  • Nose: strawberry, rose petals, red fruits, smoke, cherry tomato, spices, sweet candy, hawthorn berry
Notes: the Richebourg has an amazing nose that seems to be surreal. Upon opening the palate however is a little green and still awaits further development. After 3.5 hours this wine is very clean and it is a stunner, an incredible mix of fruits together with all the desirable notes you might find in a top Burgundy. I have been and I suspect I will always be an admirer of this Domaine. Although this wine has not been the favorites of prominent wine critics in this region but I have had wonderful experiences with its wines, especially from its more vintaged products and top crus. This 2004 Richebourg is a perfect example of my point and it is elegant, balanced and mysterious at the same time. Although this can easily be kept for another 15-20 years I do think that we are stepping into the ideal drinking window now but if one has the patience to wait for 2-3 more years I think it will be even more expressive and fine. One should note that despite crazy prices in Burgundy wines in recent years, MM actually hasn't caught up in price as much as the other big names in Burgundy. This is a wine that is worth collecting in my opinion.

  • The colour points to a much older wine, fully brown and a touch cloudy. On the nose it is very classical burgundy, with good fruit and light secondary notes of earth. On the palate it is ok but not at Grand Cru level and although it has very little of the 2004 ladybug bitterness still it is relatively simple and depth and complexity expected. Quite evolved and we would suggest one drinks this sooner than later. 89-90

  • Burgundy Night At PDH (New York): Lucky me, I'm extremely sensitive to TCA and Greenie Meanies, and boy did I get the GMs in this wine. At first sniff, there were rather expressive red fruits intertwined with green peppers, but as it breathed the GMs came to the fore, masking any fruit for me. A few sips was all I could handle before going on the next wine. YMMV if you're not as sensitive to me, but what can I say, I'm a sensitive guy.

  • Andrew's Birthday (Jade Palace, Forum): Pale. Quite approachable both aromatically and on the palate but again this was a creature of the 2004 'greenness' which did not blow off within 3 hours despite decanting. To be fair it was not aggravating like other examples but still could be picked up easily in a blind-tasting. Menthol, Malay spice and orange peel were discernible on the medium-bodied and rather under-ripe palate. I can't deny that the tannins were super silky and the length was definitely grand cru standard but the element of 'presence' which exists in great Richebourgs is missing. It could be due to the vintage and the lack of phenolic ripeness (mentioned in BH's tasting note). However, this is still a technically well "made" wine chez Mugneret albeit one which lacks a soul.

  • 2010 Simple Dinner Series No.9 – Rhone God’s Birthday (Jade Palce @ The Forum Shopping Mall): Alcohol :: 13.5%
The highly expressive, truly enchanting aromas just soar from the glass! Super focus, precise and fragrance with Vosne spice (but not truly refine, maybe need time to polished up), sweet red cherry, fresh strawberry with stem and minerals that show good depth, with a touch more orange flavor to show good freshness. This is quite primary on the round, intense palate dominant by Asian spices and grounded coffee bean note with umami, perfume floral and some dark fruits. Good power but warm and friendly, not hard to approached. The super duper silky, velvety texture with vibrant, lively acidity lifted the overall profile with good grip, finesse and complexity that flow on to the finish that last more than 30sec, excellent. I like this and I would love this if it is more refine and broader scale and depth that I would expect from a Richebourg? Due to the vintage? Buy - Maybe.
