Phenomenal, third night open and this is such a beautiful, wonderfully balanced wine. Can easily go for many more years.
Note, starting to throw a good amount of sediment so make sure to decant, it also thrives with a couple hours of air, or drank slowly over a few days. Will continue to buy and hide away.

Very surprised by this wine. Rich, blue and red fluids. Oh he’s turning out to be a great year for Napa. Medium to long finish. Nice notes on the nose of cigar and dust and red earth.

Delightful wine. The nose is amazing…Sweet, powerful and boozy with brown sugar, molasses, some cola a little menthol and hoisin. Big chalky tannins and peppery. But strangely thin despite its palate presence

Amazing nose of peppercorn, eucalyptus, sundried tomato, smoked meats. Hits the palate with blackcurrants, dark chocolate, black olives, crushed rocks, and mint. Full-bodied and dense, with smooth, rounded tannins and good supporting acidity. Finishes long and dry. Decanted for 1 hour at Huntress Steakhouse in San Diego, but could have used more. This has shed any baby fat it might have had in its youth and has transitioned into a mature, elegant cabernet. Can easily go for a few more years in its current form.
Drinking beautifully at the moment. Opened directly from cellar so it was a bit cold and primarily showing a “dusty” quality at first, which gave way to dark fruit after breathing for an hour. Once it opened and warmed there were layers of red, blue and black fruit, with very polished tannins that make for a food friendly wine as well as an enjoyable wine to sip on its own. O’Shaughnessy seems to over perform when young and steadily improves (and impresses) with time, something that is rare in Napa.

Last bottle of this well aged cab with Jaime and Melissa at our new fav Italian steakhouse. It is drinking exceptionally well with all components well integrated, playing nicely off eachother. Strong yet soft and supple Mt. Veeder fruit. No formal tasting notes that I can draw from....or remember?
An impeccable bottle of wine. Opened 4 hours before dinner. Loads of cassis on the pnp. Cedar, too. Over the 4 hours of air, this wine moved into perfect balance with loads of class, beautiful dark fruit, and perfect acidity. I love wines with great structure and balance, this one does not disappoint. This is the best of the last few bottles, maybe because of the 4 hour decant? Only one bottle left.....rats.
My last bottle of the 2008s, so I’ll be looking to buy more. Beautiful aromas of blackberry and black cherry with crushed rocks and a hint of licorice. Flavors are complex and layered with black fruit, cherry pie and firm tannins typical of wines from O’Shaughnessy. Drink it now or 10 years from now.
This was drinking so well and more youthfully than the vintage would suggest. It wins the ‘More Markey’ award of the night, as it was opened late in the evening after many excellent Bordeaux wines. It was that point in the evening when you don’t want to try anything new, especially with a 1998 Angelus still in the glass. But then, there it was and it was so full of fruit and flavor, it really was fantastic.
Found this in my cellar! It was amazing! Great dark cab with lots of life left. Earthy, dark chocolate and tobacco notes sing. Fine tannins and minerality carry the day to keep interesting and lively. Went great with lamb chops! Fragrant nose and long finish. Super!
Opaque black purple color. Blackberry and cassis. Nice fine tannins give this good structure. Some heat but not too overt. Some secondary leather and earthy notes on the finish.

This was a little thin on opening, garnet in the glass but oh so good given the Mt. Veeder fruit. 10 years in and it's drinking great! plenty of fruit and power left. Better with an hour of air and warming to temp.

A totally wonderful Napa Cab, just starting to hit a somewhat decent drinking window. Tonight the first impression offers up clean beautiful fruit and a totally flawlessly execution. This is state of the art Napa Cab. There is power accompanied both by elegance and structure - still tannins behave very well and make a silky impression. The nose offers up rich dark fruit, chalkiness, Cigar box and Cedar wood, ballpoint pen and of course nicely integrated luxurious oak. The palate is certainly best described as full bodied and perfectly balanced. Acidity, oak, tannins and fruit are all here, but they are very harmonious and elegantly expressed. Texture and structure is certainly present, but perhaps the astonishing integration is a sign adolescence has come to and end for this wine. A super effort which cannot pass by without some merit. (score is 97+)
The WOTN, with all due respect to the '89 Pichon Lalande.....this had the nose and color of the Lalande but oh so much more. Greater intensity of cedar/oak and fruit to hold its own with the best of all.....what a fantastic wine!

Similar notes to previous bottle. Dark and viscous wine. 2 hr decant but needed more. Drank over 2 hrs and got better with more time. Threw off a lot of sediment.
Still very good but for my taste might have hit its peak a yr or two ago? Sweet dark fruit, vanilla, nice long finish, still some firm tannins. But feels like the fruit has started to fade just a tiny amount and it's replaced with a bit of an alcohol burn (to me). Helps confirm the window for us on these bigger napa cabs is probably 5-8 years from release.

One word: Awesome! This could be an everyday drinker.
Gave it 95 because I think tannins are still holding this back and it has significant room to run.
2 hr decant. Blackish purple. On the nose the typical mountain profile. Some camphor, rocky minerals, blackberries, black pepper. Palate very similar, with graphite and charcoal notes. Very complimentary oak notes close off a medium long finish, where the camphor shows up again to remind you where you started. Tannins are there but not overpowering, but they grip the finish letting you know they're not ready to give up.
This needs a few more years to peak...RP got this one right at 98, but not just yet. Really can't wait to see where this goes!

This is definitely a superior wine, however my preference is for the Howell Mountain cab. Opened and let this one breathe for nine hours. The wine was full-bodied and well integrated. The vintner describes the wine as having a now of "forest". In my opinion, this translates on my palate to somewhat of a "vegetal" characteristic that takes a little away from the wine overall. Still, you can't go wrong with this wine.

Upset that this wine didn't open up after 2 hours of decanting. There wasn't too much fruit and a lot more tannins than I would have expected. Very disappointed. I have left some in the bottle so if there's a change of heart, will report back.

Really excellent wine - although I would not rate as high at this time as I see many others have. Decanted 2 hours - which is NOT enough at this stage. This is Big Boy and additional cellar time or longer decant is needed. By the end of the evening/dinner this was finally starting to reveal it's true character just a little. Black as night in the glass to the rim. Although the nose was a little subdued, the palate was fantastic dark black and blue mountain berries with cassis, cocoa, minerality, and fantastic drying tannins that lead to a long finish. I am a big fan of O'Shaughnessy but have liked other vintages of theirs better that I have tasted recently ('07 and 08 HM, 06 MV...). However, I believe their HM bottling is the better of their wines when it is younger and the Mt Veeder offering requires more aging. I opened this btl too early - but can tell it has the stuffing to continue to get better. I will try to wait 2 years before revisiting. Still, a great wine if you can't wait.

Awesome wine. I open the bottle and decanted the bottle and I stood several feet away and the aroma of the wine filled the room and was unmistakable dark fruit, leather, tar. The wine was a very dark purple with extremely long legs and as the wine sat it continually changed what we were tasting in it. My first impression was of tar and licorice but several minutes later the tar and licorice dissipated and the fruit became the dominate taste, blackberries, plums, cherries. The wine was decanted for an hour and was consumed over the next 2 hours and after an hour and a half some smokiness emerged and the tar reemerged along with some sweet taste of fruit. An incredibly long finish the wine is still young and could use a few more years in the cellar but that doesn't distract from appeal of this cab

Deep purple in color. Stained the glass as it was the last in a series we were tasting. Just an amazing powerful and in your face cabernet that is extremely well made. One of the best young cabernet wines that I have ever tasted from Mt. Veeder ever. It was powerful yet extremely well balanced and you can tell this has the chance to be an exceptional bottle. Approachable and certainly drinkable now, as others mentioned it definitely benefits from decanting. Great tannin structure and a superb finish. I tasted blackberry, blueberry, plum, cocoa with just a hint of cedar wood/forest floor. This could be one of the best wines in the vintage from Veeder or in the 08 cabernet field. Just outstanding.

Powerful yet extremely well balanced. Approachable now, but defenitely benefits from decanting. Well rounded tannins and a lengthy finish. Prevalent dark fruits, cassis, licorice and cocoa, with slight minerality. A big winner now, and a great wine in the future. Recommended with a Thick Medium-Rare Bone-In Ribeye.

At this stage not as easily drinkable as past vintages. However, this is a really good wine that if it is rested for a few more years could be the best in some time.

--- COLOR: Opaque garnet with ruby-garnet rim NOTE: I'm just not getting any opulence on this like others, so I'm disappointed. It's a great wine to be sure. Nose is loaded with blackberry juice, tobacco, leather, tar over cracked granite, loamy earth . Mouth has an abundance of sweet, ripe tannins that express the blackberry fruit as much as the 60% dark chocolate bar. The finish turns a bit spicy, and you get a lot more nutmeg, cinnamon, vanilla all on top of the black fruits. It's a real solid wine and may even improve with time, but it doesn't knock my socks off today and probably won't in the future either. If I keep any I'll hold off until 2014 before the next bottle.

Decanted for an hour and a half. This is rich and opulent, yet graceful and well-tuned. An inky type of violet with a thin, crimson rim. Enticingly structured and extremely enjoyable at this stage. The nose is decadent, showing blackberry, cassis, insence, charcoal, white flowers, dark chocolate and honey. Layer upon layer of rich and soft tannins, then a mid-palate that evokes pure recognition. Very long; made for the cellar and worth having this holiday season. Solid winemaking and one of the best of the vintage. Drink now - 2028.

Def dense and solidly made wine. Delicious. Not a big nose, but a good, fleshy, velvety wine.

Better than I expected. Dense fruit with a long finish. Went well with my first steak in 3 months.

COLOR: Opaque garnet with ruby-garnet rim
NOTE: I'm just not getting any opulence on this like others, so I'm disappointed.
