Denis Mortet horisontal vintage 2003 Winetasting dinner (16 btls) (Nordsjælland): Tasted 11 cuvees from Denis Mortet vintage 2003 and 5 other domaines for comparison reasons. We are talking about one of the most criticized vintages, but the tasting was a surprise. I gave 90 points or more to 9 out of 11 cuvees. All wines were garnet in color showing the tertiary development stage, but not too much, which I personally find un charming. The winner was Le Chambertin which I scored 97 closely followed by Clos de Vougeot (96). No. 3 was Lavaux St. Jacques (93).
This wine: As mentioned the winner of the evening. The drinking window is perfect right now. Still fruit but also tertiary notes Outstanding! Medium garnet color. Notes of strawberry and other red fruit, elegant/delicate both on the nose and palate, in perfect balance. Develops positively in the glass - needs time - remember that. On the palate: Velvety, high acidity, medium+ tannins. Long finish

A bigger wine compared to the 05 LSJ side by side but not as delicate. Still think LSJ is old Mortet’s sweet spot.
