Vibrant, still fairly youthful colour. Evolved nose. Palate also evolved, leather, cigar box, but fruit still there, and a slight grip on the finish. Solid and if this bottle is anything to go by, still plenty in the tank. A delight at 20 years.

Sheesh-what a nice bottle of Bordeaux. In a great place right now. A little brown at the rim-consistent with the age. Beautiful earthiness, leafy, Cherry. Seamless on the palate-a nice mintiness, menthol, red fruits. In a great place right now. Glad I have 9 left, will probably consume over the next 18 months. Super value, super wine.

A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot. 13% alcohol. Popped and poured, tasted blind.
Developed dark cherry red color with moderate translucency and a hint of haze from the disturbed deposit. Very attractive and nicely developed nose with beautiful aromas of wizened dark fruits, some herbal minty character, a little bit of pencil shavings, hints of dried blackcurrants and a touch of leather. Very classic Bordeaux nose by all accounts. The wine is dry, medium-bodied and quite acid-driven on the palate with smooth, seamless flavors of ripe dark berries, some sour dark plums, a little bit of dried dark fruits and raisins, light woody oak notes, a hint of leather and a touch of leather. Like a good claret, the wine shows no sense of heavy concentration or extracted power, yet it comes across very focused with lovely intensity. Great structure with moderately high acidity and firm, moderately grippy tannins. The finish is long, complex and moderately grippy with flavors of leather, some leafy Cab character, a little bit of earthy sous-bois, a hint of dried blackcurrants and a supple touch of ripe plums.
A wonderfully tasty, complex and beautifully developed Bordeaux red - truly a proper claret! No excessive new oak, overdone super-ripe fruit or soft structure here - just that savory, somewhat earthy and very on-point Bordeaux character. A very lovely effort that offers much more pleasure than many of the overpriced modern Bordeaux wines available today at triple or quadruple prices ever will. Although I don't doubt that the wine will keep for many more years, it seems to be on or very close to its plateau of maturity, so I see no benefit from cellaring it further. Drink or keep. Recommended.

Beautifully intact. Nice mature color, nose of green tobacco, purple flowers, leather, small red fruits, and earth. Palate has just enough freshness remaining, tannins are integrated, and it is tasty and smooth. I was surprised that there was fruit left, but it had a nice red berry quality mixed with the mature notes. Peak drinking for mature claret.

Popped and poured. This initially came across a tad thin and weedy but became better over time, at peak on day 2. It pours deep and rich with light bricking at the rim. After 24 hours of air classic aromas of cassis, dark cherry, crushed gravel, celery, tobacco, wet mossy/mushroomy forest floor, and a slight cranberry edge. The palate is quite acidic, keeping this fresh. Tannins are receeding. The finish is medium in length replaying celery, tobacco, undergrowth, and tart berry fruit. Lovely wine!

Popped and poured, purple/ruby hue, quite youthful for a wine that's almost into it's second decade of existence. Nice, lively Lanessan perfume of berries, pencil shavings, tar, tobacco and a touch of green (parsley?). Medium body. Although a bit hollow on the mid, the palate shows a nice core of red/black fruits along with tobacco, some herbaceous notes and an earthy vanilla quality. The tannins are still somewhat rustic on the moderate close. Although this isn't the most exceptional vintage of Lanessan, it's nonetheless quite charming.

Lanessan 99" enjoyed with jucy brie, norwegian "blåmandag" bluecheese, feta cheese stuffed gourmet olives, pata negra ham, and salty crackers. Tasting notes : soft, roumd. Earthy. Really light but powerfull floral tones. Deep deep red dark blue berryes, mature. Very alive despite age.
Deep ruby red and some brownish in the edges. Oaky flavor. Light bitterned in the tannines, really a mouthfull with great fullnes and red mature berryes. Worth the money. 89p

Lovely, developed Medoc aromas. In the beginning rather austere, rustique and tannic in the mouth. Then, after a couple of hours in the glas it turned into a much more velvety, and even meaty and delicate wine. Typical old fashioned Bordeaux, that needs time.

Not the most charming vintage of Lanessan, but offers up good typicity at excellent value also in 99. Better on the nose than on the palate, where it's drying out a bit by now. 87-88

Well earthy now, tobacco, cedar feel, well matured adn very classic in that style. Godo fruit still and the wine has a nice back bone to it but also soft and well round. Makes for happy drinking. Drink now. 90 (Wine was sourced from the Chateau)

On day 3, this had opened up quite nicely, which makes me think this is not actually in its drinking window yet. Still short on the finish, but nose expresses violets, and palate is firmer with candied violet, dark plum, cassis, cedar and forest floor. Changed my mind and may pick up a few more of these.

Nothing flashy, but reasonable QPR for a 17 year old Medoc. Violet in the color with some bricking. Nose is showing some secondary cab character. tobacco, red fruits, a tinge of green on the palate. finish comes up short.

Nice claret. Still quite alive. After a 30 minute decant this showed very well especially for $20. Ripe fruit, decent grip, medium/full body, plush tannins. Not terribly complicated but classic medoc flavors and profile. Drink up!

PnP. Beautiful nose of cherry, cranberry, earth, and herbs. The palate has notes of red fruits, herbs, lavender, leather, and a strong umami (mushroom, soy, and meat) quality in the mid-palate. The tannins are well integrated and silky. This is more complex than some classified growths. What drags it down a notch or two are the medium-short finish and the medium-light body.
More fruit-forward on day 2. Great QPR!

At peak - really classic Bordeaux Aromas - pencil, leather, blackcurrant. Would last 3-5 more years, but will not develop. Had just 1/2 hours with open bottle and 15 min in glas. Worked just fine, expect really much "leftovers" in the bottle. Should decanted it.

Opaque garnet in color with visible bricking. The bottle showed sediment on the shoulder. A nose of Bing cherry, dried cranberry, blueberry, garrigue, white truffle, forest floor, and dried herbs de Provence/lavender. The palate is grainy with notes of dried cherry and cranberry, plum skin, garrigue, dried mint, eucalyptus, caviar, bacon, moss, dried lavender, and saddle leather. Tannins are well integrated and velvety. Medium body and medium finish. At the end of its drinking window, if not already passed and on it’s down slope
Definition of QPR. Leaves, tobacco, cassis, nice acid. Closed at first, but an hour in the bottle really helped. Might develop a touch more in bottle, but seems unlikely.

Cork was in perfect condition, so perfect infact that I expected it to have been recorked (I don't know if it has been). The nose was well developed with lots of tertiary scents, raw meat, damped cellar, pencil shavings and new car interior. The fruit was a mix between sour cherry and raspberry candy. On the palate the age was confirmed with a concentrated leather flavor. Tannins still had a bit of grip but mainly the texture was just silky and elegant. The finish was long but thin. I think the wine probably is at its peek soon. It will most likely last a couple of more years, or even improve, but it is not in it for the long run as it missing some tannins, structure and acidity to back it up.

God struktur.

Always an outstanding value for the price, and this is no exception; This has an enticing core of plum, tobacco, earth and mint, with fairly soft tannins leading into the finish; Great to drink right now, although not sure it will improve much with additional age

Popped and decanted, then immediately served. The wine was still very drinkable and was very much enjoyed by the lot of us. Notes of graphite and earth, black plum skins, black cherries, and leather. The wine is full bodied, the tannins are fully integrated. I think the wine has plateau'd, if not, just at the beginning of the backside of the mountain. Flavors of ripe black plums, crushed, juicy raspberries, and earth. Well made, but time to drink up in my opinion. Also, I feel that for $20.00 you couldn't do much better either.
5-10 years ago the wine would probably receive a much lower rating, but it's ready to drink and will give you it's full potential for an modestly priced bottle. At a purchase price in the mid 20's it's far smoother and provides a longer tannin and leather finish than any California Cabernet priced within $10.
The wine looks ruby colored. There is light sediment in the bottle. It smells like mushroom, molasses and chocolate. It tastes like nutmeg. The body is medium. The wine has smooth texture. The wine finishes medium. The wine has low acidity.

Still mostly ruby but with some brick at the rim. Elegant and in great condition on the nose, with a subtle, classic, developing Bordeaux bouquet of cigar box, leather, and fresh and dried black cherry fruit, plus some baking spice from well integrated oak and perhaps a bit of mushroom. Somewhat less expressive and showing more age on the palate, mostly because the fruit is really fading into the background. There’s still a bit of cherry/currant juice there, but only just. The cedar and tobacco come through nicely though, and it still boasts a good coat of tannin on its medium-bodied, classically proportioned frame. The spice and oak show themselves on the finish, which is nice and dry, with good balance and length.
I’m surprised how developed it is on the palate given the color and the nose, but probably no reason to risk letting this go much longer. It’s drinking well now and showing some good class but not a whole lot more promise.

Annual Pilgrimage to Chateau Lanessan; 5/23/2014-5/25/2014 (Chateau Lanessan, Bordeaux): had 3 bottles on the day (dinner at the Chateau and all 3 sourced from its cellar) and as is usual the case for 90s Lanessan in our experience bottle variability was the issue. The good bottle was very good, round already yet with a good backbone of tannin and fruit, light earthy feel.old school Bordeaux . Pretty nice wine. 90 but be aware of bottle variation. Drinks well now but has another 10yrs easily.

From magnum and with no decanting. A much better showing than last time (maybe the magnum developed better?).The nose which is the highlight of the wine just brought a smile to our faces, classic bdx, cedar, light spice, light tobacco and leather. Open and out there on the aromatics. Very St Julien and no surprises here as the chateau is based on the boarder of with st Julien. On the palate though it feels light and lacks the density of fruit and depth. Enjoyable wine of character but needs some va va voom. 87-89

Clear dark ruby in colour. Clean med intense nose of cherry, cedar, and leather. Dry, med acidity, smooth tannins, med intense palate of cassis, cedar, and some spice. Not a long finish. Decanted for an hour, as previous experience with this wine suggested it needed some breathing space. Nice nose of very pronounced, dusty black fruit, particularly blackberry. A savoury, meaty note made an appearance too. However it was disappointing on the palate, a little thin and not much of a finish. That said it was acceptable, just not too exciting, good with the barbequed meats I had it with. Perhaps it's starting to fade.

Took some time to blossom, but this is a very soft wine with nice floral and graphite aromatics. Dark flowers, earth, and graphite flavors, but the fruit was lacking just a bit. With air it gained some weight and the fruit peaked through just a bit. All in all this is a pretty good wine and a good look at aged Bordeaux without breaking the bank, but certainly should be drank sooner rather than later.

I'm surprised at the lack of notes on this wine. it's a parker 87, and a value, and a decent qpr. The color is brick to the rim and the nose bordeaux. This is a nice sipping wine perhaps with some hard cheese. Nice wine.

Great QPR!

Open and out there on the aromatics. Very St Julien and no surprises here as the chateau is based on the boarder of with st Julien. On the palate though it feels light and lacks the density of fruit and depth. Enjoyable wine of character but needs some va va voom. 87-89
