I was pleased with this bottle. In my opinion the wine has held up well and exhibited many of the classic characteristics of a good Chianti with a few years of age. It is a nice wine with food. I see no reason for further aging.

The main difference between 09 and 07 is that 07 is a bit warmer and 09 is very very classic (I am being told). '09 will be a vintage that matches 99, 85, 79 and 64. With some of the aged funk of Sangiovese on it. But in a very tasty way. The palate is dynamite. Lively, juicy, rich. Very delicious indeed. Not in that dark brunello like way.

Not totally sure about this. Nice, quite refined fruit, but it seems to have some oak toast notes. Does this get barrique? Surely not. But whatever it is needs a little time to integrate, and even then it is possibly in too plush a style. I think I prefer the much more rustic Vetrice Rufina.

Light in color. Soft and fruity, with red cherry, ripe raspberry character and some smoky earth notes. Medium-bodied, finishes up on the bitter side. Nowhere near the 06 - JD84

Much more forest floor and mossy than I remember. I think the bottle must be flawed. Foresty and pine neddle. I really don't remember this bottle being this way.

Toscan wines (mostly blind): (tasted blind, no decant) Much lighter than the rest of the wines in the tasting. Not much on the nose except some minty hints. On the palate light with hints of coffee liquor and bitter finish. After few hours it improved slightly, maybe it should have been decanted. The score reflect the initial tasting.85-86

Just delicious wine. Light colour but plenty of rustic sour cherry charm. Brillaint food wine. Have 2 bottles of Bucerchiale (04&06) which I am looking forward to based on this wine

Chianti Rufina - 21 ratings (Ravenna - Holyday Inn): Pale ruby red, with brick-red rim; not very appealing seems almost passed. Medium smell, with flowery notes (wild rose) and fruity (red fruits) then some unpleasant note (game, fur). Dry, tannic and after all equilibrated, also if some acidity is missing. Intense, persistent and medium fine taste. TWA 88; 13,5%

Good honest chianti which, although not quite as memorable as previous bottle, was still a lovely food wine. Sour cherries abound with a slight medicinal edge, racy acidity and developed tannins. Will this evolve further?...not sure (and who cares as great now). Great with pork & beef ragu (obviously!) and a wine that brings joy to my old world heart!!....reminds me of an afternoon spent in a small cafe in Ruffina 5 years ago where we ate local salamis, cheeses and drank local chianti from unlabbled bottles..

Aromas of barnyard and saddle over plum and spice. Palate has a dusty taste of cherry and leather, lingering flavors of licorice and cherry. A good, true to type, chianti at a reasonable price. I was beginning to give up hope that such a thing existed.

Black spice and definate purity to the wine. No dark fruit but noticebly of a different tune than Isole and Coltibono (or Felsina for that matter). How interesting. Dark fruit but clear, with great vitality. Maybe a slight strain of medicinal. The purity and griup of this fruit is striking in a delightful way.

Popped and poured; in glass 30 minutes. Quite light (proper) color; kind of a dirty, orangish garnet. Very nice nose of crushed volcanic rock, graphite, sweet and sour cherry, some pumice, and every once in a while, a tiny mushroom. Light in body, but very soft and soothing on the palate, showing bright red fruits (strawberry and cherry), soil, nice dry tannins, and no hard edges. Finish is spicy, drying, showing very nice elegance with rocks and strawberries. This is definitely the best Selvapiana since the 2004. It's much lighter than that vintage, but it certainly has the tannins.

Very nice, and improved nicely in the glass. Not conentrated or showing strong fruit, but with pleasant herbal and rustic notes and a decent finish.

Dusty, earthy notes on the nose, medium fruit and tannins with a very long finish. OK wine but there are better chiantis in this price range.

12/7/09: Lighter, more elegant style of Chianti. 87-88
