Drank in a restaurant at a reasonable price, this really showed its pedigree.

2002 Château Langoa Barton

This was far more palatable than my last time of tasting a couple of years ago, and I think the key was in the aeration. This time out I actually gave this a couple of hours in the decanter, and it helped shrug off some of the tannic grip. It is fully mature, but quite fruit forward with a good nose of plum, cherry and liquorice, and the wine has decent balance. However, it lacks depth and complexity, but it is good value for money, and has the structure to stay here for another 5 years.

1982 Château Beychevelle

This is a legendary wine, and still great value for money, with a good few bottles regularly appearing on the secondary market. This was not one of the better bottles, but with a 42 year old wine variance has to be accepted. However, it was still fabulous and fully integrated and tertiary. With the right bottle this can be a 97 pointer.
