  • Poured into decanter and started drinking. Just a little sediment. On the nose plenty of tar, toasted oak and dark fruit, initially fairly round and rich dark cherries but with more air the fruit profile become much more compact, incredibly concentrated but not overripe, almost like black currant jam, savory but not oxidative, medium tannins. Medium length.
Not a classic Barolo by any means but an interesting and well made wine of high quality. At this point in time I find it more interesting and impressive than truly enjoyable but a bit more time in bottle could bring things into balance. Will try my next bottle in 1-2 years. 93+

  • 2007 Barolo Zoom tasting. Drank in Conterno Sensory.
Appearance is clear, deep intensity, ruby colour with very thin garnet rim. Legs.
Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of mushroom earth, charred woody spice, integrated chocolate mocha toast oak, black cherries, dark red cherries. Developing.
On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium+ alcohol, fine high tannins, full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of swet black tea leaves, tangy orange peel, black cherries, dark red cherries, charred woody spice, bitter coffeebean mocha toast, mushroom earth background. Long bitter coffeebean finish.
Very good quality. Modernist style. Complex. In a good place already. Not sure if the oak will ever fully integrate seamlessly.

  • Just a damn good wine. If you have it, drink it. If you don't have it, find it before there are none left. You can save this wine for a lot longer, but the enjoyment comes from partaking, not looking longingly at the bottle.

  • Quite an earthy wine in the old style. It seemed to be swallowed up by the barrel when I first PnP. By the second day, the earthiness has calmed down and the fruit started to show its stuff. The wine has a good foundation and went well with the sausage and sprouts. It definitely needs time to air before its qualities begin to shine.

  • Light in color, but deep, rich fruit. A wine to savor and contemplate.
