Dim sum at Triple Crown (Chicago, IL): #19-95, 8% abv. From half-bottle. Yeah, this is a Cronenberg wine, all out of proportion in a way that keeps the wine impeccably balanced. Pours like motor oil, but the brown colour isn't too dark here. On the palate, there is the classic, screaming acidity of rieslaner, which you almost need to have because of how sweet this wine is. Caramel, brown sugar, citrus peel, and a whole host of other good things, this is classic Hans-Günter Schwarz magic.

Riesling Study #1 (Atoboy (Manhattan, NY)): Serious palate fatigue here but I had a quick sip and it showed all the great characteristics of a HGS monster - huge acid and huge sugar totally balanced - molasses and kumquat and quince and dried apricot and all that. Amazing.

The acidity is intense, still very much balanced by the wine. It doesn’t feel particularly sweet anymore though. Black tea, beeswax, a little quince. Very nice
