Bottle in excellent shape with less than 1 cm of ullage, and no signs of amber on edge. Drinking perfectly now with a good balance of fruit and tertiary notes. Nose a bit atypical in more dark fruit than most Pinot. Very big PN and wonderful balance. Excellent bottle of wine but not one I would identify as PN -- may have even called it a top So. Rhone?

This was the first Aubert I've consumed and I'd be happy to have more. Style is very similar to Peter Michael Le Caprice, which I also really enjoy. Lots of dark fruit and very pleasant nose to finish, even on a short decant. I think with more decant time (only about 30 mins and from a 1.5L) this would have been even better.

I don't know if we just happen to catch this particular bottle at the absolute height of it's drinking period, but the only other California Pinot we ever scored this high was the 2009 Marcassin Vineyard. This was a perfect pairing with grilled pork chops, just delicious! Tons of rich, concentrated black fruits, black raspberries, black cherries, plums, currants, and earthiness in the nose and flavor. An elegant pinot noir, perfectly balanced, with nice complexity, and a long lingering smooth finish. I had high expectations when we opened this bottle, but those expectations were far exceeded. Wow!

Blind Tasting...Wines That Don't Suck (House of Nanda - Chicago IL): Tasted double blind. Clearly New World Pinot with its ultra ripe character, but this also showed good balanced structure and charming combination of sweet and savory spice. I am rarely a fan of Aubert Pinot Noir, but tonight's was very enjoyable, even if not such a good value wine.

Blind. Pretty clearly New World on the nose with sweeter raspberry and cherry notes with a healthy dose of spice. The palate has good richness and intensity to the riper and sweeter fruit. Reasonably balanced. Was very surprised by both the age and producer. Holding on well, if a bit heavy for my preferences.

"Wines that don't suck" (Chicago, IL): Served double blind. Probably new world pinot, based on that hint of orange peel on the nose, as well as the black cherry and mild dose of earth. It's definitely a very big wine, but seems to hold its alcohol well; there's a fair bit of spice as well that adds some complexity. Not my generally preferred style, but this isn't the worst example of pinot I could come up with.

This was missing until it was found. How do you lose a magnum? Past the ostensible drinking window by a year, I opened it for a dinner party, did not decant but let it sit with the cork out for 2 hours. The cork seemed a bit loose, but smelled fine. Five drinkers with cocktails and white wine (Kosta Browne 2013 Chard-I didn't have any) first. Poured from the bottle to accompany a David Chang style pork butt. OMG! Much lighter than the 2008 Reuling I poured when this was gone. Reticent nose of cherries, cedar and funk. Great legs in the glass. This was so much more sophisticated on the palate than most Auberts, which tend to be among the larger style pinots. No extraction at all, tannins fully resolved, sweet, smooth red fruit and not a hint of alcohol. Long finish. I have had burgundies at three times the price that did not show as well. The guests agreed and the magnum was gone before the food. Opened the 2008, which had a higher rating and it was a much more typical of Auberts-a big wine with alcohol and extracted flavors. After the magnum nobody paid any attention. I would say drink now to those who still have bottles of this wine.

Unlike Allen Meadows who scored this wine 77 points, I loved this wine. Meadows says that the warmth overpowers the finish and compromises the balance - I didn't detect warmth in this wine; perhaps because of six additional years of age. It is without doubt a rich, ripe wine - nothing subtle about it. But that's what I was looking for, and I was rewarded.

Big, rich, ripe, sweet, concentrated wine. No one would mistake this for a Burgundy - if one likes Allen Meadow-style subtle Pinots, steer clear of this. It's a gorgeous wine that needs at least six hours in the decanter, at which time everything comes together in harmony. I have another bottle that I could hold for several more years, but why postpone the pleasure?

A big ripe extracted style, yet well balanced wine. Showy with nice baking spices. Still quite fruit forward with warm mixed blueberry, strawberry, and cherries. A touch of heat and a hint of age, but otherwise a nice acidic streak profiles a pleasant lift. Good weight and long finish. Big enough to hold up to a steak, yet able to complment salmon nicely as well.

Drank at Thanksgiving lunch with the usual accompaniments. Not in the same league as the 2 standard 750ml bottles of this I previously drank over the last couple years. Not bad, but not the exuberant open for business style the others had. Rather tannic and lacking smoothness. I think this was either an off bottle or just far less evolved due to the magnum format. While I think it would be easy to conclude the latter, my instinct is that the bottle was not stored properly by the previous owner.

This is of the bigger PN camp. The aromatic and fruit profile both reflected that style, especially in contrast as it sat next to a Kutch SC and ABC Isabelle Morgan. The wine tended more towards the syrupy side, with a powdery aromatic, black fruit and spice cake. There is acid here, which for me saves the wine from being too much. In broad terms, I'd rather drink the Kutch but I do know there are folks that like this Aubert style, but it's just not my thing.

Amazing that I finally found one I liked! I have long been a fan of Aubert, and remain on the list, despite the fact that almost every one I have ends up disappointing me some, usually because the high alcohol always comes off as unbalanced, ruining the otherwise great fruit. Perhaps it is just a bit more age that I need to allow, as this one was excellent. Huge black and blue fruits, a myriad of spice and some wet earth. Yes, big...very big, both mouthfeel and alcohol, though this time the alcohol remained a supporting cast member that played its role. A big role, to be sure, but it was as it should be, just one component of many, nicely integrated.

Drank from magnum, which was decanted and drunk over 1 hour period. Wine has a beautiful ruby color with a big nose of cinnamon, blueberries and some earth. The wine is incredibly smooth and delicious. Great fruit, smooth spice and a long long finish that had everyone asking for more. One of the best cali pinots that I have had in years. At peak right now and likely to stay there for some time.

does anyone else get the spritz in these auberts? can almost smell it and certainly feel it on the tongue. while not off putting it is a different palate feel. this was up against a marcassin for comparison. nice red fruit is definitely there. little acid imbalance felt mostly on the palate. heat is there as well. touch of spice but lost a little. maybe i am trying to say this wine was awkward tonight. finish ok but not memorable.

A lovely wine. Garnet in the glass with a frangrant nose of blossom, fruit and spice. There is almost a silky texture that coats the tongue. This wine is in complete balance providing an integrated melange of pinot flavors that are in harmony from start to lingering finish.
This bottle disappeared literaly in minutes and was followed by an 07 Aubert UV and then a 06 Kistler La Bodega, neither of which had the magic of the Reuling.

Exceptional wine. Popped and poured and this was amazing immediately. Incredibly balanced with bright, fresh fruits. Silky smooth. Incredibly easy to get lost in this glass. Decanted for 3 hours prior. Nose of cherry and strawberry with a earthiness and meatiness throughout. Palate is not as sweet as other Aubert's I've had, decent structure but a bit too much wood at the tail end. It drinks very well, and if the wood integrated more it would be much better for me.

Good juice, but not great and a squeeze at this price point. Dark brick / cranberry color with heady nose of cooked red fruit and cinnamon (think of the aroma of homemade fruit cake), with a prominent herbaceous backbone and something faintly reminiscent of flint or gun smoke. Soft and lush on the palate. Bright, juicy raspberries overly a mid-palate of basil and perhaps black licorice. Fresh, tight acidity and, at 15.6 percent, beautifully integrated heat (as in, I hardly taste it). With rounded, almost grainy tannins, this wine is structurally very Burgundian (save the alcohol), though still as ripe and rich as you'd expect from a California pinot. Without a doubt: wonderfully crafted and meticulously made.

They say breeding is everything and this is certainly well bred. It seems to be all up-front candied fruit with a lingering aftertaste of vanillin. I have no experience with these wines so maybe it really has shut down as Tanzer expected but to me it seems simple, round, smooth, and short on the mid-palate with a popscicle stick finish. Does it need time to integrate? I don't know; does Coca-Cola need time to integrate? Personally I find it cloying--a wine for the CC generation. Sorry I spent the money.

Nose of ripe raspberries, floral notes and some spice. Palate was so rich and lushly textured -- expansive in the mouth. Light to moderate acidity with low tannins. More complex than I was expecting but this is a delicious, ripe, CA pinot -- no one would confuse this for a burg but enjoy it for what it is! Went well with mild and slightly spicy sushi.

Loved this wine. I wonder if the professional note was biased by the vintage, because if this wine had come in a "poor" vintage, I'm sure it would have gotten a screaming score. Definitely Pinot Noir, but not a PN for the faint-of-heart. Dark, rich, lush, velvety, and mouth-coating, but providing the cherry, cola, and hard spice I often associate with Pinot Noir. This is very approachable now, but I'd guess it will improve some and would be even better in a couple years. (PE: 97)

Multilayered and complex with waves of flavors ranging from subtle hints of cherry, strawberry, and blueberry (all of the darker richer variety) mixed with cedar, pine straw, moss, and wood bark. Gives the clear impression it will be different in 1 year.

Initially I thought this might be a syrah; you could detect even some bacon on the nose. After it opened up for a while it was delicious. Probably a long time before I open the rest of mine.

Fruit bomb. Well integrated. A year more would put it in a really nice place

Beautiful wine; great nose, aromatic and compelling; taste was red fruit and gorgeous; mouth feel was complete. What a beautiful wine.

Balanced and lush with nice fruit. Still needs time to come together and mellow. Score will definitely increase with age.

Royal purple. Rich, full and complex. Less of the straw, moss and wood of 6 months ago, turning more to dark fruits. Very plush and decadent.

tasted blind against the uv. much brighter, deeper fruit - black cherry, strawberry. palate was nicely rounded with fruit and hint of floral and earth. no heat. bigger, brighter finish still a tad short, though. nicely done. group average - 94.5
