Opera Wine 2017 - 100 Great Producers (Verona, Italy): Yet another winner from Ippolito, and from a vintage that many assumed (remember, this vintage produced a Monfortino in Barolo) was awful in Italy. Well, Italy's a pretty big place, or at a minimum, it's a very diverse place, which is to say that Gaggliopo, and this wine in particular, did quite well. The wine is full-bodied, with a savory, leather meets tobacco middle, a really persistent, early-maturity finish that lasts nearly a minute, and flavors that are broad and deep. The EtOH here may have been an issue at release, but today it's fully resolved. A delicious wine, and a wine that's easily recommended+. A producer you should know, as much for their whites as their rosés and reds.
