  • A bit astringent upon opening, but this quickly subsided. On the nose this has very elegant notes of strawberry, red cherry, blood orange and rose, but also some darker cherry, cream, cinnamon. On the palate, the same can be noticed, but the blood orange and dark cherry especially shine through. It is an absolute explosion in the mouth, and still drinking quite young. The wine has good acidity, still some noticeable oak and tannins with a slight bitterness, and a long finish. I have seen people describe this as a cross between Pinot Noir and Nebbiolo, and although this is clearly Pinot Noir, I can see why.

  • Luis Does Tilia (Tilia, Mpls): Medium red color. PNP, drank a glass over 90 minutes. Wow, this nose really pops; filled with immense and complex floral character, potpourri, rose petals, dried leaves, cinnamon, baking spice, very lifted on the nose. The palate has intensity with excellent acid and crispness, medium bodied with black cherry, raspberry compote, hints of menthol and the sandalwood on top of a juice blood orange infusion on the mid to back end. Delicious! Love the way the '11's are drinking.

  • Back at TIlia with Luis' group: Opened the bottle at home and drank at a restaurant 3 hours later. Split 10 ways, I wish I had more wine to assess this. Others were gushing over it, and I thought it was fairly classic Willamette Oregon with an earthy profile, but a bit subdued. I suspect some more air would have helped, or its possible that this vintage is on the downward curve.

  • Dinner in the Provinces - Redux! W/Mirela/Todd/Valerie (Chez Walker - Princeton, NJ): First red of the evening. Paired with seared duck breast on cabbage, side of squid ink pasta...it needed an earthy pairing that would complement the dish. Decanted for 90 minutes prior.

Bright ruby red color, slightly opaque. Nose showing red berries, mineral, floral/lavender, mineral notes. Earthy palate showing raspberry, bitter cherry, red licorice, cola, floral pastille. Earth notes, mineral and floral go through the mid palate. Medium weight and finish.

In a fabulous spot at this point and a worthy pairing, big hit with our crowd.
