Slightly awkward on the nose when first opened — aromas of elderflower. But after about 40 minutes the funk was gone and wine showed deep rich caramel, molasses, cherry. On the palate — beautiful. Cherry, caramel, spice. Silky, structured, balanced. Nearly perfect right now.

Outstanding. Opaque dark plum color, full bodied, rich plum and cherry flavors, smooth tannins with just a little bite, excellent acidity. No age deterioration. No decant required. It’s a privilege to drink this wine.

Dark, blackberry fruit, concentrated and fruit forward. Classic Napa Cab with great complexity...notes of chocolate, currant and cedar on the finish. Absolutely needs an hour decant.

Nicely mellowed since 2013 tasting. Drinks like an old school Napa or a Wash state Bordeaux blend, with lovely secondary flavors and decent structure but no hard edges. Great wine.

It’s been longer than I thought since my last bottle... nice dark cherry, violet and cedar, spice and cocoa nibs with the initial aroma. Dark cherry, loam and spice on the palette. Tannins still need time to smooth out. A good 10-20 years of good drinking!

Monthly Men's Wine Dinner (2120 Restaurant, Seattle): Pop and pour. This baby was singing right off and just kept getting better. Fruity pipe tobacco on the nose. Medium body with red fruit and a touch of baker's chocolate at first, then with air, powerful and balanced with milk chocolate, dark fruit and licorice. Super showing. Unanimous WOTN!

Ready to drink, but can take a few more years of aging as well. Not super oaked, nicely balanced. Tannins are firm and not overbearing. Pines and plum predominant, tapering off into a peaty finish. Long lasting finish too, over 2 minutes. Very enjoyable overall!

Poured into decanter through aerator and let stand for 30 minutes.
color: opaque ruby with purple rim
Nose: Initially just oak signature of cotton candy and something between vanilla and caramel. As it warmed, menthol and mocha notes emerged followed by dark fruit.
Palate: velvety but drying tannin, sweet plums, and subtle chocolate tones.
Overall impression is a well made wine that went very well with a NY strip with chimichurri, but really failed to excite on any level.

Sweet but balanced overall. Dark cherries, plum, Asian spice and definitely a touch of heat, with well integrated tannins. Too much on the extracted side for my palate, without the richness or depth to offset the jamminess.

Decanted 5 hrs. Earthy notes, Hot and peppery, even with sub 15 AC. There may be some fruit around somewhere, we had hints every now and then, but it didn't show. Never opened at all. So disappointing. Bottle 2 will sit for many years.

Tasted at the winery with the vintner, along with the '11, '95, and '96. First let me say this is a well crafted wine, with excellent nose, red fruit, mineral, and tannic structure for many years of aging. This is a buy and hold wine, that is good now, but could be great in 5 or more years. If '11 is an infant, and the vintages in the 90s are lovely ladies, this '06 is a teenager, barely out of braces, but still full of potential.

opened and let it breathe for about 90 minutes before drinking it. This wine smells/tastes more like a valley floor wine instead of a mountain wine. It it is still very young and could benefit from another 3-4 years of bottle age. It is pretty smooth, but has a short finish at all, which is pretty disappointing for the price & reason for the low score. It does have some decent flavor on the mid-palate which makes it a decent but not great wine.

PnP and drank over 2.5 hrs. This opened up watery and weak, but quickly gained aromatics and depth. Aromas and flavors of dark dried fruit, leather, spice, earth, and bramble lead to a long dry dusty finish. An interesting Seavey, and quite different from the 2008 tasted on release. This is more of a dark and brooding style, truer to the 2006 vintage, and although this is very well made I don't think the style is quite my preference.

Into the decanter at 11 am. Soft, but sound cork with little penetration. Moderate amount of medium sized sediment. Typical Seavey flavor profile, dusty tannins have relaxed enough to enjoy, touchs of smoke & tar. Subtle fruit flavors. Definitely a winner.

Decanted about 10 hours, then tasted over the next 24. Moderate amount of medium to LARGE sediment. Typical Seavey aromatic profile, but nice balance with good fruit. A bit of dried leather. Tasted head to head with 2006 Paul Hobbs Stagecoach, remarkably similar, though the two vineyards are fairly close and have similar profiles (rocky hillside). Really very similar tastings, the PH was a bit fruitier with a touch of esters, the Seavey had a bit more aromatics. Both are excellent wines.

I know it's still a baby but I wanted to try this again before I ordered more and it is phenomenal. We let this decant for a few hrs and it was the clear favorite of the night. This is not for the faint of heart. Rich & dense and strikingly powerful. This is just stupid good. The nose was amazing and I wish they made a glade plug in of it because I would fill my house with the aroma. Chocolate, cassis, black currant and heavy on the black cherry. Just awesome. The first sip a knockout. It just coats the palate & the tannins while still young are so nicely integrated and balance out the perfect bit of acidity. This was dense yet soft and silky smooth. So well rounded. The complexity was astounding as you can tell it was just a different caliber of napa Cab. The finish was great and lingered for what had to be close to 45 seconds or even longer and I'll be calling Seavey this week to place an order. For the price it's amazing. Heck even for double its great. Fantastic job Seavey! Excuse any typos...I'll blame the iPhone.

Probably did everything wrong with this; opened it too young, served it with a crab cake and stuffed flounder. And the cork crumbled as I was pulling it. Lots of crud (not just sediment) strained off when pouring, probably from the cork. I wasn't expecting much... And yet, this was simply superb, from the first sip to the last, makes-you-wanna-lick-the-glass drop. Part of a vertical (05,06,07) from Lot18, and the lowest rated of the three; now I can't wait to try the others (but I know I really should).

Interesting -- more secondary of the Cabernets that I have recently had. Green notes, and for some reason the unflattering comparison of seaweed came to mind, but more umami-ish. Seemless and very Napa cab like on the palate, lingering finish with some tannic grip. Still young, a very long life ahead i would guess. Very well made, attractive.

Popped and let sit for about 45 minutes prior to drinking. Very nice, pleasant nose of dark fruits and light alcohol. The palate was not as fruit forward as I would have thought given the nose, but more of a basil / herb flavor with some dark berries on the back. This was very well structured and will age quite nicely. There was more sediment than typical, but this was a very nice drinking wine.

Pop & decant for 2+ hours, this is a BIG wine. Definitely not subtle as its inky purple coloring stains the glass. The nose is mostly black cherry & cassis, as well as more subtle notes of bacon fat and mint. Even before this opened up a bit, it was rich, and big. Loads upon loads of black & blue fruit, mostly cherry liqueur, blueberry cobbler & fruitcake. Tobacco, spice & dark mocha chocolate fill out the rest of its profile. Mouth-coating tannins, fat & rounded, very well balanced, though it would do well to accompany food. Incredibly complex, lots going on, and will deliver for another 8-10 years with ease. 5+12+17+8 = 92

Decanted for 30 minutes prior to dinner (not enough time) and had with grilled skirt steaks. Tobacco, herbaceous, black currants, smoke, black tea on nose. On palate, black cherry, black currants, tobacco, dill. Medium body, good acids, & long finish. Great with the steaks. I preferred the '05 vintage to this but I also decanted the '05 for 3 hours before drinking. 91+/- - decant for a few hours if drinking now.

Slow ox for a couple of hours and followed for about 7. Initially showed dense raspberry jam. A very full bodied wine with round tannins. Some framboise emerged as well and after 3-4 hours black tea. Just enough acidity to balance the flavors. Mouthfeel gradually lightened as it revealed espresso, tar, and smoke in the lengthy finish. Nice structure and texture. Towards the end of the evening the smoke began to take over a bit too much and it was lighter on the tongue than I prefer but it held together quite well for the first several hours. Will try to hold off another couple of years for the next one but not sure I will be able to stay away that long.

Popped and aerated in bottle for 60 minutes. Medium-plus to deep garnet/purple hue. Pronounced aromas of dark fruits, black currant, tobacco, herbaceous green, and smoke from oak. Medium-plus body. On the palate, this shows a nice core of blackberry fruits which are complimented by herbaceous earth notes and a bit of toasted oak, the latter of which seems to grow more prominent with air. The tannins are chewy and mildly astringent on the moderate-plus close. Although surprisingly somewhat accessible, this could use 3-4 more years in the cellar and will easily go for much longer. In fact, aging should bring out the best from this wine as it's not only made in a conducive, age-worthy style but is also from the more structured 2006 vintage.

this is a big wine, but not in the over-ripe, extracted way. rather, it's got a lot of intense, yet elegant flavor going on, and is more classically-styled than its Napa origins might indicate. at this point I think it's safe to say it has a long life ahead of it, but it's a bit closed right now, and the oak up front needs some time to integrate.

Plum, raspberry, blueberry nose. Black fruit, black currant, and plum on the palate. Very tight on opening. Finish was short. Nothing notable about it, other than sediment Very uninspiring.
I like this one a lot. I did not think it was as backward as Parker said but was definitelty not a fruity snooty stule. Tons of structuctre and packed with tar, scorched earth, tanins, and complexity. Could use a few more years in the cellar but could not wait so I had to try with prime ribs. Bottle was done in one sitting.(93-94)

Smells like Monterey Pinot. Sorry, just tasting Bernardus. More Herbacious than I would have though the winery would let it become. Youthful, needing a touch of time. At $100 undistinguished from its competitors.

A really enjoyable Cali Cab. Decanted 2 hours; drank over the next 3. Just kept getting better. Bly and black fruit, mushroom, earth. A very silky cab without overpowering tannins, and a lush finish.

Cork had brownish sediment Decanted for one hour. Very good nose of ripe fruit and some funk. Tasted of stewed prune and boysenberry. Earthy mushroom like taste. Nice finish. Medium tannins. Very good but not great.

Outstanding rich flavors and equally deep structure, with earthy flavors in the fruit. Only aired for an hour, might have benefited from longer. Still young and muscular, but enjoyable now or in 5+ yrs.

Young and powerful. Tannins still very young and tight but much much potential here. Hold off for a couple more years.

This Deep rich Howell Mountain cab still needs a little more time. I knew it was early but wanted to see where this is at. IT WAS great with my steak.

Big, delicious wine. Deep fruit and soy sauce balanced by oak. Deep and rich. A touch more acidity might make it even better. Look forward to tasting again. Could score higher.

Very nice, well balanced, aged Cali cab. Solid, drinking well now with good amounts of fruit, but nothing truly special, nuanced, or sophisticated. A nice wine for $30, but not worth $60+.

Smells like Monterey Pinot. Sorry, just tasting Bernardus. More Herbacious than I would have though the winery would let it become. Youthful, needing a touch of time. At $100 undistinguished from its competitors.
