In a nice place and pretty open for business. Definitely a touch rustic, with a deep earthiness, red fruits, moderate acidity and tannins. There’s certainly some complexity here. Good stuff!

2 days in San Francisco; 4/2/2023-4/3/2023 (San Francisco): This was also available by the glass at Absinthe. This is not your old school Gouges as it is fairly open and ready to go with cranberries, raspberries, sour red cherries, earth notes, brown spices, violets, and a touch of tobacco leaf. The Medium bodied feel is balanced with a slightly rustic kick along with crisp, medium+ acidity and silky, medium tannins. This is in a really good spot right now and will also age for plenty of years to come. I was expecting something a little harsh tbh, instead, it's classic NSG from one of the classic NSG producers.

Translucent ruby with a slight orange rim. Wet leaves, raspberry, and cherry notes on the nose. Lightly perfumed. Deep and full-bodied, a little sappy on the palate. Very soil-driven, with just a small amount of dried red fruit on the palate, with fresh acidity and fine tannins. A nice, earthy wine, this has the structure to go for several more years but I only worry it will outlast what fruit there is left.

Brief note from memory. Served at Christmas lunch with roast capon. Really tight on opening, but as this aired loosened up to deliver a delightful, earthy and red fruited expression of Pinot. Great accompaniment to the food, this was juicy and generous with plenty of sous bois notes to support the umami in the food. Hit the spot!

Dark red fruit: cherries and cranberries, meaty notes and spices. Round tannins and softened acidity. In a very good spot right now.
