  • Even ruby. Prototypical Burgundian nose-char and wafting red fruit. Medium to full bodied, wonderfully sappy, and a tad too much oak. Nevertheless, excellent ripe cherry fruit, a savory touch, round tannins, and outstanding length. Surprisingly open and ready for a 2009 Grand Cru.

  • The 2009 Mongeard Mugneret Richebourg is one of the best value for money Richebourg. My second bottle and just as delicious. Sweet and fragrant bouquet of dark cherries, sweet spices and rose petals. Full bodied with good acidity and well-integrated oak spices. Young and very approachable already. Stood out in the Vosne Romanee blind tasting flight, my bottle 2009 Mongeard Mugneret Richebourg? (93/100)

  • My first time with this producer. Served blind in a themed line-up of Vosne 1er and GC this was in fact the only GC (the other 6 having been 1er Crus) and somewhat justice was done as this was voted red WOTN. For me too, it was the standout red of the evening. Somewhat murky looking in the glass (either unfiltered juice or end of a barrel) it immediately seduced on the nose with sous bois, wild strawberries. I thought it to be a 2007 as it did not come across as particularly warm vintage. Very intense on the palate but not big - deep aromas of cranberry and forest strawberry, nice minerality. Certainly thought of a very nice Grand Cru. Based on this putting the producer on the map for me. Well done!

  • The Mongeard Mugneret Richebourg 2009 was voted for wine of the night in blind by most, followed by Joseph Drouhin Petits Monts 2006 (which I also adored!). Tasted blind – A pungent nose of fresh dark berries intertwined with muscular new oak spices (Meo Camuzet oaking style?), deep earthy flavour underneath the summer flowers and mocha. Proper Premier Cru weight if not Grand Cru! Great phenolic ripeness and juicy fruits. Aux Reignots 2009? (94/100)
