Coche gunflint, hazelnut, and smoked fruit. It shows the vintage ripeness but the acidity is more than enough to offset it. Very good density on the palate. Benchmark Coche village. 93-94

Burgundy best of village blind (La Trompette (London)): More nutty and mature compared to the 12 & 13. This didn't get so much love with the group but I found it wonderful. Guessed Meursault blind (maybe Comte Lafon Clos Barre 2002?). Nicely mature and would be pulling corks.

Tasted blind – A compacted reduction underneath a layer of saturated orchard fruits, maturing apples, ripe apricots, and mild undergrowth. Brilliant complexity with a slight glycerol-y broad texture on the palate. 1er Cru weight. Reminded me of a Leflaive 1998 I opened recently. Puligny Montrachet, Leflaive, Les Pucelles, 1998? (92/100)

G6 (Rick): Bright golden yellow hue. Aromatics of caramelized pear fruit with some popcorn oak. Flavors of apple, lemon and lime fruit. Metallic minerality in the mid palate. Medium bodied. Reasonably well balanced. The fruit is fading a bit on the finish revealing a large oak backbone. This wine should have been consumed at least 5 years ago for my personal tastes however today it is still interesting to drink. 12.5% alcohol.

Aromatically - a difficult wine to describe as it had a entanglement of mineral, fruit, and bottle bouquet aromas. A nice wine but not a great wine. 91

Lightly golden yellow colour, quite surprisingly for a wine this young. A very nutty, creamy and mushroomy bouquet that unfolds into notes of banana and toasty oak. Seems quite burnt. But in a lovely and elegant way. No New World exaggerated overoaked banana split here. Very harmonious mouthfeel. Rich and creamy in texture with the mushroom phenomenon repeated in the taste. Dense and packed with ripe fruit. But slightly closed. But all the substance of something great is there. Amazing that this is only a village lieu dit. There's so much structure and definition. The aftertaste is chapter all by itself. Long, fierce, balanced and fading out on citrussy notes. Beautiful. Should open up in a couple of years and keep for 10-15.

During a Paulee dinner, so only brief impressions. Great wine also here after a stellar Perrieres. Minerals, lemon, cut hay. How does Coche do it?

A taste of Coche-Dury (Angler, City of London): Unpromising nose, but again the palate was not as fat and sweet as the nose suggested, sharper than the 98, but not much better
