I ought to be drinking more of this. Stupendous showing. On the first whiff, thought this a classic Cheval Blanc, but in the mouth it’s impossibly fine and ethereal. Loads of intense strawberries, roses and hawthorns, laced with just the right amount of signature greens and level of ripeness. If you love your Burgs and Bordeaux, this is two loves in one!

My first Clos Rougeard! A real pleasure and really benefitted to be the wine which was served first. As we managed to have a bit of time with it and then also come back to it. Melvin notes captures the wine well

C & YM Birthday Dinner (Empire Chinese Cuisine): Blind. Forest floor, earth, capsicum interlaced with red fruits, med acidity, dry sandy tannins. Later in the night, cassis, grass, asparagus but drinking beautifully now. Fruits gain weight as it oxidise with herbal notes adding to the complexity as oppose to the earlier pour.

Birthday celebration for C/Y: Could only be Rougeard - had such an elegant and silky texture that only the top producers have. Tannins were very fine with no rough edges, clearly from a cooler vintage without any blowsiness. A little greenness emerged with air but overall the vibrant, pure red fruit still dominated. Absolutely everything in place for this wine and my favourite of the night.

Better than ‘07 but not as good as ‘08, just another wonderful showing of Rougeard, so what’s new?
