A bit backward on opening for the double-decant. After 7 hours the nose and palate integrate. Plenty of fruit still and structure with the tannins receding (if not resolved) and the acidity softening. Very good, but I don’t think this would suffer for another 5 years of cellaring. But that’s more a matter of taste than a qualitative judgement. Delicious with pasta with wild mushrooms.

Lovely soft nose of soft tar and roses -- classic nebbiolo/barolo profile along with a hint of menthol. The palate is chewy, with a leathery, dark fruit character and then the tannins start to take over and it's a very signficant, pleasing, integrated hit of dry, smooth tannins.

It's really blossomed. Huge nose of light tar and earth. Palate is rich and chewy with leather, dark berries. Very integrated tannins that give a long finish. A great barbaresco that has really come to a peak.

My 2009 note is fine but overall I'm not as positive about the wine. The important points are, 1) must decant for an hour or more for this to come together and round the aggressive tannins; 2) slightly reticent fruit of tar, cherry, slight mint and some orange starting to develop; 3) dense for Nebbiolo almost like water was removed from the grapes; 4) enjoyable with food, slightly uneven, rustic, even after the decant. Wait for more elegance but I'm not sure this has the right mix to be stellar.
