Vinous London dinner, January 2020 (La Trompette): Magnum. Slightly dusty nose as this was unfortunately a bit affected by TCA - still a nice wine, but was performing with one hand tied behind its back. That aside, this was quintessential white Burg, with a tasteful hint of oak on the nose and some attractive, refreshing citrus.

Med dark yellow Nose is exotic fruit, honey very sweet apple and pear fruit. In the mouth is remarkably concentrated with broad white and citrus fruit and notes of lees with refreshing mineral finish. Excellent

Fairly dark yellow. Expressive bouquet with ripe yellow fruits, mango, caramel and honey. On the palate good minerality , vanilla, yellow and white fruits ok acidity and bitterness. Unfortunately the wine gave a somewhat reductive impression and lacked a bit in tension. Medium length. Maybe it was the bottle…? I nevertheless score it.

"Mr. & Mrs. White" Birthday Dinner (Private Room, Caprice Restaurant, Four Seasons Hotel, Two IFC, Hong Kong): Decanted for 45 minutes before serving. Bright, shiny golden straw colour. Nose is pomelo, a touch of vanilla pod, caramel and some nicely refined oak…..very balanced and multidimensional. Palate has a wonderful lemon-drenched freshness of initial attack then a roll of growling resonance of roasted whole lemons, minerals and crushed rocks. However, on the palate the oak is a bit too predominant and there is a bit too much alcohol that hasn’t yet found its place…..needs more time to fully express itself. Come back in 5-7 years’ time. I personally preferred the citric, high-noted freshness of the preceding Dom. Bouzereau Mersault Les Perrieres 2007 but I was in a minority here. That said, ultimately, this wine will almost certainly outclass it.

Badly Pre-moxed, served blind in a flight of 5 Premier Crus and village wines from Meursault, it finished last.
