  • Quite deep yet moderately translucent black cherry color. Very rich, brooding and somewhat un-Burgundian nose with aromas of steak tartare, perfumed cocktail cherry tones, a little bit of cranberry sauce and a hint of allspice. The wine is moderately full-bodied, ripe and quite round on the palate with rich, juicy flavors of ripe cranberries, tart lingonberries, some sour cherry bitterness and a meaty hint of umami. The wine is quite burly and heavy-set for an entry-level Burgundy, but the moderately high acidity and balanced bitterness bring some nice sense of balance to the wine. The tannins feel quite ripe and more textural than grippy. The finish is quite long, somewhat bitter and slightly grippy with flavors of tart lingonberries, sour cherry bitterness, some ripe dark berries, a hint of meaty umami and a touch of licorice.

A relatively big and fleshy entry-level Burgundy that performs a lot better than the vintages 2008 and 2007 that were tasted alongside. The nose feels somewhat odd and slightly atypical for a Burgundy, making the wine smell partially like a ripe New Zealand Pinot Noir and partially not like Pinot Noir at all. On the palate the wine is fortunately a lot more typical, but also showing obvious characteristics of this atypically warm vintage. A good wine, but nothing remarkable.
