tones on the nose with a hint of cherry too. Those flavors are all apparent on the palate with some tannins on the back end. Long finish. Ehren Jordan does it again by managing to hide the 16.1% ABV because the wine is not hot. One of the most famous of the Turley zins and is a real treat with manchego and aged cheddar cheese.

A big, funky, sort of currant thing even more prominent on the nose than the taste. Good complexity and decent fruit concentration without seeming jammy. I might have rated it higher, but the red fruit was a bit too intense for my palate. Others might like it more.

December Zinfandel Tasting (Scott & Todd's): For me, this was the WOTD with its pepper and spice infused blackbery, lingonberry, and red cherry fruit. Baking spices provided power on the nose, and it had the longest finish of the day, maintaining its high register without being shrill; lovely sugar-acid balance, showing less sweetness than every other wine but not at all austere or closed. Really superb and worth the $ (not showing any heat whatsoever for me). I will be stopping by Turley every time I pass through Paso from now on.

Super ripe, massive fruit layered Zin by Turley. This wine is blessed with aromatics of boysenberry syrup and wood chips. Deliciously intermingled flavors of rustic berry, dark cherries, boysenberry, and blackberry race across the palate. Flashes of tar and underbrush add an extra dimension to this wonderful wine. Bitter chocolate and cocoa also grace the layers of this lush red. A finish that opens up with smoke, grill pan and ends with a remarkably smooth pepper edge. Fabulous, hats off to the Commish on this one. Turley tasting room Paso Robles Harvest Festival.

16.1% ABV. Translucent dark garnet in the glass. Pretty, spicy nose of sweet raspberry. Full bodied with rich, ripe sweet raspberry and boysenberry fruit. Hedonistic and yummy seem like appropriate words. Not really showing its alcohol, either. Quite nice for its style. 92-93.

The nose on this wine is deep and spicy, with an intense herbal tone. It’s very pastoral and full of tobacco and cherry notes. Black stone, chocolate, and gun smoke open up on the spin.
Beginning with dried fruit and peppered, grilled meat, this wine quickly moves into a dense and spicy combination of dark fruit and firm minerals. This is clearly a wine that would benefit from at least 8 to 10 years of bottle aging. It’s extremely intense, tight and earthy, and it shows spectacular acidity and structure. Its palate is explosive and the finish seems to never end. This is clearly a masterpiece, and its only going to get better over the years. A wine to hold on to and a wine worth buying.

Big, bold, black fruit, ripe blackberries. The heat shows through (16 percent) but it doesn't ruin the wine. Not raisined at all. Tons of eucalyptus, very bright flavors. The nose shows the heat though it was a bit better on day 2. Reasonably polished wine that I enjoyed but I was glad I hadn't paid the tariff.

Even better since the last bottle. Nose of raspberries and sweet sun dried tomato. This is like no other zinfandel I've ever had. Body is full but still graceful. Tannins and acids are well balanced. The finish is long with bramble, briar, sweet spice, and a touch of boysenberry. I'm not sure I ever need to own any other zin.

Nice. 06 is coming around. Needs a couple hours to air out. Very Syrah like in its deep olive, pork fat and saline notes. If not for subtle boysenberry notes and briary character, I'd swear it was a Syrah. Trademark Turley oak and spicy cedar notes are present early, but the olive tapenade repeats and dominates the long, soft finish. Pleasantly surprised.

Jammy...but in a good way. Nice mouthfeel for a zin. Not quite my favorite varietal anymore but a well built zin that doesn't fall in to the "air quote" category of overripe, boozy, extracts that are so popular. Had as a cocktail wine.

Wow! This is not the typical Turley fruit bomb one comes to expect. The nose is a pure raspberry liqueur. Taste is quite elegant, not overwhelming or too extracted. Reminds me of Torbreck's Les Amis. Body is well balanced with more raspberry, light tannins, and some cherry. A wine for French Rhone lovers.

One thing to note- I don't have a lot of experience with the "nicer" zins, and this is the most expensive bottle of wine I've bought- so take that into consideration when you look at my rating. I do love zins, and out of several years of wine drinking, this is the best my wife and I have had.

The brambly berries coat the palate then the pepper kicks in giving a very nice spicy overtone. Long juicy finish with the fruit adding some raspberry. An awesome bottle of wine that seems to be at its peak, though it will undoubtably hold for a few years.

If not for subtle boysenberry notes and briary character, I'd swear it was a Syrah. Trademark Turley oak and spicy cedar notes are present early, but the olive tapenade repeats and dominates the long, soft finish. Pleasantly surprised.
