  • nose - sour plum, or even a light varnish smell
mouth - still a big wine. Has red berry/plum type flavor that is seductive, powerful, and very long, followed by mouthcoating puckering tannins. Starting to develop some secondary characteristics as well. At age 14 this is powerful yet relatively balanced. Amazingly, i think it could stand a little more bottle age. It will likely gain additional complexity but i dont think it will ever mellow out - the tannins are just too massive.

  • The 97 Barolos I had so far (compared to 96) seem to be in a perfect drinking window right now.

A nice bouquet of violets and sweet cherries intermingling with all sorts of spices which lingers around quite long. On the palate I can agree with kdawg, its a refined barolo leaning on the feminine side. I still think my last bottle can be enyoyed over the next 10 years.

We had this beautiful wine with tajarin and white truffle from Umbria ( it does not always have to be from Alba). As a secondi we enyoyed beef loin cooked at low temperatures.

  • nose: pretty and feminine nose with lovely tones of roses, dark red cherries, roasted herbs, various spice tones, red florals and some perfumes. Very good depth with the nose being very fragrant after taking a slight bit of time to open up

taste: elegant and demure medium feel with good tannins and medium acidity along with pretty tones of red florals, roses, bits of red cherries and berries, along with a good bit of roasted herbs as well. Very balanced with a silky texture as well that has a refined sense to it

overall: this took about an hour to really open up and it was a very pretty wine when it did. More feminine and elegant with a very perfumed nose and refined feel on the palate. This is in a great place right now and is a real pleasure to drink

  • nose: beautiful nuanced and subtle nose that takes a bit to get going. Once it gets going, lovely tones of fresh strawberries, wild flowers, rose petals, crushed herbs, and subtle tones of red cherries. excellent depth that really draws you in with its feminine and delicate tones

taste: lovely and demure feel with nuanced tones of fresh strawberries, wild flowers, crushed herbs, rose petals, with hints of star anise that seem to lie beneath the immeadite surface. Good medium+ acidity to compliment the lovely feel

overall: a beautiful barolo that is right in its window. Can definitely go for a good amount of time, but one would not be ashamed to open one of these now and just enjoy the beauty that is this wine. Takes a bit to get going as it was decanted for ~1 hour and then took about another hour in the glass to really open up
