  • Brought to Il Mulino AC. No way is this past its prime. Perhaps it was going through a dumb phase from 2019 - 2022, but in 2023 this was singing. Seven years after my last bottle with one to go.

  • I don’t agree this is past prime - it’s nicely fragrant of black cherry, has some tannin to structure the fruit, and has a lot of iron-fillings minerality. Some herbs, too. There’s some vanilla oak but not too much oak tannin. This is way riper than my usual cup of tea, but it’s good fruit and well made, and it’s a nice change of pace.

  • Past its prime. Flat cola. Short finish Drink up.

  • This was enjoyable but I agree with the commenters saying this is nearing or past the end. Most of what is left is oak. If anyone is hanging onto any, I’d recommend getting to work.

  • last bottle, 4 years after my prior. Developed nicely but still plenty of life. Big wine, still a touch to big for me at 15%, but it wears the ABV pretty well. Lots of sediment at bottom, so be careful.

  • this was 5 of 6 bottles and I have progressively liked each bottle better. it has peaked but has a year or two left before decline. Very round and smooth. A good mid week wine.

The wine looks ruby colored. The legs are medium. There is no sediment in the bottle. It smells like mushroom and medium toast. It tastes like violet and almond. The body is medium/full. The wine has smooth texture. The wine finishes medium.

  • Very dark purple red color. PNP, drank a couple glasses over 2.5hrs. Fun nose with blue and black fruits, quite aromatic and sultry with blueberry, boysenberry and blackberry, tobacco, and spiced black cherry. The palate is well concentrated with full body, and a cornucopia of blueberry, ripe cassis, boysenberry and blackberry; the tobacco note is strong and distinct, along with complimentary, grainy tannins, silky on the mouthfeel, spiced finish. Yes, this is a wine with plenty of fruit, extracted, yes; that was the style. But at the same time, it is one of the better examples of the style. I always rant about balance, and this has got some balance. All of that fruit is contained by the grainy tannins and silky texture along with a good acid and a well done oak treatment. At no point is the 15.0 ABV noticeable. You could never quite say those things for the '08 version of this. And while I wouldn't rush out to buy this anymore, it was a great pairing with our grilled NY Strips and grilled veggies. I was very pleased with how it was holding up, and I think if anyone still has these they will hold for several more years easily. My Dad loved this, gave it a solid 93 for him. AFWE stay away, this will taste too good.

  • Last of a few bought back in the day from WTSO. Pretty sure this was made by TRB. Deep, dark, extracted, pretty one dimensional fruit profile over substantial tannins. I'd have been mad at myself if I had purchased this at release price, as is meh+

  • Great fruit on the nose. Wasn't sure if it was a shiraz or a cab because of the big spicy nose. Even once tasted still could've been a shiraz. Gorgeous wine none-the less. I did decant for approx an hour. As the wine sat out it did settle a bit and the cab did come through. I have another and will decant sooner. I haven't seen this bottle in stores for many years now and would love to get more. Highly recommended for the big heavy Cali Cab lovers out there.

  • Simple, fruity, straightforward, lacks complexity. Has not developed in the bottle. Pleasant, and decent value at the $35 fire sale, insane at the $100+ original price.

  • a purchase from a different era of wine buying for me. This is extracted, full bodied, dark ripe fruited wine. There has structure, it even has acidity, but the fruits are so ripe along with mocha, expresso, and sweet cocoa. Not my thing, but not something to dump down the drain either.

  • Dark color
Deep nose of black fruits, black licorice, touch of alcohol
Fine tannin but grippy, high acidity that really adds some zing to the palate and delivers the fruit on this laser like precision.
Interesting to see where this will be in a few years, should drink well for many years.

  • One hour decant. Dark purple with a dark ruby rim in appearance; has a nose of blackberry gelatin, blackberries, black cherries and some cassis infused plums. Black fruits and espresso are prominent on the palate; also getting some black plums and at the end, some sweet black cherries. Medium+ bodied with a medium-long finish. The evolution of this wine since last tasting this in 2011 has been a pleasure to follow. A couple of bottles left in the stash that I will sure to enjoy in the years to come.

  • So integrated. Rounded dark fruit. Soft tannins. Purple clay in bottom of glass by the end of the meal. I think it's time to drink.

  • Popped and poured to celebrate my son taking his USMLE Step I exam. He wanted his kind of wine, which is Scarecrow, but since I am a meanie and wouldn't open a Scarecrow, I picked this. It is REALLY DELICIOUS. An incredible, outstanding wine. Extremely dark with red highlights around the edges. Nose is dark red fruit with plum. Palate still has tanins with red fruit, acidity and, in an odd way, a tiny touch of sweetness on the back of the palate. For a TRB wine, this is actually more sexy than brawny. There are tiny hints of other flavors, like a bit of chocolate, coffee and spice, that I am convinced will flower with some more age. Takes on additional red fruit flavors as it gets some air. Give it an hour or two decant. Long finish. This is no where near its peak. Space out the remaining four bottles over the next decade or so.

  • No rating as I has a sinus problem and couldn't fairly evaluate. Our dinner guests seemed to really enjoy it.

  • Dark purple. Nose of cedar, brush, blackberry, plum and chocolate. Smells very fresh and the palate tastes fresh too. Cedar, medicinal herbs, smoke, brush, cassis and dark cherry and blackcurrant. Definite tannic presence but not overwhelming. Youthful, on one level imposing, yet still quite enjoyable and drinkable. The stated 15% abv also made me wary but no heat was detected and my impression is of a perfectly balanced cabernet. Excellent to Outstanding.

  • Didn't take detailed notes. Part of Christmas dinner party cellar rade. Have not had a Charlie's Patch in quite some time and was excited to see how the 2007 was drinkning and was not dissapointed at all. this has many many years to go.

  • A stellar wine..

7 years old and still going strong. The nose is fresh and youthful today. A huge nose of dark precise fruit and valrhona dark chocolate.

In the mouth, the wine jolts you with the tannins. It's still precociously tight, with a broad-shouldered structure. This wine is built for the long-haul and is not going anywhere anytime soon. Huge extended finish. I detect a hint of syrup, although the wine is not sweet in any way. There is a dusty element to the wine, which adds a touch of complexity on the palette.

This is a great napa cab, with easily another 10 years of runway…

  • Purple red color. PNP, drank 2+ glasses over 2 hours. Nose has dusty ripe black fruit, black currant, blackberry, herbs, oak. The palate is full bodied, concentrated, fairly silky mouthfeel, black currant, blackberry liqueur, subtle choke cherry, tobacco, oak, spice, and dusty medium tannins. Finish is medium. 90+ to 91pts.

  • Aerate to decanter. Color very dark red overloaded with black hues, opaque, full-bodied and inky clings to the glass. A deep whiff floods the nostrils with sun-ripe mashed blackberries, sweet black cherries mixed with graphite, damp soil, and some thick shavings of bittersweet chocolate. The bouquet might for a moment make you feel this is going to be another forgettable over-the-top fruit bomb, but no, there are depth charges of graphite and minerals underneath that add interest. Great big flavors of blackberries, cherries, graphite, dark chocolate and touches of coffee. Medium acid and considerable velvety tannins in a chewy, lengthy mineral-strewn finish. The fruit has calmed down from where it was three years ago, to my memory. We drank this toward the end of the night sitting on the veranda overlooking the water, but it certainly would have went well with a juicy steak. Looking forward to drinking the last bottle in the next couple years, though it can easily go another 5-8.

  • Strong Cali Cab baby. needs time. Intense flavor but rustic despite the strong fruit. All sorts of dark red fruit and earth spices. Strong but not astringent tannins. Too bad this joint venture is gone.

  • An outstanding Cali Cab. This was a joint venture between Michael Twelftree and Thomas Rivers Brown that blew up after the 2008 vintage. Too bad because it was outstanding collaboration. This has great power and depth. Meatyness. Herbs, coffee, some chocolate, earth and red fruit.

  • Oak spice, black cherry, pomegranate, currant. Deep, smooth, slightly sweet currant palate. A perfectly good wine that fails to move me whatsoever. A struggle to finish.

  • Very dark, dense crimson color. Lots of dark fruit, some oak, spice on the nose. Big wine, lots of fruit, borders on too big, but keeps it in check. My 1st of 2 bottles, and this seems pretty youthful to me still. Went well with a steak though, and on its own afterward. Will wait another year or two before I open the other.

  • Big black fruit on the nose with flavors of luscious black cherry. The fruit is almost overdone, but works enough to beckon another sip to figure it out. Hints of graphite and pencil lead somehow come through with a smooth mouthfeel for this full bodied cabernet. This wine left me guessing about it's true colors. I almost want to leave it alone for a while and come back in a few years to see how it has settled out. If you want a deeply rich, fleshy fruit cabernet, this is your bottle. Consistent day 1 to day 2. Score [50 + 5 + 12 + 16 + 8] = 91

  • Took a few hours in the decanter to hit its stride. Throwing lots of sediment so I am wondering about aging potential. I think that I will consume another of my remaining 4 bottles in the next couple of months to see if the sediment is a sign of premature aging. Still, drinking very well now with a great palate and perfumed nose. One notch below my Conn Valley reserves.

  • Thanksgiving Dinner Wines (Our House): Inky purple red color. Decanted for 1 hour. I only had a small pour of this on day one, but those that had this loved it. It was a bit tight when I tried it, brooding, black fruits, blackberry, menthol, spice, oak. The palate was round with medium tannins, black fruits, licorice, oak, and spice on the medium finish. Day 1 was 91+pts. There was enough for a good pour on day two and the evolution was impressive. The fruit had delineated nicely, now showing distinct notes of blackberry, cassis, and black raspberry. There was a strong tobacco note, briary and spice as well. The palate became more velvety and the tannins better integrated. Day 2 was 93pts. This still needs a couple years to evolve.

  • Popped and poured. Medium-plus brilliant dark purple/ruby hue, youthful. Great nose shows blackberry, raspberry, ripe currant, red bean paste, fresh mint, cedar shavings, and high quality toasted oak. Medium-plus body. Flavors on the palate are just lovely and really showcase the gamut of Napa Cabernet fruit flavors from the 2007 vintage...think nicely ripened red and black fruits combined with mint paste, vanilla bean, and spice from toasted oak. The tannins are nicely rounded yet a touch astringent on the moderate-plus close. Drinking in that perfect youthful spot right now but should improve over the short to mid-term and last even longer. Totally TRB.

  • No detailed notes taken. Pop-n-pour this was closed at first, showing tannic and a little hot. With about an hour of air it started to take on some nice cassis, cedar, and eucalyptus notes. A lot of tannin on the finish. This is not as flamboyant as my last bottle and may be starting to shut down.

  • Drank over 3 days. Plenty of black fruit and a lot of oak, but there's enough structure here to soak it up and keep the wood from drying out the mouthfeel. The oak adds a delicious mocha/dark chocolate flavor (oak adding delicious flavors? Normally I hate oak): this sometimes tastes like drinking a blackberry-filled dark chocolate truffle. This is a big, rich, smooth wine, certainly not for the faint-hearted, but it never tastes hot or pruney/overripe or porty. Was best on the 3rd night.

  • A bit cold after pulling from cellar and then drinking straight away but when it warmed slightly it was a viscous fruit bomb that really pleased the pallate and nose as a stand alone drinker.

  • Decanted for 4 hours. Dark purple color and covers the glass when I swirl it. The nose is very beautiful. Sweet black fruits hits the nose right away followed by the minerality of the wine. The alcohol hits the nose at the end. Dark black fruits and cassis with some dark chocolate on the palate. Tannins are noticeable, the oak is not. Very balanced and I will put my other bottles to sleep for a few years. This will only get better.

  • Deep purple color.
Really nice dark fruits and minerality. Great acidity and balance. This is how napa should be. Really pretty fruit but loads of acid and minerality too. Should please the old and new world fans alike. Wish I had bought more than 4

  • Decanted for about an hour at a restaurant. No formal note, but this drank really well. Quite a bit of alcohol on the nose, but nothing obtrusive on the palate. Lots of dark fruits on the nose with a proper amount of acidity providing balance. Wish i had it at home to watch it evolve over more time. Loved it.

  • Opened as part of a tasting. Decanted for two hours, consumed over 3 more. Deep dark color--almost seemed black. Cassis, blackberry, leather pencil shavings. Excellent balance.

  • Dark and ominous, this is viscous and full throttle fruit joy. Black fruits rule but some blue pop in if coaxed. Very dimensional with a balance and focus that is mind boggling when you take into account price paid: $39. My other three notes said it well and are still pertinent. Just a fantastic wine with Thomas' signature depth, structure and overall attraction. One I will miss after I exhaust my other six bottles as I fear they have dried up in the marketplace......

  • this is great wine. will last at least 7-10 years

  • Popped and poured. This was disappointing and nowhere near as good as the previous bottle. Some nice black fruit flavors, but this lacked the density and concentration of fruit the first bottle had, and without the fruit to balance it out, both the tannin and the alcohol stood out unpleasantly. It wasn't terrible, but underwhelming. Didn't get any better on day 2. Shipped/stored/served exactly the same as previously. Just bottle variation? I have one left, so we'll see.

  • unbelievable over-performer for the price. it would be a lot more palatable if all cabs delivered and were priced like this wine. big, concentrated, tannic and chewy with loads of dark fruit, particularly blackberries, cassis, white pepper and lead. big, big, big.

  • Really liking this wine (it reminds me of the Justin Isosceles Reserve I had the other night). A good drink and well integrated now but has the gripping although chewy tannins to last several years. This fruit forward beauty is certainly ripe and dark. Sad to see they have stopped making this wine after a short lived run. It really gives a lot of pleasure for the discounted buck.

  • A big napa cab that gets it just on the right side of the ripeness scale. Lots of dark fruit, with wonderful concentration in the mouth. Sure, the fruit is sweet, and the mouthfeel is a bit lush, but it's not overdone, the oak is restrained, and I didn't get any of that raisiny/pruney character that's a danger with some 07 cabs. It's still rather primary at this point, and there's a bit of heat on the back end, but the finish is long and pure. The alcohol might integrate a little better with time, but it's pretty good right now.

  • Faint nose. Too much heat on the palate, stewed dark fruit a little bit of chocolate. This wine is way over the top and for the price, the worst '07 that I've had by far.

  • decanted 1 hr: Very dark and is literally staining the glass as it swirls. On the nose - Lots of coffee grounds, a dollop of chunky peanut butter, some spice and black fruits. Massive black fruits on the attack, more coffee and maybe espresso. Good mouth feel with round tannins, good acidity, a faint touch of oak, but a little hot on the tail end. Some leather/tobacco/pencil starting to show, which I can only imagine becoming more prominent in the next 5-7 years. There is also a little bit of "gaminess" to this wine both in the nose and on the palate... interesting.

  • Fantastic wine with aging potential. Popped and poured but this wine could be even better with a decant, or perhaps vinturi aeration. Not znywhere near as brawny or brooding as the '05. Beautiful bouquet of black fruits, lavender, and an overlay of eucalytpus. Superb soft tannins but lacking acidity on the back end. Very little, if any, heat, and a luscious velvet mouthfeel. Drink up now or wait another 5 years; either way you're in for a treat.

  • Popped and poured at Ben and Jack's Steakhouse. I drank this directly after a 2006 Saxum Broken Stones. The difference in the flavor profile was clear and distinct. This is obviously cabernet while the other is obviously syrah and grenache. Anyone who says Cali cabernet tastes like syrah has never comared them side by side. There is more meatyness, a bit of saddle leather, and some cocoa/chocolate. A bit of mocha/cocoa. And some vanilla and some earth to blend with the red fruit. Tanins are there but not ferocious despite the youth.

  • Disclaimer: I haven't had many Cabs and I'm still not sure I like the grape. Having said that, this was very good. It has lots of fruit, with coffee flavors most prominent to me. Although the tannins were noticeable, they were fairly smooth. Paired very well with Roquefort cheese.

Decanting the wine didn't seem to make this wine any better as I detected quite a bit of heat as it aired. It took 5 hours of decanting for the wine to be as enjoyable as when it was first opened.

  • I don't know how these guys do it but they definitely can put their stamp on a bottle of wine. I have had a dozen or so bottles from Two Hands and they can really extract the fruit from the grapes. This Napa Cab was so reminiscent of their Lily's Garden Shiraz that it really is quite a feat, to take a different varietal, grown 1/2 a globe away and make it a "Two Hands" wine. I really would like to taste the two winds blind and I think I will save a bottle of each for a tasting because I am writing these notes from memory of the last bottle of Lily's I tasted a few months ago.

Anyway, dark purple, thick viscous wine with a long, long finish that lingers. Smooth soft tannins, I always wonder if these wines will age but find myself drinking them young so who knows. Okay 2015 we will taste the 2007 Charlies Patch Cab vs. the 2007 Lily's Garden Shiraz, stay tuned.

  • Dark, viscous and very opaque, this is all pure black fruits on the nose. Framboise, cassis, Kirsch, blackberry, and more. This holds to the side of the glass upon swirl. Palate has all the same with a lilty balance, medium weighted mouth feel, big chewy tannins, that are well behaved, and just an amazing overall 'feel'. Today this takes on more weight (since I last had it a few months back). It is now more structure and less show. There is some leather, tar, lead pencil and cedar. Finish is long and beautiful.
Dark and glorious, one I can really be proud to call my house wine.

  • Pop and pour. This is consistent with my past note. Its pure, black fruited and almost lush, the vintage is showing through. One that I think will not be as long lived as many others believe. Just a wonderful expressive bottle of Napa Cabernet.

  • pop & pour- Intense color of super garnet, almost opaque, almost black. The nose is pure clean cassis driven with subtle black cherry. The palate has a super silky texture with gobs of black fruit. The currants are there, as is the black cherries. A hint of pomegranate and creme de cassis. More approachable than the '06 at this moment, but twice as elegant and pure. Does not have the viscousness of the '06 either. Beautiful medium to heavy weight plushy mouth feel with linear and coordinated tannins, behaving themselves. A hint of oak, just a hint. Perfect balance and a pretty good finish to boot. When a wine taste this good, what is the upside for the 5-10 year sleep? Its pure hedonistic indulgence brings a smile this birthday weekend.

  • This is a beautiful wine that competes at the top of the Cali cab world. Huge with vanilla, creme de casis, typical big boy lusciousness, and gobs of fruit. Fortunately it is balanced by plenty of acidity and a good amount of tannic structure. It drinks well now, but I expect it to be outstanding in a few years as the acidity, tannins, and fruit all come into even better balance. I was pleased to find no discernible overt alcohol on the palate which I have found often on the big Cali cabs in general. The wine is in balance. I look forward to putting this into blind tastings! It's too bad this is the last vintage.
