Leflaive signature of sesame, salinity and curry leaf hits first followed by lime zest, jasmine, butterscotch and apricots on the palate - with a touch of manuka honey and caramelised peaches. Fantastic concentration and density with acidity suggesting that this came from a higher altitude plot like Pucelles/Chevalier. A touch advanced for 08 but not premoxed and a joy to drink.

Great bottle. Age appropriate. Love the pucelles nose and creamy mouth feel. A little ripe but just right for a 14 year old wine. Fourth bottle from this case and no signs of premox. No decant necessary. Coravined overnight and was perfect day two.

Same btl as Rocknroller and flt companion to an also compelling '08 Sauzet PM Champ-Canet. A spectacular fully realized head turner that would certainly hold its own with the best from any Puligny producer. I turned to my buddy Jim and said, "anyone wondering what all the fuss is about over Puligny Montrachet needs to drink just one in this rarified air!" If this isn't an epiphany white for any wine lover, I give up! Incredible mouthcoating minerality enhanced by an array of stone & citrus flavors along with other enticing and often fleeting harmonics. I loved this wine! Thanks Kevin! Served on the occasion of Kevin's (rocknroller) 60th celebrated at Minikahda Club with 12 of us enjoying Vincent's outstanding food & Nico's depth hand with the wines we brought along. 110pt occasion!

It's the Big LX Birthday Bash: No Holds Barred (Minikahda Club, Mpls): Medium gold color. PNP, drank a glass over an hour. This was a great flight paired with the '08 Sauzet P-M Champ-Canet. Both if these wines were in perfect shape and firing on all cylinders. The food pairing with the Fava Bean Agnolotti with King Crab, Mimolette, and Sherry Butter Liaison was out of this world too. The Pucelles was utterly profound in its complexity and penetration. The nose oozes with saline, richness, lemon, stone fruits, ocean air, dry stones, croissant, lemon blossoms, honey and orange zest all hitting high of the olfactory register. The palate is all that; full bodied and layered, but maintains plenty of brightness and verve, lemon, lemon oil, honey butter, clementine, pear, briny stones, still racy and well delineated, with a ridiculous finish. Regal and truly outstanding. 96+ to 97pts

Initial impression. Colour isn't great, huge richness, buttery, creme brulee etc with a sour bitter edge that doesn't go away. This is going over like a wrought iron hanglider. I've got an 01 Leflaive Combettes next to this as well as an 11 Raveneau Butteaux Chablis. The colour on the 01 is better and the Raveneau looks like a baby in comparison to this. Guess that sums up the story this wine is no good especially considering how much it's worth. Hell I'd rather drink a young fresh Chardonnay at under $50 than spend nearly $300 on this. Track record for 06/07/08 vintage isn't great for Leflaive. Hope they return to their best as it's a shame.

TNs: Female Burgundy Winemakers Dinner (Yan, National Gallery, Singapore): Really good too - this was not too far behind a tremendous bottle of 2000 Drouhin Laguiche Montrachet served alongside. The nose was pure Leflaive, with a little flinty lilt, a nice bit of chalk, and bits of white fruit and seashell minerality. The palate had a real sense of energy to it, with bright, lemony acidity racing through beautifully delineated flavours of fresh apples, and a base of chalk and lovely stony minerality trailing away into a wonderfully detailed finish. Gorgeous stuff, lots of power and depth, great length, yet wed to a tremendous sense of definition and focus. While far from undrinkable now, this will only get better with time. I thought it probably needed another 5-6 years before really hitting its stride.

Had it against the Lafon Meursault 1 cru Perrieres 2008. More subdued nose, more citric and mineral nose, but less charming and less interesting nose. Very elegant and lean both on the nose and on the palate. Acidic attack, medium body, very good balance.

Second and last bottle, which I decided to open because the previous one was (partly) premoxed. This one was bought from the same shop and stored next to the other one in my cellar. PnP, then drunk over lunch and the subsequent dinner. Golden color, not much different from the previous bottle, clear. At first some signs of evolution on the nose, but after minutes in the glass it gets clean and sharp, with pears and white flowers, mineral complexity and underlying citrus fruit. The first impression on the palate is of a wine with serious body, but the acidity takes over immediately and drives you through a deep and mineral midpalate to a long finish mostly on lemon notes, but also savory and with sweet and elegant fruit. Wonderful wine.
Really too bad that premox makes you uncertain about how long to store and when to open a bottle.

Golden color tending towards amber, a bad omen. The wine is clearly evolved, not shot completely and in fact quite enjoyable, thanks to its bright acidity. But aromas and flavors remind me of the oxidative style of Domaine Valette. I guess it's a premox victim - well, half victim perhaps...

Dinner in a Shanghaiese restaurant. Not by pre- arrangement, I brought a 2002 Pucelle, a 95 Mouton and a 89 La Chapelle; my friend brought a 2008 Pucelle, and a 83 Mouton. What a nice coincidence. The 08 Pucelle had a nice gold color, much deeper than the 02. Nose was concentrated melon and vanilla. A very full bodied palate with peach, caramel and toffee, with that slight hint of marmalade. Very smooth quite low in acidity, almost new-world-ish. Trounced the 02 start to finish.

Theme : 2008 Puligny Flight 3 : Pucelles & GC Format : Blind 13.5% The aromatic profile is great, highly intense yellow fruits w hint of spice complexity. Domaine Leflaive with James Handford MW (Handford Wines, London): Decent color here, shows a bit its age. Quite a concentrated nose, almost sweet notes at times (poor yields to blame?), light caramel feel. Has a quite nice evolved character and pretty much shows the quality of the winemaker/philosophy as (according to James) it definitely outperformed others in a difficult 2008. Nice persistence of flavor, good acidity. Barring a few harsh notes on the palate this was a very good experience and at par with our tasting 2 yrs ago.

Domaine Leflaive Masterclass with James Handford MW (Handford Wines, London): Once again a testament to the domaine when they manage to pull something like this from the difficult 2008 vintage and we think we would struggle to find better from the vintage. The colour definitely belongs to a much older wine, dense gold and although full of clarity it lacks a but of a shine. The nose, which is the highpoint, has a nice ripe character, citrus notes mostly. Nice harmony on the palate but with quite a few rough edges on the finish. 91-92 from us

La Paulee 2.0 S.F.: Coupled with the 04, and a 01 Jean Boillot...the 08 was really fresh and clean...not much match stick, more sea breeze, very chalky with minerals, bright lemon acid...refreshingly tasty...but should age well too.

wide open for drinking right now. Lush, round, and slutty tropical fruit and a touch of vanilla oak envelop the front palate. Extra rich but the fattness of the wine reminds of lafon. Not entirely enthused by the change in style from 07 to 08 and beyond. The wine is too big and too fat. I think people who like Lafon, Sauzet would love this wine but for me right now I'd prefer the far superior 07.

At Le Saison. Very closed and inapproachable. Did not yield much over 2 hours. The village 08 drunk a couple of weeks earlier was more enjoyable at this stage. No doubt the Pucelles will unfold and you could trace a hint of the complexity t o come in the structure with Pucelles high minerality and fine acidity, but the aromatics were totally muted. We had two bottles and both were the same.

A very strong showing. The wine smells and tastes like a lemon chiffon cake. Great richness and minerality in the mouth. Leflaive is undoubtably making the finest premier cru white burgundy with this offer. I often prefer it to some of her grand cru's as the pucelles has an elegance and balance that tempers the rich power of leflaive.
While the sulfur shows, it isn't taking away from the pleasure of this wine at the moment.

La Paulée de New York: Vertical Tasting (Colicchio & Sons - New York NY): Tasting. Ripe peach aromas with plenty of oak spice for now. Similar on palate. Very dense and powerful with lots of energy providing support to long finish.

(Most of) The Burgundy Verticals Tasting at La Paulee 2013 (Colicchio & Sons, New York): Denser and more woody than the '07. Fine acidity and good minerality, but I preferred the lighter, livelier 2007.

wide open for drinking right now.

(two examples, one had been opened 24 hours and the other just opened) The nose seems manufactured, flat at the start but lovely minerality and surprisingly mature. Good balance with heady fruit and sophisticated acidity. The second bottle is consistent but fresher.

Incredible concentration, tremendous cut, great stuffing for the future. Lemon oil, creamy / waxy richness, wet stone, white flowers. Fairly long finish. Very coiled right now with some sulfur showing, not really worth opening yet but will be tremendous.

taken in to the hotel bar in campton place and drunk with a combination of small plates, corkage waived. richer and showing more oak than the meursault, but still a delight. delicate mouthfeel despite the oak with a complex texture and long finish. nice.

Quite spicy on the nose with notes of aniseed mixing it up with pure white peach, citrus blossom and lemon rind. It is complex, precise and detailed with a big streak of minerals flaying across the palate. It finishes with a fair amount of dry extract and is long and linear.

La Paulée de New York Grand Tasting (Metropolitan Pavilion - New York NY): Tasting, brief note. Lots of summer flowers to start with some lemon curd and almost tropical fruit aromas. Rich and lush again on palate, very alluring indeed, exactly what I like in a Pucelles.

La Paulée de New York 2011: Same subtle nose as the village PM; bit of applesauce on the palate, nice acid.

Supremely elegant nose of Arum lilies and white peach. Shapely in the mouth with sappy fruits and good tension. The acidity literally fizzes and crackles.
