Good depth here but this bottle was just a bit past peak. Not as good as the bottle from the week prior, although this undoubtedly suffered from a comparison to a great '08

La Paulée de NY Gala Dinner (Pier 60 - NYC): Something weird going on here with a peanut type aroma. Palate was better but not close to what this should be (particularly following a stunning 2000).

Interesting. At first felt a smelt a bit advanced and showed oxidative notes, but with time in glass it gained frehness and depth. Nice creamy nuttiness with mineral acid finish. Did not have complexity and length of best bottles of this but still delicious and special.

Nose is simply brilliant showing a mature and rich wine in the glass. Layers of apples, butter, popcorn, smoky warm minerals and a touch of ocean. Palate is very rich, fat, with fine apples, ripe lemons, creamy chalky minerals, butter and fat nuts. Just brilliant, what a treat! Nobody does it better.

Good depth with old vanilla notes, oyster shell, and light mint on the nose. More rounded palate than the '00. Moderate acid but good energy on the finish and a light nuttiness. Drink now. 93-94

Coche, Coche, Coche - maybe the most idiosyncratic and easily identified in all of Gaul. Fortunately, a perfectly sound bottle (purchased on release). Thick as EVOO, lush as a chocolate truffle. Buttered popcorn, sweet as honey yet somehow still dry. Almost massive enough to break the wine glass yet somehow not at all tropical or over oaked. Miraculous, and able to hold up to the egg noodles with fresh truffles, truffle butter and truffle oil.

Greg thought this bottle was hopelessly oxidized but I cannot agree. True, it was meek on the nose, but rich and luscious on the palate in that Coche way. Brown butter and lightly toasted nuts. Thick and rich. Enjoyable, at least to me, but a single, not a home run in Coche terms.

Lunch at Troisgros (Roanne, France): Good fruit but somewhat muted, but not quite to the degree of the Coche-Dury 02 Caillerets in the next glass. Hmmm.

Obviously another in the string of hyper-rich and luscious Coche MPs. Still too young but the Coche signature was obvious. Impossible not to like and will be even better in a few years if it doesn't oxidize.

Reductive Coche character / signature. Another addictive wine of which I can’t seem to get my nose out of the glass. Long on the palate with a creaminess, liquid butter. Rock ridden, waxy… Honey. Long and SUPER intense.

This is a very conservative score for what I hope and expect to be a great wine. But for now, it's light in color and reluctant to yield aromas such as yellow fruit and wax. Very gradually over the course of 3 hours, it filled out, became richer and showed a hint of that Coche signature popcorn. I'm glad it's not oxidized but it's really too soon to be opening a sound Coche Perrieres from even a forward vintage like 2002.

Unequivocally the best corked wine I’ve had this year. A faint whiff of tca is annoying but this wine is super dense with a piercing/chalky quality to the palate and so much muscle and drive with an amazing length of flavour.

a bit musty. And dirty. But palate fine. Good acidity. And roasted nuts

Gorgeous bottle. Mature and layered palate, still with abundant energy. Classic Coche nose.

La Paulée de New York Gala Dinner (Pier Sixty, Chelsea Piers - New York NY): Small glass, brief note. I found this slightly odd with nearly dirty aromas and coming across almost like glue. At least to me and a few of our group. Others liked it.

Coche Arbor 4. Felt shy, maybe dumb phase? Step down from 2005 and 1996. (1967)
