  • Q4 2910 Wine Club - Aged Spaniards (The Apt): Wine #9: Had never heard of this producer, but I found myself quite liking this wine as well. I think I appreciate the ones that have a bit more spice notes which this very much did. Some dried fig. Some leather. In a very nice drinking window. Drinks younger than the 41 years. (3 pennies)

  • Dim Sum Club at Madam Fan (Madam Fan, South Beach, Singapore): This was lovely - showing off that perfect old-Tempranillo marriage of sweetness and light. The nose had a waft of leathery funk and earth wrapped around a core of sweet American oak notes, and the red fruited strawberry aromas spiked with bits of spice and herb. It was remarkably fresh on the palate, with livewire acidity running through clear, sweet notes of slightly dried strawberries and darker cherry flavours, laced with a nice line of spice and a twist of orange peel as it glided into a long finish. Fresh, lively, but also wonderfully mellow and integrated. A delicious drop, drinking wonderfully now.

  • Pop and poured. Stood upright for weeks already. Cork came out clean. At home.
Appearance is clear, pale intensity, garnet colour. Thin legs.
Nose is clean, medium intensity, with aromas of savoury earth, mushrooms, dried flowers, red plums. Developed.
On the palate, dry, medium acidity, medium alcohol (13%), totally integrated medium- tannin, medium body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of red plum, blood orange, sour red cherry, mushroom, savoury earth, tobacco ash, slight bitter chocolate. Long finish.
Very good quality. Complex, with surprising intensity and a long finish to boot. The last bottle of very aged Rioja in my cellar. Was initially planning on giving up on this category of very old wines. But after this bottle, FAITH IN VERY AGED (well kept) WINES RESTORED!

De color rubí rojizo de capa media-alta, extraído, brillante. Reflejos cobrizos y granadinos, luminoso.

  • For me, this wine was gone. It still had structure, but there was nothing left in terms of fruit. An odd juxtaposition.
