Random wines tasted during service (Oinoscent): Decanted for 1hr before tasting Earthy, spicy, red cherry, sour cherry, raspberry, peppery, smoky, toasty tannins. Palate is balanced, spicy, sour cherry, fine texture, silky smooth, med body, long finish Outstanding.

This is a real brute of a wine but I fear I kept this bottle too long as it is dry and alcoholic with not much fruit. I have one last bottle so will post again if any better. I am riddled with guilt, what a waste!

Friday Dinner at Friends' House (Pok Fu Lam, Hong Kong): Opened and drank over a couple of hours at the end of dinner. Opaque purple-red colour just reaching transparent at the edges. Nose is a tractor trailer-load of straw-infused cow dung......mesmerising. Palate is smooth, velvety, very low acidity...... reminds me of old velvet-covered antique furniture. Belly-filling fruit and nicely hedonistic but less than compelling after a first mouthful. Actually, the palate is really rather flat and monotone. Very dry finish. Far from perfect and a bit rustic....but, man, I love that shittyness.

Medium garnet-red color, murky; sediments goopy. Sauvage nose: dusty bookstore, sweaty horse, pungent garrigue, beef blood, cranberry, black pepper. On arrival, medium tannin, medium-low acidity. Cranberry, meaty-gamy notes and strong black pepper repeat in the mouth. Dry tannin in the finish. It's a sturdy big boy with the rough on (unfiltered.) Love-hate responses around our table.
