Opened after an oxidative 06 Tenuta Nuova, and this is still showing beautifully fresh with plenty of earth and some dry red and dark fruit. An utterly classic BdM from Silvio Nardi that will not improve from here but rather very gradually fade as opposed to oxidizing like the modern Sangiovese fraction unfortunately does

I brought to Harrison CC last nite for dinner. No idea where I got this wine, must've been a gift from some time ago. No decant. Garnet in color, slight bricking at glass edges. Nose of black cherries and perhaps some tar. Medium body, tannins mostly resolved, good amount of sour cherries, good acidity, and excellent length. I noticed a slightly stony or chalky quality to the wine, along with minerality and earth. Notes of leather and tar as well. Good complexity here. Very nice BdM that I'd never had before.

Pnp with Pasta at home. Almost a year since my last bottle and again a wonderful showing. Classic fragrant and earthy Sangiovese, more red than dark fruit, precise, tannins seem resolved now. In a perfect spot now for me, and the real deal if you are looking for a traditional style of BdM that does not break the bank

Prior bottle was almost exactly a year ago and my notes were generally consistent. Red cherry, plum, earth and leather notes on the nose. Medium bodied with rounded red cherry upfront with just a hint of brightness. Adds a plum note through the middle and then lightly tart red cherry towards the back. Mid-body feels fully integrated now, but didn't really take the step forward in terms of depth an complexity that I'd hoped. Retains enough acidity and fine grained tannins on the back for structure and balances the fruit well. Transition to the finish is probably the highpoint for this wine at present as there's a nice little burst of acidity and darker fruit notes that showed well. Minerals and spice notes on the finish. Should be able to hold this level for several more years.

Consistent with last bottle 5 months ago, this is again a great traditional BdM in what is in my eyes the best BdM vintage together with the 2010 in the last couple of decades. Very aromatic and clean, great delineation, somewhat drying tannins that might or might not soften before the fruits starts to fade, long finish. Can drink now but will certainly last another decade or two
PS: Forgot the remaining half full bottle recorked on the kitchen table at 25C+ over night and was hence worried this could be oxidized the next day. However no such signs whatsoever after being open for 10h at room temperature. Long life ahead as all the 06 BdM I have had so far.

Prior bottle was nearly 4 years ago and this wine continues to show well. Red cherry, red berries, earth and leather on the nose. Remains between medium and full bodied with the red cherry notes upfront retaining good brightness. Mid-body continues to integrate, showing a touch more depth and a bit more roundness with adding some tart red cherry and darker plum notes. Backside retains acidity and tannin based structure along with the higher toned, tart red fruit. Minerals, spices and floral qualities on the finish. While this wine has certainly come together as I'd hoped, it hasn't taken that extra step to justify the score I originally gave it. It has the structure to continue to age and perhaps show some additional modest improvements. However, it fell a touch short of the balance, harmony and depth I was looking for. Make no mistake, this is a very good wine, well worth the price, but a slight step down from the heights I originally imagined it would climb. I will try my next bottle in Summer/Fall 2021.

Here is another Brunello '06 that is really singing. It took 2006 a long time to come together, but it certainly has now. This was a lovely, complex wine with really excellent notes of spice, earth, and leather on the nose. I spent a long time taking it in before finishing the last glass.

Pnp and drank over 2 nights. Surprised by some of the mediocre scores here. This is a wonderful traditional Brunello like so many in this great vintage requiring patience. Initially fairly tannic, this opens up and softens with about 45 min of air. Floral notes, dry red fruit, earth and herbs. Beautifully aromatic and light footed. Can start drinking now with some air or hold for a few more years. 92-93

This wine always has a special place in my heart, as my dad gifted a bottle of the ‘95 to us to share when our first child was born in ‘99. This ‘06 benefitted from 90 min. in the decanter. It was a good wine, if not a show stopper. Cleanly made and true to type. Drink or hold.
Very enjoyable, drinking well now but probably at the start of its prime drinking window so it will definitely go for several more years. Very well balanced, nice nose and palate.

Prior bottle opened was June 2014. The wine has evolved and is in good balance. Floral nose with some bramble and plum..Medium to full bodied. Tannins have been tamed and the acidity is fantastic. Tart cherry, plum, tobacco and cedar. Will go on for another 7-8 years. Stored at 57 degrees and opened 1 hr before consumption. Improved over next hour. Recommend decanting.

Prior bottle was almost 18 months ago and this wine has evolved as I'd hoped over that time. Opened two hours ahead of time and showed quite well and continue to improve over the next three hours after that. Red cherry, red berry, floral and earth on the nose. Between medium and full bodied and the biggest change with this wine is it's much smoother and rounder through the middle now, much more balanced and the fruit and structure are much better integrated. Bright red cherry upfront, smoothing and deepening into red berry, plum and then bright strawberry and tart cherry. Finishes with floral, earth, minerals and good structure both tannic and acidic. As well as this wine showed, given the time it needed to be open ahead and the current structure/fruit balance, I think it should continue to improve with additional cellar time with peak still to come. Unlike some brunellos, this is one which will reward patience.

This wine achieved 2nd in the monthly tasting. It is classic Brunello and classic Nardi. Leather and earth with a little mustiness. Bright fruit with a clean, silky smooth tannic finish. A little sausage and cheese brings one to a place of great contentment.

Brunello dinner (at Moshe Zuker): red-brown colour Nice tertiary-earthy aromas with notes of red cherry, tobacco and leather on the nose. Medium bodied, firm tannins, well structured, fruity flavours, red cherry with plum and strawberry), develops nicely in the glass. Long enjoyable finish, overall solid mouth-coating qualities. This wine will continue to improve over the next few years.

This is another of the '06 Brunello's that are in a very good place. I don't know why the scores are so low for this wine, as I found it to be a Brunello of excellent Sangiovese character. Beautifully balanced acid and tannin levels. Mid-palate was very smooth and the finish was exceedingly long. The nose had a good play between the earthy leather and the cool berry aromas.

Red cherry, tobacco and leather on the nose. Medium bodied with outstanding tannic structure throughout. Lots of red cherry upfront, backed with plum and strawberry. Deepens and smooths over time. Finish is good length and the wine overall has solid mouth-coating qualities. Strengths of this wine were the balanced fruit and the tannic structure which the wine managed to pull over without becoming too drying or astringent. I believe this wine should continue to improve over the next few years based on the fruit and structure. Glad I waited until now to open my first bottle.

Consumed with the '07. The '06 was much more closed even after an hour decant. Opened to tart cherries, spice and tobacco. Tannins were raging and acidity was very nice. Much less approachable than the '07 at this point but was so, so good. Has a long future.

I really liked this - for the first hour, then it closed down and nail polish aromas waded in. Seems like it's got the structure, balance and beauty to age, and the first glass was flat out delicious, but when it shut down, and withdrew, it was rather unforgiving, and not very pleasant. Brickish red on the pour. Aroma and palate of sweet fruit with a hint of spicy orange, and tobacco. Firm tannins and mouthwatering acidity. Nice length. A winner.

Orange-brick color; Savory notes with ripe cherry and spice; nicely aromatic with orange zest; mouth has gravelly minerality; sweet tangy red fruits, fine ample earthy tannins in the back; vibrant acidity, still fresh with lots of character. Well balanced in an elegant style.

Bright, medium to deep garnet with slight orange rim. Very much typical sour cherry, chalk, mineral, pencil lead. On the palate it is a brooding wine that isn't that accessible; fresh tingly acidity, fine gravelly texture, medium concentration, with a denser tannic finish that feels like sour cherry skins. It has power without depth and weight and a grip that may yield with time in bottle. There is also a hint of VA which annoys. Flavours are leather, hints of tar, fleshy, round red fruits - cranberry, boysenberry—medium length.

Tasted after a brief decant. Color looked a bit tawnier than I'd expect at its young age. Wine came off as fairly light, and not much more impressive than an OK Chianti. The nose was plenty earthy and there were the expected red fruits, but it just all didn't come together for me with the refinement or impact I'd expect from a Brunello.

Dry, medium(-) acidity, medium ripe and soft tannins, medium alcohol and body. Medium(+) flavours of dark cherries, cocao, oak, and mineral notes. This is on the thin side, but fruit is not completely absent. There is a decent backbone to the wine, but I tend to agree with many posters here that this wine is not "all that"--at least at this point in its young life. I don't really see how Tanzer would score this a 94.

Pretty disappointing wine. Popped an poured initially and the wine was thin, rough, overoaked and nothing like Brunello. Felt very modern in a bad way. I followed it over the course of two nights and although the wine filled out slightly and began to show some more charm, the rough tannins and oak remained prominent. There are some herb and anise flavors in this wine with a little bitter chocolate, but the fruit is just disappointing. How this wine's fruit turned out so hollow given the amazing vintage conditions is beyond me. It's an OK drinker of a wine, but nothing special.

A bunch of Brunellos: I liked this much more than the group. Ruby in color, clear and bright. The nose is very tight. Eventually it shows floral notes, cherries and anise. Lush texture. Cherries, with tannins turning to sour cherries on the finish. Very nice.

Pretty hard to assess at this stage. Pretty closed. Best nose was when I first popped the cork showing profuse fresh berries and spice at that point. Nose went into its shell shortly after that. Palate showing cedary raspberry flavors and not much else. Seems well balanced but in need much cellar time. I was hoping for clear sign I should buy more but I couldn't judge the potential very well over the 3 hours I had it open. Popped and poured 2 glasses immediately in Reidel BDXs. No decant and doubt it would have mattered.

AP's Birthday (Marcus Wareing @ The Berkeley): Half bottle. Decanted around 75 mins before drinking. A wonderful match with venison accompanied by chocolate ganache. Mellow, eathy, some chocolate, a touch of meat, good tannin albeit softening, fresh and reasonably long. Very harmonious. ****

To say a Chianti tastes like a Brunello is a complement. To say a Brunello tastes like a Chianti, well that is not a good thing. Color was very light with that reddish brown you see in Sangiovese, even when young. On the nose was the sour cherries but I did not detect any earthiness that I look forward to in a BdM. On that palate this wine was tart with rough tannins. Maybe it was too young but not impressed at this price. This was shipped during a heat wave so I suspect some heat damage.

I Cinquant'anni del Brunello delle Tenute Silvio Nardi (Hotel Cavalieri Hilton, Rome): Anteprima. Ruby, clear. Closed to start, but opened with sweet fruitiness and clean earthiness – nice. On palate, very savoury, with big minerality (almost salty), good earthiness, some mint/eucalyptus; lowish acidity for a Brunello, good/firm tannins. Reasonably long, complex, and balanced.

Very nice.

c'est un bon brunello d'entrée de gamme, mais < ce prix, je préfère bien d'autres avant celui-là
carafé 2 heures et demi, ce fût tout de même un peu mince.

Nice deep plum, black cherry, licorice, orange peel, great savory notes; rich, velvety body, very nice balance of tannins/acidity, excellent

The nose showed red berries, potpourri, tobacco and spice. On the palate, I found a soft structure with red fruits. The finish was long, yet I found this Brunello to be lacking some stuffing.
