Dinner with Monthly Group at Yan (Yan, National Gallery, Singapore): Absolutely delicious. Rather riper than a classic Kabinett and still very primary, but this was very nice when paired with Lo Hei and a variety of other Cantonese dishes. On the nose, a little stream of petroleum drifted past ripe aromas of stone fruit, vanilla bean and flinty mineral. The palate was a lovely dance of bright, lemony acidity with pure stone fruit flavours, with white peach at the fore, and the a lovely floral lilt. It packed a real punch with a great seam of energy and easily Spatlese depth. Strong finish too, driven along with sweet lemons and a quiet mineral note. Not the most complex, but very yummy, and will improve.

The nose explodes with tart stone fruits (pear, fresh, green apples, and white peaches), apricot preserves, pie crust, a hint of orange rind, and lots of slate. The palate opens with bright and intense acidity and presents a wonderful, granular texture. Despite the laundry list of descriptors, the wine finishes rather simply, leaving little but Green Apple Jolly Ranchers. And more residual sugar lingers than I would have expected. A very enjoyable wine right now, but I'd love to revisit this in a few years to see if the palate gains complexity.

Quite restrained nose with some apple and alcohol. But then a very juicy and soft taste full of apple, plums and ripe tangerines. I especially loved the complex harmony of sweet and sour notes. Very long finish. Tastes more like a Spätlese than a Kabinett. Has great potential.

Pear on the nose which was somewhat restrained, bright acid, slightly sweet, a tad fizzy.
