Perfect integration of ripe fruit and grippy but gentle tannin. hints of bitter chocolate on the palate, cloves & leather on the nose, and a superb foil for the gaminess of roasted porcini mushroom Tagliatelle.

A beautiful bottle taken to an Italian restaurant. The label is a painting of a lady in a red skirt (not the CellarTracker stock picture) for the 2006 vintage. The cork was in great shape. A nose of dominant dried cherries, dried strawberries, hints of flowers, with fairly dominant leather. Very easy to drink, and to sip and enjoy, but perhaps a bit too much aging for my food pairing preference. A great match with Salami Bresiano, and pecorino cheese, and with white pizza with porchetta and vegetables / morels. At this stage of the wine’s development it is better for the wine to be enjoyed with charcuterie and cheese courses, or something lighter.

Such an improvement on 8 years ago. I note some comments suggesting this might lack ambition, but I found it quite deep in colour with slight orange notes and a forthcoming nose reminiscent of chestnut and mahogany. Tannins firm but fine. Quite imposing and no need to rush to consume.

Decanted 2 hours. A blast of ripe fruit beautifully integrated with assertive but sweet tannin and a finish that goes on and on. Leather, cherries and coffee on the nose. Went a treat with Mushroom Pappardelle and St, Agur. It has come such a long way since I last tried it 2 years ago and looks good to hold its own for a while.

Wow, was this good. We drank our first 2 bottles in 2016 - it was excellent then, and it's better now. We did some amazing tours/tastings in Montalcino in 2014, but one of our most memorable Brunello experiences was in Siena, eating lunch at the Brunelli’s restaurant. We ordered a bottle from our server, and Laura Brunelli brought it out to us. That kicked off the whole experience. She and Mirco, her business partner, were amazing hosts and lovely people. Great food, great wine - none of it prearranged - we were there for over 3 hours! We slow ox’d this beauty for maybe an hour and served with Pappardelle with Puttanesca. It opened up beautifully throughout the meal. It’s everything we want in a Brunello - gorgeous fruit, soft tannins, spice, earthy. Swirl, sip, eat, repeat. The sign of a happy place wine: a simple, delicious meal becomes much longer as every sip and bite are savoured. This can age further, but it’s in such a sweet spot right now for our palates, I won't let my remaining bottles go much longer.
