I got this bottle in 1973. Kept it in a basement until 2016, then in a wine fridge. Unknown to me, my wife found it and opened it by accident this past weekend. She served the 1st 2 glasses mixed with lemon strawberry sparkling water over ice. When I found out I was absolutely horrified. I suppose they were the best 53 year old, $60 wine coolers I have ever had. The 1 goblet remaining was wonderful.

Lots of smoke, tobacco, cedar and cassis here, on the palate and in the perfume. Medium-bodied, bright, crisp and crunchy, the finish is a bit tart, but it is still quite nice to taste.

Even better showing tonight! Should not be decanted, but holds up nicely for a couple of hours. Fruit holding up, no mouth drying tannins, fruit at the core, impeccable balance. great class...

First older bottle of Inglenook and certainly not the last... Outstanding condition with fill level well into the neck and cork, although remarkably short, is great condition. Given the age of the wine and my lack of familiarity with these wines, I chose not to decant. This turned out to be the right decision, as the wine only held up a fairly short time in glass ( 20-30 minutes). Excellent color intensity and hue, belying its age with only moderate browning. Evolved aromas of earthy and spicy components and fruit liqueur. Good underlying acidity and remarkable balance. Not familiar with 1967 vintage conditions but excellent balance in this wine. It shows what Napa could have done, had they chosen the correct path... Drink soon.

Old Inglenooks (White Bear Lake, MN): Medium brick red throughout. PNP and filtered into decanter. 3oz pour over an hour. Still held some interest at first, started to break down after about 20 minutes. The nose has dried red fruits, dried cherry, brown sugar, and then develops a distinct celery root note as it comes apart. The palate is quite light bodied, dried red fruits, sour cherry, tart cherry, old leather, resolved tannins, olive tapenade, still some good acid, medium- short finish. Fun to try and interesting, but barely keeping its head above water.
