Mostly Giacosa and Conterno dinner (RPM Italian, Washington D.C.): The color is brown so I am not expecting much. Clearly advanced but interesting nose, a hint of kerosene, raw white button mushroom , Japanese plum wine and a hint of madeira. The palate is significantly worse, very flat and cloying, also strong madeira. I have had a few good Stoney Hill Chardonnays from the 80s and when correct, they are quite steely, mineral and fresh meriting low 90s for my palate.

Moderate copper-gold color. Nose shows a bit of oxidation/maderization along with fruit and a bit of minerality. Palate shows a fully-alive age chardonnay, with enough fruit, layers of flavors and balancing acid to carry its age with dignity. Good long finish with no off flavors.
