  • Slow o'ed for 2.5 hours before pouring. Aromas are quite soft and elegant, though not too complex. Very lovely earth, wet stained wood decking, nice soft plums and darker old fruit. Yes, not a ton going on, but what is there is lovely. Palate entry is equally pretty; beautiful soft fruit, mild tannins (but most definitely present), great acid, and a enveloping sweet earthiness that's very lovely. Finishes tannic, acidic, and opens like a flower after swallowing, as that acid just sweeps the palate and caresses the tongue. Nice bright black raspberries linger for some time after swallowing. After drinks in succession the acidity and tannins really kick in. A beautifully resolved Brunello drinking what I believe to be its peak. There's definitely a lot of gritty tannins left, but the overall package is very nice today. When this wine was released over 15 years ago, James Suckling of the Wine Spectator called this "a drink-now Brunello"... do not age. Going on 20 years, I feel it's safe to say this is drinking far better than it was then. Glad I had this glimpse.
