  • Medium translucent ruby color. PNP, split bottle over 3 hours. This was a special bottle that we brought back from a trip to Burgundy two years ago. We had a memorable visit and tasting with winemaker and son, Francois Leclerc. His passion and dedication to the vineyard were most impressive. Right now that seems like forever ago. We'd been looking for a reason to open it and tonight that worked out. This has a beautiful nose, filled with iron, floral infused iodine, high toned dried spices of cardamom and cinnamon, dried flowers, red berries, and dried forest floor. The palate is mid weight, bright red berry fruit, red currants, dried forest floor, iodine, dried spice, blood meal and refined tannins. This is lifted, elegant and has lovely purity. Just a treat. 93+pts.

  • Goes to show that this needed more time, but not too much. "Right now" seems like the right window -- though should hold and be excellent for a while. Nice red-ish fruit. Great texture. Very earthy which, for this taster, is a definite plus. Yum.

  • Not as transparent as a lot of Burgundy - but that is the style for this winemaker. Aroma is bursting with medium red fruits and a healthy dose of baking spice and earth. Smooth and polite mouthfeel. The finish needed some time to develop but met expectations.

  • Great color, solid legs, nose of terroir, cherries and black fruit. High acid with mild tannins so for me the wine is too young but has some aging potential. Medium weight on the palate with good balance and complexity but needs 2-3 more years. Here is where things get tough. Now that I'm 2 years on in my quest of Burgundy my perspectives have changed. While still a good wine and still a favorite, it will appear I am inconsistent in scores since I downgraded to 90. Why? Not because the wine has changed in any way other than youthful but because I have much more experience in the class now and my Burgundy palate is more discriminating. Still a great wine at the price point.

  • Red-fruited. Nice overall Gevrey character. At its best when earthiness shines through which, happily, is frequently. Try again in about a year.
