gold yellow color, lemon and apple/pear nose after 30 minute, mostly grassy apple/pear fruit, hign minerality, short to medium finish. Wine was decent with roasted cod but past its best drinking window in our opinion.

Really enjoyable chardonnay. Might be a touch past prime but this is drinking rather well. There's a lot of controversy about "aged Kistlers" not really keeping up with some of the other higher end chardonnay producers. When you drink wines like this, you're inclined to just throw all that information out the window. Lots of aged notes, herbal, asian pear, a little citrus and I believe that based on what I was tasting that it probably had more citrus at one time, but not so much now. Finish was very vibrant. Wasn't really rounded...lots more minerality than I was thinking it was going to have. Still quite nice.

The last bottle of a case I have enormously enjoyed over the past 5 years - opened and drank slowly over several hours watching English Premier Laague matches live at home.
Distinctly mature yellowed gold colour. Nose is lemon-flavoured boiled sweets, distinctly burnt creme brulee, slightly sweet old ladies' talcum powder....all very tertiary. Palate is initially very rounded but then breaks out into its component parts of charred oak, barley sugar, rich honeysuckle and overall just moving towards a slight cloying-ness as its more youthful acidity is no longer there. Still quite resonant and reverberant but I'm pleased that i have not kept this final bottle any longer.... I have really enjoyed this wine over so many years but now it's time to move on to the 2009 and 2010.

Unlike the 8/23/14 bottle, the wine was leaner and more minerally in the mouth...more Premier Cru Chablis than a Kistler Chardonnay. Still very fresh and an excellent match with Alaskan spot prawns.

Shoe Dinner with Tomasso Malani (Crown Wine Cellars, 18 Deep Water Bay Drive, Shouson Hill, Hong Kong): Three bottles opened two hours in advance then drank over an appetiser of different tartares. Light straw-yellow gold colour. Nose is immediately BAM!.....integrated oak, crushed fresh whole lemons and charred lemon skin. Thick and slightly oily palate but with really unctuous burnt lemons and very fresh citric acidity.....it immediately generates a very heady and reverberent resonance inside the head even in the mid-palate.....then followed towards the end palate by a ton of different lemon sensations that finish with a dry chalk and dry minerals terroir-driven finish. Probably the best bottle of this vineyard and vintage I have every had.....pleased because I have always liked Durrell and Vine Hill best of the Kistler vineyards and it's great to experience one showing so well. No hints of decline......good for another 2-3 years but I'd find any excuse to drink one now. 94+

Yellow-gold color. Aromas of tropical fruits, crime brûlée, minerals and wood spices. Very ripe but beautifully balanced fruit in the mouth with great depth and length and well-integrated oak. Powerful and oily on the palate. This delicious wine is just at the beginning of its peak drinking period.

Great chardonnay aging very well. Massive nose - opulent fruit -very buttery (an element of dark toast) - clear bottle age age and a slight oxidative character. Distinct caramel character. In the mouth, round, balanced and alcoholic. Very guava with caramel at the end. Heat at the end. Multidimensional and huge concentration. Has the classic Kistler bracing structure. This is brilliant wine which may not be worth the $$ but it is one of the new world's great chardonnays.

A tad clunky at first, but with some exposure to air(decant) blossoms out into a gorgeous chardonnay, with good acidity & minerality, tasting like a particularly light and elegant cross between lemon tart and banana cream pie. Pale gold color, slightly cloudy. Faint notes of butter and honey on the nose and something else in there, too...fresh cut flowers perhaps? But it's very subtle. I don't trust my tastebuds to properly assess this wine as I am only three weeks removed from some nasty chemotherapy that wiped out all the cells in my mouth and they have not yet fully recovered. I will say, it tastes good!

I just love Kistler! This is a classic. The fruit runs the gammit, pineapple, pear, orange. The thing I really appreciate is the integration, even at this age. I can't wait to see how this evolves.

Well, that's pretty darn good chardonnay. A friend--I guess one can only obtain this via vineyard allocation -- brought this to our dinner last night, so she and I worked on the bottle while everyone else drank red, which was probably more appropriate for the short-rib stew. Still: what a nice wine! At least a 91 or 92, maybe higher: I have about a third of a bottle left, but I don't know when I'll have time to sample it again. Certainly not overly oaked, nor California-butterized. Fragrant nose; a real pleasure to drink.
