Retail $50. Heavy Bottle. I popped the first bottle about three weeks ago for a tasting at our house and while it was certainly a bit tired, there was still plenty of life left. Golden again in color with a rich, opulent nose of lemon curd, white flower, toasted almond, and honeyed apricot. The palate? Yowza: rich, decadent, opulent, and weighty. Whoa. The fruit is there, but it is wrapped up in a rich, nutty, honeyed mélange of intensity. Whoa. This is not for the casual Chardonnay consumer, this is a big, big girl and in my opinion, big is beautiful.

This wine was so fresh. The color was bright yellow with only hints of gold. The nose was complex, deep and shifting. All the elements were in place with nothing overwhelming its friends. Yogurt, lemon, apple, lychee, almond, delicatly grilled sage and white peach played off of each other effortlessly. The palate had nice acidity that balanced the undeniable yet poised richness that is Beringer PR Chardonnay. The finish is long, mouth watering, and simply delicious.

Wine is done. Stick a fork in it. Opened two separate bottles within a 3-day span and identical observations. Has a brownish cognac color and taste is still somewhat acidic but with a gasoline/diesel aftertaste (yes, I have accidentally tasted both before). Wonder what it was like 5-6 years ago. I get some idea from past postings. I see this wine being marketed and sold even now - obviously some suppliers looking to release inventory.

Finally drinkable. Smooth and creamy; luscious with rich seafood - lobster, crab, scallops, with just enough acidity to avoid being unctuous. I so wish I had waited on the previous bottles that were so horrible as to almost give up on this wine. Definitely needs the bottle age, at least with my palate.

Beautiful! Golden color, buttery, full body chardonnay. Aging beautifully. Even though outside the drinking window to some, this can age several more years for an even more full body wine. A fantastic example of a Napa Valley chardonnay.

Drinking beautifully right now, a complex Chard with good body, fruit and the right amount of oak. I am rating it a bit higher than most because its much better than others I have had that rate around 90 according to the magazines. The wine has been stored for a while in a temp controlled environment, if you do not have that I would get right after this one before you lose it.

Okay, here is what this is like for me. It is like someone took a perfectly good Rombauer chardonnay, watered it down a little and added an element of burnt butterscotch. It's not that bad but it leaves one wanting more. It may be that it is just past the window or individual bottle variation. I have one more of these so we shall see.

Big complex wine with ALL the classical chardonnay fruits, oakiness, smoke, and alcoholic heat. Good acidity but CAN't keep up with oak and alcohol, so a little out of balance from my perspective. But really very good.

Deep yellow gold color. Nose of apple, peach and some floral notes. Very different on the palate, lots of oak, very little acidity. Short finish of oak. Waited too long with this bottle, previous one was much better back in 2011.

Light golden color in the glass. Aromas are very atypical for chardonnay and show peach, lemon curd, popcorn and butter cream. The palate is similar in structure with a slightly oily texture and more citrus and creamy notes. The finish is relatively long and acidity is subdued. I really enjoyed this wine, although I would never have identified it as a new world chardonnay if tasted blind.

Brilliant, wonderful warm golden color. Starts with honey, melon, pepper. Leads to a medium palate of lychee and flowers, lingers for 15 to 20 seconds. So well integrated and balanced.

I really enjoyed this, however my nearly white wine only wife not so much. More complex than your average chardonnay, with elements of apple, pear and even some vanilla/cream soda showing. Golden in color and very creamy texture, which appealed to me, but turned of my wife. 92 from me, 84 from her.

Got a little better with some air and even putting it through a white wine Vinturi. But, it never got where we hoped it would. The oak just kept biting back.

Although I think these wines don't age, this one aged prematurely most likely due to cork issues. Dark gold colors and some caramel. Cork was dry but brittle. Still wine was pretty good. Thankfully I did not let this sit.

This has developed bottle nuance since the last bottle I tasted on 1/08/2012. Bright gold; ripe, tropical nose of pineapple, citrus, 'Nilla Wafers, vanilla pudding, hazelnut, smoke, and spice box elements. Flavors to match, picking up honeyed notes of melon and citrus and showcasing a buttery, glyceriny texture. Rich, deep, expressive, and polished.

I allowed the first glass to sit for an hour and reach just cooler than room temperature before the first sip. That allowed the aromas to lift from the glass with notes of honeysuckle and tea roses. The mouth feel was perfectly round, smooth and creamy. The tastes were a beautiful mélange of pears, apples, melons, citrus, almonds, fresh butter and teaberry. The oak in this bottle was well tamed and just pleasantly present, without being at all overwhelming. Best showing yet!

Not a subtle chardonnay. Initial scent of oak upon opening the bottle then some floral notes, initial oakiness followed by a lemon or citrus taste on the palate, meaty long finish. I think this is a good example of a California Chardonnay it is a shame that we cannot accept it for what it is and not try to make a more Burgundian style. Whether its California or France all good given their style just accept it for what it is.

Holy Oak, Batman! Opening this bottle immediately after finishing a wonderful Drouhin Chablis, this Beringer Chard came on heavy handed. However, as the night moved on, this mellowed out and offered more florals and citrus fruits to balance the oakiness. Still an excellent wine.

Medium bodied, straw colored, and strong legged. Aromas of granny smith apples and honey dew melons. On the palate a wonderfully tart melange of tropical fruits and berries, followed by a creamy smooth finish, redolent with mellow oak and mature tannins. Now is the time!

I don't understand the reviews that rate this wine anything short of 90 points. The wine is a perfect dinner compliment, and I agree with my friends at Wine Discount Center who described it as having "floral honeysuckle, honeycomb bouquet" and "supple and voluptuous... sweet creamy oak, lively fruit and rich creme brûlée flavors". Also some hazelnut and nice acidity. Delicious!

Deep, golden straw; long, rich, and voluptuous with a buttery, glycerin-like texture. Sweet, ripe, mouth-filling flavors of honeyed tropical fruit, pineapple, stonefruit, citrus, butterscotch, and vanilla effortlessly glide through the palate. Gains depth and complexity on the long stonefruit finish.

Outstanding California Chardonnay. Light straw color, with good legs in the glass. Rich, evocative nose of tropical fruits and tasty oak. On the palate, though the initial impression is of the oak, notes of citrus, apple, cinnamon rolls and butterscotch torte provide a symphony of delights.

Maybe i cant take chardonnay anymore but it think it is the oak. I feel like they have gotten carried away and the only way to nullify it is to chill it to the point where its colder than the vodka in the freezer.

Rich, smokey, balanced, deep. Altogether a wonderful Napa Chard that wasn't hot, over-oaked, too "butter-scotchy" or tart. Delightful effort and well deserving of all the praise it has received. Bravo. Well done. A real nice effort!

Bright, clean, oily, leggy. Fine, elegant, creamy, tropical fruit. Very creamy on the palate. Rich, egg-noggy. Banana creamy pie. Fine acid edge keeps it from being too fat. Long finish. 4-12-16-8: 90/100.

Surprisingly light color. On the nose it is delicate with smells of peach, white flowers, and key lime pie. On the palate it has a medium body, with a silky mouth feel. The oak is extremely subtle and it has a very delicate quality to it. If I had to guess, I would never have thought of this as a Calif. chardonnay. It almost tastes like there is some viognier in the mix. The concentration is just enough without being over the top. I would have liked a tad more acidity. Overall a beautiful, delicate, and subtle wine with excellent balance. And for the cost, you can't get much better than this.

This fights way above its weight class. Melon, savory herbs, butterscotch. Great depth of flavor while maintaining a pleasing, elegant mouthfeel. Definitely some creaminess and butter but not overdone with both the oak and alcohol balanced. Decent length.

Awesome Chardonnay. Brilliant light golden yellow with good viscosity. Pretty, honeyed fruit in the nose, with lovely apple and vanilla notes. Palate shines with impeccable balance, rich toasty fruit that is not over-oaked. Has a kind of yellow banana taffy element although deep and rich at the same time. Lovely all the way around. 5-13-17-8: 93/100.

Not having been a big chardonnay drinker, I'd never truly experienced "buttered popcorn" in a wine. Here it is.
A lovely clear gold in the glass with a nose of asparagus (another first for me), and big mouthfuls of artificial butter-flavored popcorn in the glass. There may be other notes too, but I wouldn't know, I was drinking artificial butter #104. I really didn't care for this, but have a few more bottles cellared. Let's hope with time they will have more to show.

Needs a little air but then begins to open up. The magic of this bottle is on the complex nose and in the creamy finish that lingers well after the taste. Initially a bit acidic, but mellows quickly. Vanilla, fig, pears and honeysuckle notes. Don't agree that it's an oak bomb...

Light colored, citrus and minerals. In a blind tasting this was hard to differentiate with top white Burgs from Montrachet. Oak is there but much more reserved and balanced, more French-like than typical CA. Excellent, but past vintages have me convinced to drink up rather than age.

Historically, my favorite Chardonnay. But this one doesn't cut it. Good color, nose, and body, but the acidity is too low - not enough to balance the fruit. Seems flabby - no crispness - uninteresting - disappointing.

Tastes manufactured; a concoction that combines gobs of vanilla with unbalanced alcohol. A poster child for an overdone, overextracted juice made to appeal to a sweet palate. Would not want this again at any price.
This chard is just truly fantastic, the colder you have it the better it is, I honestly don't think I've had many chards that can compare to this especially whe you take the price into account. We had it with grilled sun dried tomatoes and basil chicken, grilled portobello mushrooms and grilled squash; simply a great great meal and a perfect wine for it. We aldo accompanied the chicken with a Joseph phelps syrah that was excellent as well.

If you are a new world CA wine enthusiast you should search this out. Beautiful gold color in the glass. Pungent nose tells you exactly where it is going to land in the mouth. Layers of complexity. Nice balance of butter, oak, nutmeg, pineapple, lemon complimented with lots of acid. There is a reason why all 4 professional ratings on this wine have been 91-94 points. The wine has many, many years ahead of it but I love it now. For $22+tax it is a great wine to impress your friends. I must go buy the rest of it. Even better on night two as the initial sugar blew off and the acidity came through. i think I will like this wine more with 2-3 years of cellar time on it.

Definitely dominated by oak on the nose, with buttery caramel over the apple and poached pear. Quince, apple, and caramel, with a velvety, full mouthfeel. A very nice wine. Would really be a knockout with brighter citrus or clearer tropical notes. But I'll drink this again, for sure. 91+

Tasted at room temperature after glass decanting about 4 hours. Way too over the top on the nose for my taste. The buttered popcorn aroma is much too dominate. It hides the tropical fruit, spice and floral notes trying to peek out. The palate is bit more restrained. There's still plenty of butter, but the fruit comes through a little more than the nose. It did have good acidity and a nice spice finish, though. I'm not going to rate it, but it is an 87-88 to my palate.

Light yellow gold. The oak dominates the nose at this point. Not much depth of fruit. Hint of white flowers in the background but the oak is front and center on the nose and palate. The finish is vanilla with a slight tannic astringency and some heat on the back end. Needs time to smooth out but not sure if there's enough depth of actual fruit in this wine. I like the 07 better.

Incredible apricot, honey, white peach and pear flavors on the nose and tongue. Rich but not cloying or sweet; completely balanced with just enough acid to go well with food. Not too much oak nor too much malolactic fermentation. I'm not a big chardonnay fan, but this may change my mind.

Christmas Quaffs: Wow, really good. This is much lighter, less oaky, and drier than many earlier Beringer PR Chards. Sbragia is no longer at Beringer, no?, so is this a change in style? Definitely a Cali Chardonnay in it's essence, but it could pass for a rich Corton-Charlemagne with its attack of ripe Golden Delicious apple, vanilla custard and wet steel. Elegant on the palate, richer on the nose. Great, great QPR.

Toasted oak, citrus a bit of gunflint on the nose. Kinda nice. Quince, lemon, cream and lime on the palate. Great attack, with good acidity, mid-palate drops off a little but the finish keeps going for a while. Better than '07 as it's not just butter-popcorn and has better acidity to last. nice.

Oak and butter. Very mineral driven. Doesn't have the depth of the top-top shelf Chardonnay but this is very good and a great value.

Beringer 2008 PR Chardonnay
Pure Chardonnay nose with creamy fresh aromas with vanilla bean.
Dark serious fleshy fruit, buttery, warm rich nice mouth feel. Spicy white fruit with good
acid lift. Comparable to a Kistler. 92-93

Candied nose, far too oaky palate. Undrinkable.

Buttered popcorn, vanilla and some tropical fruits. A consistent performer year to year, a definite buy for those who enjoy a bigger style. Its not over the top in my opinion and the '08 is the best of recent memory.

Full bodied yes....too much heat in the finish which obscures even its oak. Expected more.

Have had many bottles of this already. What an exceptional wine for the price! Very Rich. Extra long finish.

Wow I love this wine!! Kister quality at over half the price. Honeydew, butter, toffee, and more butter flavors. Oak is there but perfectly integrated. Great concentration...almost syrupy. This is everything I want in a Chardonnay. Served with Costco smoked salmon (which is the best smoked salmon you will ever find) and Flecki.

Color was more subdued than many other big, bold chards; nose of lemon-lime soda; pineapple and lime flavors with Vanilla toasted oak notes that linger on long finish finish; a very nice balance without being over oaked or over buttered

Kind of stern, I thought--not as buttery as previous versions. Quince on the nose, flint and other minerals, a bit of tropical fruit and vanilla. Solid.

Great, great QPR.

full bodied on the nose and pallate. Taste of a higher priced wine (assuming you got it on sale). Light gold in the glass. Some butter and baking spice. Fruit and floral on the nose as well. May let some age, given the quality...

14.9% ABV. Light gold in the glass. Nose of butter, baking spice, and apple. Medium full bodied with rich apple fruit framed in toasted oak and butter. Full throttle with no noticeable heat in the finish. Nice if you like the style.

Toasted oak, citrus a bit of gunflint on the nose. Kinda nice. Quince, lemon, cream and lime on the palate. Great attack, with good acidity, mid-palate drops off a little but the finish keeps going for a while. Better than '07 as it's not just butter-popcorn and has better acidity to last. nice.

Rich, opulent wine. Oak, but I think it will resolve. This is a young wine that I believe will evolve to a great wine.

Very solid chardonnay. The oak is there but it isn't overpowering. The flavor profile is balanced nicely with the citrus flavors. This was served along with BBQ on NFL Sunday. I'll remember this day for the wine and not the 49ers performance.
