Sadly this was off. Clearly the cork didn’t hold, very premature oxidation / aging. Very much like port with the plum notes and vinegar from corked nature.
If I didn’t know the vintage I would have said it’s 30-40 years old and was past it’s prime
I can see this being good

Powerful nose of red currants, vanilla, and white oak. Chocolate and mocha hits the palate with surprising intensity and richness for such an old wine, somewhat overwhelming the red red fruit underneath. An herbal acidity streak follows and leads into a finish of oak, rich soil and fat tannins that still have a light chewiness, adding black cherries, currant, bay leaf, and a hint of white pepper. Impressive.

This bottle is phenomenal right now! Soft tannins, wonderfully complex flavors of baked cherries, baking spices, some tart cranberries, smooth chocolate, savory meat juices and hints of earth. Medium bodied cab with a medium/long finish. Fantastic!

We took delivery of all these when we left the wine club, so we've had some older wines to consume that have perfect provenance. This had a ton of sediment in the neck and was a little funky when I opened it. Maybe a little free SO2 in the bottle. But that went away and this was delicious, if a little big for my taste. Definitely as mature as you'd want to get, and this wasn't going to get better. Perfectly good for the beginning of grilling season with a simple rib eye, grilled okra, potatoes, etc.
