Just opened before the dinner, requires about 30 minutes to show its best. Still very youthful and fresh but with more depth than the last bottle nearly 6 years ago. Typical Sauvignon Blanc nose with gooseberry and tropical fruits, mouth watering acidity, nice bitter note, dense and long, superb, 92+, what a nice surprise! Drink now or within the next 6 to 8 years.

Pale yellow in color, this wine reveals muted aromas of lemon curd, gooseberry and green pea on the nose. The mouth feel brought surprisingly high levels of acidity as well as more citrus aromas including lime juice. The finish paired the fading fruit and acidity well. 13.5% abv.
A gift from my boss from his wine cellar, this wine is fully mature but still pleasant to drink with surprisingly crisp remaining acidity. The overt NZ SB aromas have softened very much to the point if tasted blind, I'd identify this wine as a white Bordeaux.

Was a bit afraid about the tasting notes that it could be already over the hill. Opened and found first not much more than acidity but after 1.5 hours with air, the nose got quite exotic, passion fruit and some citrus, really good. I think this wine has plenty of time ahead.

Seemed more like my tasting notes of 10/11/2011. Did not seem as complex as the 4/24/2012 tasting. It's still a decent wine, but is now on the downward slope of its drinking plateau. I'll consume my last bottle fairly soon.

A nose of currant leaf, lemon, grapefruit, rhubarb and welcomed asparagus. Dry and crisp palate with zesty lemon bite, tart grapefruit and varied fruit character with notes from currant and rhubarb to peaches. Lengthy. Opening up nicely.

Similar to prior TNs. Less acidic than earlier bottles. Light yellow/straw color. Down to one bottle left in a case. All of the raters say drink right away, but that seems an aggressive view given how good the last 2-3 bottles have been. This wine has always been a hit when I poured it at a party. Something about it makes it a crowd pleaser.

The wine is a light, pale yellow to straw color. The fresh and tropical nose has lime, grapefruit, minerals, fresh cut grass, and orange blossoms. This has light body with tart, citrusy acidity. On the palate the crisp fruit and minerals steal the show with the grapefruit notes giving way to lime with a nice herbal edge. The finish has very good length with the lime and grapefruit allowing minerals and herbal elements to poke through. As usual, another outstanding offering from Cloudy Bay.

TQKP Dinner / Eunice's Farewell (Li Bai, Sheraton Towers, Singapore): I have not had a Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc (save for a few bottles of Te Koko) for a couple of years, so this was a good chance to get reacquainted with a label that really helped to spark my interest in wine in the mid-1990s. Unfortunately, this bottle, while pleasant enough, was nothing special - a bit meh really. It had a typical Marlborough SB nose, with tropical touches of green mango and guava along with some green asparagus scents and a little whiff of cat's pee. Given the couple of years or so in bottle, the palate showed a bit of developed richness, with a spicy warmth running through its very tropical notes of green mangoes and guava, with some citrussy lime pulling towards a pretty decent finish. There was a nice bright balance in spite of its ripe warmth, and it was a decent drink with a Cantonese meal, but I thought this was very run-of-the-mill.

Drinking well. Not tiring at all. Better the second night. Also, the fruit and flavors were more evident and fresh than with two bottles I drank in the second half of 2012

White fruit nose with notes of pitahaya and whitecurrant. Some grapefruit, slight petrol and herbs. Dry and a bit watery palate with barely adequate acidity. Round and fruity with Muscat-like green grape touch. Grapefruit dominant with some herbaceousness. Mid-length. Needs time. Going through a dull phase.

Very similar note to the last bottle tasted - still drinking very nicely indeed. On second night, flavour was if anything fuller and more rounded. Tropical notes more evident, weightier palate, longer finish. Excellent wine although PQR is questionable.

The best Cloudy Bay I've had, for sure, as I suspected with the last bottle. Together with the well integrated accidity, watermelon and an obvious lychee.

Light in color. Sharp acidity that will cut through any fish. I enjoyed it, but I'm not sure if I want to spend $25+ for this quality, which I think I can find under $20.

My last bottle, alas. Now we move on to the definitely inferior 2011. Today it is the minerality and pure sweetness on the mid-palate (together with all the more stereotypical NZ SB virtues) which make this seem like the perfect wine of the moment. Just delicious. 91P

Safe bank, well rounded with hints of peach, citrus and passion fruit. First acidity a bit strong but after additional cooling and with prawn lemon pasta it went very well. Nothing specific to get too excited but decided to serve it for its reliability and again did not disappoint.

it has everything you expect for a Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc, simply pure and clean, fresh and smooth taste, crispy and long finish. top quality in this category. (WS 92, WE 91)
Light straw color in the body. An elegant NZ sauvignon blanc with a complex nose. Aromas of orange liqueur, lemon, lime, grapefruit, a touch of mango, sweet herbs and a gentle fragrance of cut grass. Similar flavors, along with mineral components. Great mouth feel and a nice concentration of fruit. Also, a long mineral-like and almost sweet finish. The wine just keeps getting better. Score 91-92.

As always, beautiful passion fruit nose, with undercurrents of pineapple and mango. The palate is just as fruity as ever, always going to tropical fruits, but with an agreeable complexity on the finish. Good acid lengthens the finish for a few seconds. It had been a while since I'd had NZ SB and now I know I'm still in love...

This is what it is. Concentrated NZ SB, highest quality. Either you like it or you don't. Normally I do, but this evening it just a bit too acid-gooseberry-grass-tons of green fruit for my taste. 89P

Like someone noted, crisp and refreshing. Signature SB fruits on the nose, on the palate there is searing acidity and good body. Mid palate has a tinge of bitterness. More focused than other Marlborough Sauv Blancs. Expected a bit more though.

Perfekt match.

I like the fragrance of the grass on the nose (just right), along with aromas of lemon, grapefruit, lime, herbs. Same flavors, along with some mineral components. Great mouth feel and a very nice finish. The wine seems more developed from my last tasting on 3/5/11. I paired this with Turbot, baked in a Verde sauce.

Textbook Marlborough nose profile offering intense vegetality(capsicum, asparagus, grass) backed up by a strong core of lime and passion fruit. In the palate it is well balanced but with less acidity than expected(medium). Although not my style, it is well made and clean, however, it lacks complexity and mid- palate concentration. A refreshing, epressive and elegant wine to be enjoyed over the next 2 years.

Smells of typical asparagus and gooseberry, although it’s not edgy, despite the intensity; it’s a pure kind of nose, enlivened by a touch of smoke. The palate is pretty friendly, with soft medium-strength acid which, although it does manage some persistence, is hardly the razor acid that made the wine’s name 20 years ago. It’s light-medium bodied, with a chalky almost dusty texture evolving to a bone-dry finish. Is there some semillon here I wonder? Medium-length finish. It’s a pretty decent wine, but doesn’t really justify the price premium you pay for the name.

Opened this bottle with Otis who brought the 2006 Te Koko for comparison. Different styles with the Te Koko showing some oak. This was a very lively and refreshing wine. Brown Bag Wine Dinner at Two Chefs: Hue's wine. Less herbaceous than the Cloudy Bay's I used to buy by the case. It used to be allocated, and hard to get. Now it is omnipresent, but the 2010 represents a new pinnacle to me for Cloudy Bay.

Double splash decanted. Bottle breathed for 2 hours. Drank over 1.5 hours.
Nose: Vey big explosive nose. Tropical fruits, guavas and classic NZ SB notes. A bit of grassiness on the tail end and hints of green bell peppers. A nice blend of fruitiness and herbaceousness.
Taste: Big flavours on the palate as well but kept quite well in check. Sufficient acid but not as high as some super acid NZ SBs I've had before. Opulent citrus notes, green apples, tropical fruits and crushed rocks. Perhaps the white equivalent of a fruit bomb? But very delicious and enjoyable but for the same amount of money, I'd get a nice Pouilly Fume.

Light straw colour. Lovely nose; fresh cut grass, lemon and kiwi. I also get a nice whiff of blackcurrant and sweet strawberry candy on the tail. Fruit flavours and acidity balance nicely – great refreshing mouth feel. This is not a particularly challenging wine (nor do I think that’s the ambition) – just well made, instant gratification. Excellent!

I wonder what christhewino (whose TNs I normally find excellent and to the point...) had in HIS glass (CT TN 28.04.2011)? The 2010 CB SB I have in MY glass this evening is streets ahead of the 2008 and the 2009; purer, denser, racier, more complex, sexier, gooseberryer(?) and generally a better wine. Flavour? This delicious wine has more flavour than I can remember from any other SB. 91P, again. Go buy it, and drink it young, cold and with that great feeling: it doesn't get much better than THIS.

I first tried the 08 Cloudy Bay Sauv Blanc, then the 09 and now the 10. The years are the only numbers going up! I found this lightweight compared to it's predecessors. Some of the TNs for this wine are really weird. Apricot? Peach? Ahem... sorry, ladies and gentlemen. Gooseberry is - I think - the fruit you were searching for. But what a mother of a honeyed turbo-charged gooseberry! The best Cloudy Bay SB I have yet tried, way better than the '08 or the '09, it even has the makings of a textured, layered midpalate and finish (uncanny pure sweet-sour balance) after its amazingly pure, laser-beam entry. I can't quite give 92P, even though this - is in its short-lived way - a nearly perfect wine, because I had a little nip of a true 92-pointer, a freshly opened bottle of Tio Pepe, before dinner. But definitely 91P, and a big congratulation Down Under.

Very light, pale straw color. Lime, grapefruit, peach, fresh cut grass, and nice minerality on the nose. Light body with very nice, tart acidity. Classic Cloudy Bay, with the citrus leaning more towards lime than lemon/grapefruit. Clean and crisp on the palate. Nice lingering finish with the lime and green herbal notes slowly fading. Mouthwatering acidity. Perfect with pan sauteed spicy tilapia filets.

As you can surmise by my username, I have tasted a lot of SB's, and a lot of NZSB's. I haven't had a Cloudy in many years because I consider them to lack value. Upon twistoff, the nettles leapt from the botttle, inviting you in from the other side of the room. I had one glass. It was huge. The nose was over the top with grass, nettles and grapefruit. Everything was there, the balance, the fruit, and the razor-sharp acidity. It was all too much. Resealed and came back for seconds on Day 2. A harmony of components came over this wine like no other SB I've had. The nose checked down to reveal tropical notes. The mouthfeel rounded and filled out. The acidity complimented instead of running roughshod over the fruit. Magical. I think this is one SB I would consider decanting; if for no other reason than it would make a great air freshener.

Lovely NZ Sauv Blanc and a style I haven't consumed in awhile. This reminded me how much I enjoy it. On the nose this is rich with citrus fruits, grapefruit, gooseberry, lime, with robust freshly cut grass. This is a vibrant and full nose with a streak of acidity running through it. On the palate, this was again vibrant and light on its feet, but it still had a nice full fruit profile of grapefruit, lime and lemon zest. Nice notes of mineral and green grass again. Crisp lingering finish with the acid a nice refreshing and lifting touch. Beautiful wine for the price.

Pale straw color, as usual. Citrus nose, but my sniffer not up to snuff. Lime and grapefruit on the palate, with a touch of chalk. Well balanced between fruit and acidity, with moderately long finish. Very pleasant; I liked this better than the 2008, and it was an excellent foil for sushi.

Haven't had one of these in a long time, or any NZ SB for that matter. What I really LOVED about Cloudy Bay when I first had it, was how it had an amazing citrus aromatics to it, bursting with grapefruit, limes, cut grass, hay. Then, I held on to some, and had it with a little age on it.....NOT good! Totally turned me off. Well, this 2010 is a safe bet in freshness....and it brings me back to the reason why I loved CB. Just HUGE fresh and crisp citrus, laser beam grapefruit acidity, lime juice, cut grass and hay...some minerals, little bell pepper, and a pretty good cream to it as well. When the sun comes out...twist off this beauty...it will make you smile!

Flight paired w/ Cape Cod and PEI oysters. A light straw in the glass, light and lively. Intoxicating aromas upon swirl of violets, hay, tropicana. Brings me back to Marlborough where we visited the cellar door at CB on our honeymoon to NZ. Anyway, crisp acids cut through the delineated sweet tart canape and tropical fruit veil providing a refreshing palate cleanser for heavier fare to come. Nice finish and balanced structure. Tasty, not too heavy or over ripe - remaining true to its class and typicity.

Excellent! Sweaty armpits and gooseberries - a lot of minerality - classic, vibrant and young (not yet released) SB! One can really taste the minerality of this wine - I can picture the stoney rivers just a few miles away from the vineyards. This wine (and all of the Cloudy Bay wines) possess beautiful texture. The wine perhaps lacks a bit of mid palate weight but is extraordinarily pure. Lees contact and no press wine. For my taste this is the best stage to drink these wines - really young!

Fresh and crisp. Fragrant grass (not overwhelming), lemon, grapefruit. Decent fruit in the mouth. Nice finish. 90-91 rating.

Stereotypical New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc - strong nose of fresh cut grass, tart grapefruit, limes and some lemon zest. Good minerality and accidity. This wine makes me yearn for a sunny Spring day on the porch.

Sweet flowers nose, lime/citrus, green, acid, sweet. Enjoyable and easy to drink. Sweeter than the 2008 and 2009.

Have not had a Cloudy Bay for a year or two. As expected this is light and fresh - very nice as a starter!

One of the best Sauv Blancs out there and has not disappointed sinice I first tried Cloudy Bay 13 years ago. Still come back to it as it shines a bit brighter than other Marlboroughs. Grapefruit, lemon and grass on the nose. Very crisp and extremely food friendly.

Dionysia wine fair: (tasted at Dionysia) Typical New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc nose, complex sweet and fruity. Round with very good acidity levels, medium aftertaste.
