La Digoine is a meticulously crafted single-vineyard Pinot Noir, birthed from the 1.8 hectares of terroir where aged vines, between 35 and 45 years old, sink their roots into a blend of clay and limestone. During harvest, a rigorous selection process ensures that only the best fruit is chosen, with around two-thirds of the grapes traditionally fermented as whole clusters. Post-fermentation, the wine matures in barrels over a period ranging from 10 to 12 months before it finds its way to the bottle.
In the glass the La Digoine 2020 shines in a surprisingly intense ruby red color captivating the eye. On the palate a harmonious mingling of both red and dark cherries is adorned with the rustic notes of dried herbs and an undercurrent of spices. Upon tasting, the palate is graced with a spectrum of vibrant fruit aromas. The structure is defined by tannins that are both ripe and assertive, contributing to the wine’s balance, yet they subtly hint at the warmth of the vintage that they cannot entirely mask. La Digoine stands out as a splendid introduction to the complexities of Burgundy wines, offering an accessible indulgence for both novices and seasoned aficionados of the region, at a price point that is as alluring as the wine itself.

During a 2020 Burg walkabout tasting, so only brief impressions. The vintage showed very well indeed for both reds and whites. The reds were dense, fresh with good structure like the 2016, the whites pure with good fruit core similar to 2019 and definitely more refined than the plush 2018. TN: Good aromas on the nose, red fruit, spices but a bit thin and dry.

Too young perhaps. A tad too acidic.
