A very interesting and very much alive bottle at Union Square. Not at all like their L’Enfant Jesus. Instead of the soft, Beaune elegance and mild complexity, this wine displayed rustic force:medium dark garnet with integrated tannins,a forceful kick of cherry interwoven with brambly flavors and a very narrow flavor profile concentrating on the mild but not fruity dark cherry, moist earth and some old wood. Very nice to accompany a lively meal but not an object of contemplation.

Chinese New Year (Gen Hoe): CNY. Courtesy of AB and showing nicely but has plenty in reserve. Cherry and earth with a nice minerality. I suspect this will be even better with a few more years in the cellar.

Medium red plus color. Double decanted. Drank a small glass over an hour. Very nice nose, evolves over 30 minutes, dried earth, dusty, dried cherry, dried red plum, pipe tobacco, tobacco leaf, and then this really develops a floral perfume of roses and oregano. The palate is lighter medium bodied, nice acid, tart cherry, tart raspberry, earth, tobacco, tangy. Very good right now. Can go a couple years longer.

Second Sunday Group: 2006 vs 2007 Napa Cabs/Blends (R&D's): Courtesy of Marty, another that I thought was rather tight and perhaps not showing all it has. Cherry and earth. Seems to have everything it needs, perhaps a brief decant would have helped, as I sensed that there was a really nice wine in there somewhere.

Bouchard Pere et Fils with Gilles de Larouziere (NoMad Cupola): An awesome wine. Smokey, meaty bacon notes. Big mouth filling body with great length. This will easily last another 10-20 years.
