Well balanced, slightly on the sweeter side for syrah. This had just a joyful little bounce on the mid-palate finish which brought a smile to my lips after a sip. Plush too.
Beat out a 2013 Bedrock Wine Co. Heritage Wine Gibson Ranch and 2007 Tenimenti d'Alessandro Syrah Cortona Il Bosco tonight -- this seemed the most balanced yet with power and fruit.

Coravin pour. Took 30 minutes to open up, and sang after that. Juicy ripe fruit, spice, and a long finish with a touch of complexity. Hit the spot tonight - just tasty!

(K Vintners Syrah The Deal Sundance Vineyard) Hello friends. We have small parcels of a trio of rarities from K Vintners’ (or Wines of Substance, as it seems the umbrella company will now be called) recent set of autumn releases. Our K/Substance offers are always feeding frenzies, so let me offer two quick notes: 1. To the best of my knowledge, we have retail dibs on all three of these wines west of the mountains. 2. I suspect we’ll have to under-allocate here, given the parcel sizes, so a quick reminder of our allocation technique: Our allocations favor breadth over depth, so that everyone gets one bottle before anyone gets two. And our formula for prioritizing allocations includes overall orders, frequency of orders, recency of orders, and list tenure, among other factors. Now, onto the wines: Wine Advocate: Copyrighted material withheld. The Deal is what it sounds like – an incredible value – and one we’ve only been able to offer one other time in the past five years. This is a rare opportunity to access one of K’s best bang-for-the-buck Syrahs. It comes from Sundance Vineyard, one of the oldest Syrah sites on the Wahluke Slope, planted in 1997. Done all whole-cluster, all native-yeast, it spent 39 days on skins before ageing in 40% new French oak puncheons for 20 months. The Deal clocks in at 14.5% listed alc, and here are the K notes: I smell coarse black sand, volcanic granules that mix with the sand and gravel that makes Sundance Vineyard. That is just the beginning. Full and delicious, green herbs, cooked meat and seashells layer into this complete beguiling earthbound Syrah.
