Chicago Wine Flock..."Wines Bob G Generously Shared" (Lincoln Park, Chicago IL): Tasted double blind in what turned out to be 1960s California flight. This was certainly the highlight of this flight. Black fruit with spice hints and classy Bordeaux-like elegance. Very fresh for its age. Almost everybody's favorite in the flight.

From a nice looking bottle with a VTS fill, this wine had a deep red/purple center with some orange at the rim. It looked amazingly young. The medium intensity nose displayed plum, cherries, Napa "red dust", and some brown spices.
In the mouth, this wine had an amazingly silky texture of a top flight Pomerol. It took 4 hours of decanter time to develop fully. The light rounded tannins, solid acidity, and nice length were attractive. This wine was quite refined but there was no mistaking the quality of the wine making.
While not wildly complex, this was a very attractive wine. I loved its balance and subtlety. It certainly got me excited to taste the cask offerings.

Great wine for 51 years of age. Still had a bit of body. Tawney, Plum, Rasin, dark cherry fruit. One of the people with us detected a hint of smoke (I didn't). Had a little astringency right down the center of the tongue. You can taste the old Rutherford dust in it. The wine is just well made and this original Inglenook classic is not a wine to be missed.

Fruit, dirt, tobacco, with some spice. Finishes with some subtle oak and eucalyptus. It's very good. One could only hope the current Rubicon hold up as well as this wine. It was spectator for the age.

Smell tobacco, earthy and a hint of black fruit.
