1st and 2nd (on 6/10) of 12, pnp, perfect corks and levels - lightish gold, unctuous; fine complex, fresh bouquet with attractive tropical fruit elements; fullish, v long and persistent with fine concentration and lift, fresher if without same weight as Sauternes, plateau, 25+ years. F+ (18).

Loire Wines of North London (Must & Lees): Felt slightly closed, both compared to the 1989s tonight and also a bottle of this I had last year. Still a delicious wine though, and distinctively savoury, like sweet Chenin soaked into buttered brown toast.

TWS North London - Loire (Must & Lees, N1): Compared with the 1989 that preceded it, this has a little less weight and more clarity, delineation. Perhaps more interesting - even if there's less of a wow factor. I certainly enjoyed a subtle cheesy note, the exceptional acidic structure, and a lingering smokiness on the finish.
