Cork was still good. Color and aroma are still excellent. Paired very well with a meal of medium rare tri-tip beef, buttered yam, and broccoli. The wine looks garnet colored. The legs are medium. There is no sediment in the bottle. It smells like blackberry and blueberry. It tastes like blackberry and blueberry. The body is medium/full. The wine has smooth texture. The wine finishes medium. What a nice surprise! Very upfront pleasable wine. Much to like here! Still dark, muted color and, initially, nose of black fruit and licorice hiding behind some Rutherford dust/earth. Powerful dark fruit taste with blackberry, plums, some licorice and rhubarb, big in taste but with tannins nicely integrated (but certainly not fully resolved). Medium finish. Drink or hold (in a perfect cellar).

This is dark blood, and licorice, and deep black blueberry, and rich ripe green sweet pepper, and Rutherford dust. The fruit is powerful, rich, fully satisfying and well offset with searing acid and ripe tannin. This bottle -appears- slightly plummed and with thinning edges, but the concentration and long finish are indisputable. It would be difficult to dislike this wine, unless you indulge in denying yourself pleasure. It is essentially "at peak" now, unless you enjoy somewhat older wines (which is perfectly acceptable).

Second bottle in a row with cork deterioration, but the wine was still enjoyable. Well balanced and delicate for a Cali Cab. Cherry, rhubarb, blackberries with hit of vanilla. Medium bodied with round tannins.

Drinking at peak, this is all about its round, soft, blackberry, vanilla, thyme and black cherry jam character. Easy to drink, and even easier to like, this is a nice wine, and not at all out of balance. The bottle was popped and poured. The wine was made from a Bordeaux Left Bank blend of 93% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Cabernet Franc, 2% Merlot, and 2% Petit Verdot.

Pulled my 1.5 for Christmas dinner. Delicious cabernet drinking very nicely. If this wine was oaky in its youth, the wood has left. Tannins are gone, great fruit remains, decent acidity, very tasty. Wonderful match to roasted prime rib.

At ten years of age, this is likely at the apex of its drinking profile and will not likely improve further with more aging, but don't be in a hurry as it will hold for several more years.
Dark garnet colored, medium-full bodied, full blackberry and black cherry fruits were accented by tones of cassis, mocha, leather, and hints of graphite and smoke with smooth supple tannins on the finish.
Beautiful chocolate, cherry notes. Pertectly balanced and drinking beautifully right now. Medium body & not highly extracted as some might like. this is a beautiful representation of a Napa Cab that Grgich has done for so long now. This wine never disappoints me

This is in it's window right now and drinking beautifully. A dark core of cassis, graphite, leather, and black cherry. Well balanced and has a beautiful nose. Medium bodied and not over the top. Exactly what I'd hoped for from a 10 year old Napa Cab. Great QPR. Drink now-2018. But I'd suggest enjoying them now, as I can't imagine much improvement.

Popped & poured w/in 10 min, no decant, bottle just slightly cooler than room temp. Nose: Very nice, with vegetable notes & also earthy. Palate: absolutely gorgeous - huge velvety mouthful, rich dark fruit core with hints of smoke, coffee. Later, after a bit of air, got just a quick hint of cherry menthol on the finish. Wish I had taken notes during consumption & will next time. This was one of the best wines I've had recently, outstanding. Glad I have 2 bottles left and think they will drink well anytime over the next year or two.

Color: deep ruby Nose: plum, vanilla and cherry Taste: plum, anise, black cherry This is drinking quite nicely now. Favors are well integrated, with and initial taste of black cherry and blackberries followed by plum then anise. Firm tannins, but not gripping. Lingering finish. Well made. Not an oak monster, not really any oak properties detected other than a shot of vanilla on the nose. This bottle has a lot of sediment.

This cab has changed alot from my previous experience 11/10. The color and nose are still excelent however the acid has disappeared, making it a predominantly fruit foreward cab. Overall, it went well with burgers from the grill and the Super Bowl, but it was not as strong as I had remembered.

(A-) Beautiful nose of cherries, spice box, and oak. The acid has resolved a bit I think, and the fruit character is emerging - cherries, a bit of plum, and cassis. Plenty of Rutherford character, with grainy tannins, yet still drinks very smooth.

This wine was disappointing based on expectations. The nose was complex and interesting, predominantly of dark fruit, The taste however, was very rustic, with fruit leading it heavy tannins and harshness that did not dissipate, even though the wine was decanted and consumed over the course of 3 nights. I do not see the wine improving over time.

decanted for almost 2 hours and it was still super tight. Dark, inky color and strong hints of oak, plum, and dark cherry on the nose with some vanilla and cedar as well. Superb wine but needs more time. Need to find more and lay it down for a bit.

I love this wine. Blueberry and plum on the palette, dried fruit on the nose, extremely well integrated tannins. I was going to give this a higher rating but at 95 I am higher than all other reviews. One of the best values in wine available.

I had this bottle in companion to two other fantastic wines over a great pasta night (The Prisoner & Larkmead Cab) so the score might not be as fair as if we only had this wine by itself but i must say that unfortunately it was a bit disappointing specially seeing everybody else's scores. The Larkmead was the night's favorite followed closely by The Prisoner.
This was complex but not well balanced, a bit to much acidity on the palate. Hopefully the other bottles I have of this turn out better.

Inky violet purple. Generous, structured, full bodied notes of black fruit, cassis, menthol, cocoa, anise, and a whiff of tobacco. Glides effortlessly across the palate, where youthful tannins add heat to a kick of capsicum on the finish. Polished and expressive, this has great energy and potential.

A great night of Mike Grgich wines, first the Chard then this lovely Cab, it was so intense, yet with nuances of elegance, really special - Dark, full bodied with a nose of blackfruit, plum, mocha, cedar and vanilla, awesome structure, complexity, intensity, yet good balance even with almost 15% alc, dusty, yet sweet on the palate with excellent length, awesome! (93 Points).

Opened up for 2 hours to let the wine fully breathe. The first smell was tobacco and wheat with a hint of honey. We headed off to our new home for our first hot tub letting the wine sit. The wine was consumed with a meal of NY Strip drizzled with melted blue cheese, spinach, salad and potatoes. The wine was everything you would expect. Smooth, silky, sweet with flavors that lingered.

Really expected this to be better. Very complex, pleasing nose and a delightful, dark color. But there's a hint of alcohol in the nose as well, and this carries over to the taste. There's a lot of fruit here, but there's also a harshness, and what seems to be a hint of rubbing alcohol and bitterness on the finish. I drank this over the course of five hours, and instead of developing it seemed to regress. Doesn't seem to be much underlying structure, and it's a bit lacking in acidity. I would have to disagree with those who think this wine will improve with further aging; just doesn't seem to have much stuffing or balance. Paid something like $50 for this, and really tried to like it, but I honestly don't think it's any better than a lot of $8 or $10 grocery store Cabs. A big thumbs down on this one.

This Cab has a blackish-purple color. the nose is muted fruit. The mid palate is dense and chewy with vanilla, oak and casis. Finish is strong with not overpowering tannins. I had this with Elk steaks and it was superb! It will probably get a little better over the next 2 years, so hold em if you got em.

Tried this in a 375 since they had a good deal at my local grocery. Nothing off-putting. Very restrained nose - seems mostly shut down at this time. Faint cassis and vanilla in the background. Light bodied and austere. No finish. Not sure if this improves with age. General impression overpriced & overrated.

89 rating does not accurately reflect potential of this wine. This will likely improveover the next 5 years. Opened an hour before drinking, Dark red almost purple color. Very heavy with cedar, tobacco and red fruits. This was what I expected from this wine. It never really opened up, leading me to believe this needs another two to five years to be at its best.

Thanksgiving Dinner (Dietra's House, Portland OR): Steve's wine, no decant. This one wasn't as enjoyable as the 2005 Groth or 2005 BV Georges de Latour. Seemed somewhat closed in comparison. Cherry fruit with lots of earthiness and cedar wood. Enjoyable, but not as much as I had expected.

Napa Valley, July 2009; 7/9/2009-7/11/2009 (Napa Valley, CA): The wine smells like deep dark cherries buried under a pine forest floor. Cedar scents, more than oak, come through with a slight hint of eucalyptus. When tasted, the wine has a bright clean start with clear flavors that run all the way through the experience. Plums show up on the mid palate, and run out to the end along with some enjoyable tannins. The acidity and plum flavors last for thirty seconds or more. The wine is lighter and cleaner than the typical cabernet sauvignon that I've experienced. Solid wine.

My first trip to Napa, Ca.; 7/9/2009-7/11/2009: Delicious nose, I want to eat this wine based on the smell alone. Lush cab fruits, spice, yummm. Strong acidity and tannins early on in the palate that taper off nicely leading into a long finish. The fruit is good early on but is dominated now by acid and tannins, something that will get better with time. Very enjoyable.

No notes because this was consumed at a gathering with 20+ wines but it went over well. Oak and spice with nice dark fruit, tannins not overpowering, and a smooth finish. Good now or hold them for a few years.

Somewhat disappointing. As it was decanter and allowed to breathe, it remained fairly one dimensional. Still a nice wine, but others in the price category offer a much better value.

Exceeded my expectations...nice bouquet of roses, leather, and red licorice. Fruit is well-integrated on the palate and not over-the-top at all. Nice structure, good complexity, dusty tannins on the finish. Look forward to seeing how this evolves over the next 3-5 years.
