Some tropical fruit/marzipan on the nose. There's a bit more "there there" than the Gruet or the Jansz we also tasted tonight. Medium plus acid, with a mouse champagne-like texture. Really nice, the right amount of nuttiness. Some apple/baking spice. This was the winner of the evening.

Pale straw in color with a consistent & steady stream of fine bubbles. Full, fragrant & attractive nose of green apples, pears & lemon/lime citrus overtones with yeasty notes, some floral & nutty notes & a hint of stony/minerals. Light bodied with a good concentration of well balanced & smooth textured, ripe fruit flavors of green apples, pears & lemons/limes, some yeastiness followed by chalky & mineral notes. Lingering crisp finish. Drinks quite well at present and may develop with an additional year or two of further aging.

Eight decades of Château-Chalon (back to 1934) with Jean-Francois Bourdy: This is 100% Chardonnay made in methode Champenoise, with 5-7g dosage. Jean-Francois recommends drinking this "very cold." Smooth aromas. Quite zippy, with some melon and yeasty and mineral driven notes. Fairly hefty this year. Tons of thick bubbles on the palate, which is lusciously textured. Smooth apple notes and feels fatter, sweater this year. Rich and lush but a bit strange. Slightly sweet on the finish but also showing some minerals and a metallic, slightly coating sweetness. A little astringent.

Wines with Jean-Francois Bourdy, including the legendary 1868 Marc! (E&R Wine Shop, Portland OR): Zesty and zippy aromas. Quite smooth, with some apples and minerals (particularly quartz). Creamy palate, offering zesty apples. Very nice mid-palate. Minerals and general zippiness on the finish, with some slight bitter metallicness. Enjoyable. Jean-Francois said the juice from the younger vines is used for the Cremant to produce a lower alcohol, more fruit filled wine. He actually recommended drinking this at 35 degrees Fahrenheit! He says a week in the fridge and it's even better.

Taste: There is nice balance to the tones of lemon zest, pears, and some underlying mineral tones. This also has a very good medium body along with medium+ acidity.
Overall: This was a very enjoyable cremant. I liked the mineral streak on both the nose and palate, but it could've used a little more depth.

4th time from my cellar and still excellent. Straw yellow in color. Nice mousse and bead. Floral nose with brioche and a hint of lemon. Subdued at the start, but came on with nice punch and acidity. Mouth watering blend of apple and brioche with a tad of lemon thrown in. A hard QPR sparkler to beat at $20 per bottle. If a fresh delivery, I suggest a 6 month rest in the cellar before drinking.

Jean-François Bourdy's Decades tasting: One wine from every decade of the 20th century, back to 1904 (E&R, Portland, OR): As we arrived we were greeted with a pour of the Crémant du Jura as we walked around and mingled. This was fresh and zesty on the nose, with quite expressive minerals and apples. Smells great. The palate is fresh again, and absolutely laced with minerals. Really nice acidity as well; tart and bright. The finish is a little funky at first, with odd acidity, but the odd stuff fades revealing fresher minerals and components of spiced apples. Really coats the mouth. The bitter acid at the end is a little detracting though.

Hard to find a fault with this bottle, it's got nice aromas of green apple, straw, wet rocks, and hints of bread dough. While simple, there's a nice balance, especially for $24 a bottle. The mousse is wonderfully mouth-filling, and carries a subtle lemon/mineral note that keeps the sweeter apple flavors in check. Again, well balanced on the palate and a lot of fun to drink. Good freshness.

Nice nose of yeast with a hint of lemon. Pale straw color with good mousse and bead. Smooth balanced palate of brioche and butter with a mineral streak. Went down easy and enjoyed by all. Nice price (< $20) and drink for an everyday sparkler. Some bargains and nice sparklers to be found in the Jura. This is one of them. I find that giving them some time (6 months or so) to rest in the cellar after delivery improves them. Helps to buy them from a retailer with a regular turnover.

Lemon, chalk, and a beer-like yeast character, not unlike a good Hefe. Uncomplicated though not an easy drink - it had the feeling of brassy, hard edges. Really not bad, but won't buy it again.

The mousse is wonderfully mouth-filling, and carries a subtle lemon/mineral note that keeps the sweeter apple flavors in check. Again, well balanced on the palate and a lot of fun to drink. Good freshness.

From memory. Nice and relatively savory sparkling wine, clean and proper especially when not too cool.

Thirst quenching, fine bubbles and elegant for a decent price.

Lemon, chalk, and a beer-like yeast character, not unlike a good Hefe. Uncomplicated though not an easy drink - it had the feeling of brassy, hard edges. Really not bad, but won't buy it again.
