Good Barolo and Barbaresco (67 Pall Mall): A sweet, pretty nose, with a touch of game. Deep, succulent purple fruit on the palate, good acidity, and in a nice place despite a touch of rustic astringency on the finish. Not flashy, but good - at peak?

Small dinner to try out a new restaurant (Mihan): At the other end of Nebbiolo - clearly more rustic, more mature, more meaty perhaps? Broad shouldered, with a hint of almond and peachstone. Decent stuff but - evokes admiration more than desire, unlike the perfectly formed Peroline.

A very supple, layered and silkily-textured Barbaresco that is at a plateau and drinking wonderfully. Bitter cherry, amaro and tar flavours, and after the finesse entry and midpalate, still some noble al dente medium to full-bodied Nebbiolo tannins slowly engage. A classic.

Decanted for sediment and gave it 30 minutes before drinking. Still somewhat youthful overall, slightly bricking at edges and good acidic streak. Classic cherry, menthol, and spice.

Medium, red/garnet with brick edges. Aromas of tobacco and tar with a slight hint of menthol. Dry and full-bodied. Raspy tannins present. Flavorful with up-front liquor (rum?), asphalt and cigar on the palate. Lengthy finish with tannins and slight acidity out to 7 seconds.
Overall, well-integrated but might benefit from a few more years before opening another bottle.

Thankfully much better than the last bottle which was clearly faulty. Loads of bitter cherry flavour here, along with tar and woody liquorice. Feminine but still pretty muscular, this is a powerful Nebbiolo with razor sharp acidity and a long finish. Tannins approachable but not many secondary flavours yet. Can definitely go another 15 years. 94

Dark ruby color, very fruity and sweet on the nose at first, later with the classical nebbiolo aromas of smoke and tar, but very young wine. Grippy tannins. Will hold for at least one more decade.

I decanted this for 5 hours before drinking it with some prosciutto with melon appetizer and then tortellini with pesto and Parmesan cheese. I took about a 3 ounce pour when I first opened it....very dark fruits, with a definite clove and earth component on both the nose and palate. Five hours later, the fruit was much brighter and flavorful with good balance. These bottles are still fairly young in the 04 and 05 vintages, which make up a lot of my PDB single vineyard inventory.

PnP'ed, unfortunately, drank over three hours. Nose of dark cherries, sweet cloves, menthol, licorice, sight rose but not really strong. Similar on the palate, but more tar and black tea. With air, perhaps a bit more orange peel, especially a bitter pith on the finish, but still dominated by darker cherry and cloves. Drying tannins, takes some time to open. Bright acidity. Only slightly approachable now, but really should hold off for another five years or so. Staggeringly youthful for 13 years from vintage.

Mid-garnet, brick red rim. On opening: gentle herbiness; smooth, grippy tannins then kick in; well mannered finish. Very long. 3 hours on. Cleaner, leaner nose, bright fruit; smooth, tannins have rounded out but retain grip; finishes firmly. A further three hours later. This has loosened some more. Cherried/ferrous nose; palate had not progressed as much & remained taciturn. A good match to bavette. Potentially, more to come. Certainly no rush.

Really exquisite flavours of herbs, rose and tar, this has come on enormously in the last year or two and clearly stands apart from the normal bottling. Deliciously feminine and pretty, this also has a firm backbone and is sure to drink beautifully for a long while yet. 94

Moderat lengde. Bra matvin, 90p

A nice ruby colored wine with a spicy, dark fruit and earthy nose, the wine sits wonderfully on the palate with nicely balanced tannins and finished with a flavorful fruit finish with fine acidity. It is not the most complex of wines, but is enjoyable and flavorful. The balance is so fine that this would be a great addition to any cellar as the tannins and acidity have at least another 5-7 years to fully mellow.

Two 2005 Produttoris: Double decant, minimum of five hours air, over two nights. Colour deep garnet. A bouquet of old plums and red cherries, creosote, red liquorice, with aromas of tobacco and dried leaves. Attractive, mellow and savoury. Further along its drinking curve than the Paje. Red cherry is the dominant flavour, with spicy plums, dry underbrush and leather. Good dry extract and density and good freshness and acidity. Slightly rustic, grippy tannins across the mid palate and more straightforward and less detailed than I'd like. Finishes reasonably long but a little firmly. A good wine but slightly disappointing. Ideally, give it another 3+ years.

I was a little disappointed in this wine. Tasted with the regular Produttori cuvee from 2006, this was a marginally better in terms of complexity and aging potential (could go a few years more), but the regular bottling, admittedly from a better year, beat it on the nose. This was restrained, with leather, dried fruit and hard tannins. Still, a pleasant drink, of course.

Popped and poured... Big attack of fruit, almost grapey, sweet, followed by mentholated/medicinal notes. Big, fleshy tannins kick in with air, giving this a tarry, almost stewed profile. Tastes like young Bordeaux from a ripe year but with plenty of acidity. Good depth, nice flavors, just too young right now. I'd say very good upside. 92+ pts.

Embracing, firmly drying tannins and nice minerality. Moderately dark fruit, rose, tar and liquorice nose. Good balance. Great but perhaps suffers from the reputation of the basic bottling which is so good one wants something distinct from the riservas. Again, utterly delicious, bold flavours, mouth-wateringly sharp acidity and satisfyingly Piedmont but I'm not convinced the basic cru wouldn't offer a bigger bang for the buck. 91

I totally agree with Wink's review. Spot on. This wine is very elegant and silky with a long life ahead, but is very drinkable now. It was great before food, but with food...oh my, fantastic. Initial pour looked liked a Pinot Noir. Very light and cherry color. But was strong with lots of body. Got smoother in the glass. I bought this bottle from a restaurant/retail place in Barolo. I will have to back to Barolo to pick up more bottles!

Translucent dark garnet. Nose of violet, dust, and vanilla. Palate of black cherry, plum, anise, spice, and minerals. Excellent length. Silky texture. Bright, mouthwatering acidity. Young sweet tannins. This wine is quite approachable for its age. Superb QPR Barbaresco.

Beautiful rose petal nebbiolo purity and very aromatic. Still young yet quite easy to drink. I've been drinking Produttori wines since the 80's - always with the sense of QPR and reliability - and they have always been both. There are several Cellar Tracker notes from me covering this period, but believe me, I have drunk many more. Just me, but this may just be - time will tell - my favorite vintage of all of thembecause they are not only delivering, but they are drinking early. Have tasted some of the 2004's and the 2007's, and I think the 05's are basically more elegant, and that is a relative term since this is Nebbiolo - never a delicate mouthful -my ballpark, maybe not yours of course. The 05"s are less dense if you will, less opaque if you will, and deliver a more elegant expression at this young age. Ten plus years on the 04's and 07's will be offering more I'm sure but many points to this vintage for early gratification. My score on this wine will go up over the years.
Dark ruby opaque in the center but mostly translucent. Nose was tobacco, licorice, red berry, and an unpleasant barnyard scent. (This barnyard scent is what was off-putting, but it's odd as I usually like barnyard scents. This however was unpleasant.) The barnyard scent went away after about 90 minutes. On the palate, less of the red berry, but still tobacco and licorice, and an appealing gravelly minerality. Tannins are a little bit rough still. Medium-length finish.
