A Private Rhone Paulee in London: Young green and yellow fruit. Not as mature as the ‘12 served alongside but more high definition. Really nice and fresh. 94

Honeysuckle, green fennel, tangerine oil, crushed rocks, finish of lemon butter cream. This had a nice wave of tension on the finish but was a little closed and not as profound as older vintages when I’ve had them at 3-4 years. Still a really nice wine. 93/100 for now.

97 vvPunkte

Young greenish color with gold highlights. In the nose a bit of smoke, then custard with a hint of pineapple, then a hint of meat and spice, then why does this strike me like a really fine new world Chardonnay? Vibrant nose. In the mouth this is big, comes across as tannic, chalk, huge sweetness of fruit still with some balancing acidity, reminds me of a very fine, young vendange tardive Alsatian wine. The finish is still going five minutes later, longer. Too young but very enjoyable. I think this will stand up nicely to crab cakes fried in butter with a spicy sour cream-based sauce. Edit: Turns out this was best for the first hour; plenty of size and complexity but not enough backing acidity as this sat longer.

Flowers, crushed rocks, peaches, tangerines, honeysuckle and spice create the attention grabbing perfume. It is the concentration that comes from the old vines paired with the creamy acidity and freshness that make this such a unique experience. The palate is oily, fruity, spicy and vibrant with a lemon, peach and mandarin orange, chalky finish that steals the show. This should age extremely well. Drink from 2026-2039.
